Feels like DLC

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:14 pm

I would have GLADLY paid $70-90 for this game knowing how good it is.

This is what Fallout 3 SHOULD have been.

YMMV.

I am approaching the 1 to 1 dollar to hour played ratio. I have 33+ hours in, once I get to 60 (I likely will see 160+) I start to come out way ahead.

So far this just feels like a big mod or a DLC release for Fallout 3. I am not saying the game is bad at all, because I really like(d) F3 but it "feels" no different from F3. I also am aware that the engine is not much different, if at all, from F3 but I definitely feel like it was not worth the $50 price tag.

Is anyone else having similar feelings?

Is anyone here really far into the game yet and does it start to feel any different from F3 later on?

Dumbest Post of the day, list all the major changes to mass effect 2? gears 2? Here is a list of changes in NV:

Crafting
Factions
Reputation system
Weapon Mods
New Perks
hardcoe mode - Awesome, adds a lot of depth, realism
Better writing, story, and quests
Ammo types

This game has more changes and content the 95% of sequels, LMAO. Easily 100 hours plus of content, and almost all the changes to the core gameplay make this game better. I smell a bioware troll.

This game is simply not worth the asking price IMO. I have one question for the devs: Why did this game take two years to make? The exact same things FO3 suffered from, NV suffers from. It is not only the bugs. The terrain looks exactly like the Capital Wasteland. Nothing new in the landscape with the exception of some vegetation here and there. The majority of the quests (I'm only 30 hours in) have been pretty lackluster compared to FO3 IMO. A couple have been pretty good.

The dialogue, something that is supposed to be Obsidian's strong point, hasn't been great thus far. I remember laughing hard at some of the conversation choices I had during FO3, but I haven't experienced that yet. Also, and I know this is nitpicking, but what happened to the take all items option from the companion menu? It is a pain to sit there and manually remove every item from my companions. I like what they tried to do with the breaking down and creating of ammo, but I haven't really had a need to use those features. Same thing with the camp site feature. Both are cool, but they feel like fluff.

Bottom line, this feels like a slightly improved version of FO3. It should have been an expansion with a price around 40-45 bucks, and should have been called FO3: New Vegas. I know nearly no one will agree with me here, but I felt like this needed to be said. I tried really hard to like this game because I loved FO3, but I knew deep down that Obsidian would choke, just like they did with KOTOR 2. Right now, I'm literally just pushing through hoping my experience gets better because I haven't found a compelling reason to keep playing.

Another suggestion/idea that probably wouldn't have been possible: They should have tried to do something similar to what BW did with the ME series i.e. importing your vault character over to NV. This would go with the expansion idea. That way you could make your expansion, keep the same character from the previous game, and create new levels to be attained along with perks and such along with a brand new open world to explore. Would have went much better IMO.

I repeat:

Companions and giving them orders.
many mini games like gambling, caravan. Adds a lot to the open world type of game.

How the hell is this not worth 60 bucks? Its got more changes to the gameplay and content then most games out there. Really, please list all the said changes to mass Effect, Gears of War? Name one sequel that totally changed the core game?

The strip itself seems a little DLC like. Pretty underwhelmed by it, but with that said, who wouldn't pay 60 bucks for a 1000+ hour expansion? Whether it feels like DLC or not, your getting what you pay for. I have no problem with the content, my beefs with the bugs, lag and loading time issues. Oh, and to the above poster, Mass Effect 2 went through a huge change. They turned it into an idiotic shooter.

I am not denying that there is entirely new storyline material, quests, and locations but it is nothing I could not accomplish with the help of 3 or 4 friends. If I would have started when F3 were first released, I promise you I could have written an expansion/mod of the same caliber and depth as Fallout: New Vegas.

Just saying.

I'll say it... Bioware is a shell of its former self, dead to me in every way. EA ruined Bio, not unlike they did Pandemic and countless others. the only difference is they made Bioware sell out, while they just folded the others.

Dont want to get into this, but I agree, Bioware have almost single handedly killed RPG's, they have been recycling the same story, cliched characters for years, their superficial choices are just that, and thet have turned every game recently in an action game with lire rpg elements. Very overrated developer. just shows there is little competition. the Witcher on PC was vastly better then any Bioware RPG of the last 5 + years.

Even DAO was linear compared to its predecessor. Bioware said they wanted to make a spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate, what we got was a linear lack luster fantasy RPG. It looks like DA 2 will be even more watered down than DAO was. Bioware is dead, they are never coming back and we have EA to thank for that.

Which is exactly what I wanted. I'm really looking forward to the next game and the new engine, but this is wanted I wanted now. More Fallout 3 and thats exactly what this is, expect with more stuff. Winner in my book.

Also it is the same exact engine. Thus the low development time.

May want to check the facts. EA only bought EA after ME 2 was almost done, as was DA. Bioware went crap years before EA bought them, and its easy to blame EA< EA has done a better job in recent years of leaving studios alone to do their thing. Also some good new IP's coming from EA. Activision is much worse then EA. Bioware was making crap games after KOTOR, ea had nothing to do with it.

EA is way worse than Activision. If you dont play COD or Guitar Hero, then you dont play Activision games. EA on the other hand has their greedy hands in everybodies cookie jar. I can guarentee that EA rushed DAOs release date and made the decisions to turn ME2 into a shooter. The whole Cerberus network crap on every Bioware game is a direct link to EA greed. EA took over Bioware after ME1, so they did have a part in all releases after that. EA bought Bioware and Pandemic in Oct. 2007. ME 1 released in Nov. of 2007, with ME2 releasing in Jan of 2010. DAo released in Nov of 2009 I beleive. Plenty of time for EA to insert their will into said games.

A map the same size as Fallout 3's with 180 quests and just about triple Fallout 3's locations? Better writing, quests have multiple endings and which ending you chose has a consequence. Twice as many weapons, who knows how much more armor, tons of NPCs, plus improvements to gameplay. Yup. DLC.

It's basically what Fallout 2 was to Fallout. You have to have heard that before.

I concur, not only does this not feel like DLC, it is leagues better than FO3 was. This is the game FO3 should have been. I feel, and I'm probably wrong, that if FO3 was this good, particularly in the writing department, all the hardcoe guys at NMA might not have hated it so much. They probably still would have hated it for not being iso and turn-based, but less than they did. Spiritually, it feels like Fallout again. And it's good to be home.

If this feels like DLC then bring on more DLC.

Personally I think NV is about as far from FO3 as you can get and still use Gamebryo.

Funny how so many people decide it feels like an expansion pack after a couple review sites said so. Yes, it uses a lot of F3 models and textures, but while the landscape has similar colors etc, it certainly feels different. it is less .. rolling and more expansive. Rolling my first char as a sniper type relly made this clear. i dont have the small hills and bumps in the landscape to hide behind anymore. The areas seem more alive and it is overall .. healthier (sky is blue some plants are green etc.)

I guess it comes down to what yo expected. did you expect something completely different? This is the same world as Fallout 3. In a different area that has been affected differently. That was my premise going in and it lived up to that.

EDIT: I guess what im saying is that it was unrealistic to expect them to redo every single model and texture when so much of what was used in f3 fit the geography and timeframe of NV. Sand looks the same a lot of places.. toasters do too. With all the issues people are having with stability, can you imagine how the game would be if they had to remodel and retexture everything too, while keeping to the deadline? ;)

EDIT2: Note that i am in no way defending the state this game was released in. I have had to download a 3rd party dll just to make it playable. This is not in anyw ay acceptable.. some minor bugs are to be expected, but the kinda bugs this game has seen is not. Hopefully though, they are starting to see some money rolling in so they can pay their coders to patch this crap ;)

I don't feel like this is anywhere near the same as FO3. This is more of a throwback to the originals and Bethesda's Morrowind and I am loving every minute of it. Where you have to actually use some brain cells to play and not just shoot our way through the game like the Terminator...... :excl: :excl: :excl:

Could somebody point me to a game with DLC that is so huge and awesome. Id like to spend a few dollars on something like that.

Calling this DLC-like is absurd.

The game can feel like "Just another Fallout:3 DLC" when you first start. That feeling should be long gone by the time you make it to Freeside. Hell, just by wandering around I have more active quests right now than all of FO3 + all five DLCs had in total. The content, once discovered, might seem overwhelming as there is just a huge number of options open to you.

This game is Oblivion with guns with a ménage à trois plot as a bonus.

A DLC? I don't know about that. The game have a different feel to it. The game has something underlaying because of the package. I only played two hours of the game (because of work and a backout) and I taking it easy. I up to a quest where a town needs law enforcement. I am playing on hard.

If this a DLC it has to be coming from Fallout 3 which it isn't.

These topics are getting quite old. People should use their brains and know the difference between a DLC and a full game.

The map area seems bigger than F3 overall.
