Feels like DLC

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:02 pm

So far this just feels like a big mod or a DLC release for Fallout 3. I am not saying the game is bad at all, because I really like(d) F3 but it "feels" no different from F3. I also am aware that the engine is not much different, if at all, from F3 but I definitely feel like it was not worth the $50 price tag.

Is anyone else having similar feelings?

Is anyone here really far into the game yet and does it start to feel any different from F3 later on?

To me, the combat feels improved, but I'm just a few hours in.

Also, the irons sights are heavenly.

While Im really loving NV, I have to agree, it feels like an Expansion pack more then a new game. But it cant be helped, its using the same Engine.

I had that feeling too, until I got to Primm and then it felt like a totally new experience.

I only played about an hour maybe less. Feeling sick so need to take a break. I can understand the DLC feeling, because of Point Look out. No city buildings like in Fallout 3. No broken sky scraqers. Well at least for me so far. I just finished helping someone find his girl friend without spoiling it for you, so you can see, I haven't played much.

I am loving all the small changes so far though.

I hate to agree that New Vegas feels, at least in some respects, like DLC. However, from what I hear and can see plainly a few hours into the game, it is far too massive in scale to even imagine as DLC. It seems apparent to me that Obsidian simply took what they knew worked well and re hashed it into new missions, weapons, and very few new gameplay features, which is fine by me. For the average RPG fan who played and enjoyed Fallout 3, this "sequel" is sort of disappointing in that it lacks some of the classic elements that make a sequel a sequel. For now, any amount of new Fallout gameplay will tie me over. Until Fallout 4 or TES 5 comes around, this is the closest we will come to a full-blown Bethesda sequel.

So you can honestly say that it is worth the full-game price tag instead of a $29.99 expansion pack price tag?

Heck, there are people(s) that make nearly full-game mods/conversion packs on moddb.com for free. I just cannot agree that this warranted a full-game price tag.

But it has much more content than the previous DLC's so even if it feels like a big DLC that's okay for me because if it will keep me busy as long as F3 did than that's perfect in my book.

A map the same size as Fallout 3's with 180 quests and just about triple Fallout 3's locations? Better writing, quests have multiple endings and which ending you chose has a consequence. Twice as many weapons, who knows how much more armor, tons of NPCs, plus improvements to gameplay. Yup. DLC.

It's basically what Fallout 2 was to Fallout. You have to have heard that before.

Yeah... No!

This feels like a whole new game to me. I am only an hour into the game and the dialouge with characters is already 100 times better than that of FO3's. And combat seems to be improved with the help of iron sights. I love this game!

It still kinda depends on skill. Crouching + lining up a shot = likely success.

I rushed a group of 6 enemies unsure whether I could take 'em or not, crouched behind cover and headshotted 'em all with iron sights. It was awesome. :celebration:

So far, Iron Sights > V.A.T.S.

And in no way, shape, or form am I dogging V.A.T.S.

Not even close in my opinion. Here is a post I made in a different part of the forums,

Well honestly I can sum it up in a sentence, a better version of Fallout 3 in a different setting. Like many people expected they fixed a lot of the little things. So a few things that really make this game great are writing, characters, world, and quests. The world just feels so much better,it make FO3 seem like there seem like its 10 people in the entire map.Its filled with plenty of different and interesting people.New Vegas its self is done extremely well, the slums actually feel like slums even for a world that has been blown to hell.Have not reached the Strip yet though. Storyline and dialogue is up to par of Obsidian's usual work. The quest are meaningful and plenty, its not all 'hey I am down on my luck please help".

I am about 6 hours in and everything meshes and blends together so well.Obsidian really 1 uped Bethesda with this game.

My only gripe so far is it was tough for me to make a good looking character.Yea I know you get shot to start the game but still I prefer not to look worse than a ghoul.

saying that its just a dlc is crazy, there is more content in this then fallout 3, now call of duty games you can call them dlc since their bascially the same game with a couple new guns, you can say that about alot of games

I am not denying that there is entirely new storyline material, quests, and locations but it is nothing I could not accomplish with the help of 3 or 4 friends. If I would have started when F3 were first released, I promise you I could have written an expansion/mod of the same caliber and depth as Fallout: New Vegas.

Just saying.

I get pretty good accuracy, but I set my character up as a shooter and maintain/repair my weapons whenever I get the chance.

I don't think of New Vegas as a "sequal" to FO3. The devs wanted NV to be seen as a game seperate from Washington DC. The way I see it is that FO3 was the proof that Fallout could be adapted to modern gaming, and New Vegas is an expansion of those mechanics and additions of newer ones.

Theres evidence that NV has as much if not more content than FO3, added mechanics, and so on simply having the same engine doesn't qualify it as DLC. I can understand that after putting in 150+ hours into FO3 a new Fallout game wouldn't feel "right". Best I can say is give it time..

WTF is up with the people thinking that new games require new game engines? Tons of games are made on the same engines.

I am not denying that there is entirely new storyline material, quests, and locations but it is nothing I could not accomplish with the help of 3 or 4 friends. Yeah, no you couldn't. In fact, I'm laughing out loud right now. Not flaming you, but that statement is absolutely ridiculous.

No doesn't feel like DLC at all for me. I've been enjoying it a lot, and with the new features really makes it feel separate from Fallout 3.
