Feels like DLC

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:00 am

These topics are getting quite old. People should use their brains and know the difference between a DLC and a full game.

in other words STOP JUDGING A BOOK BY IT'S COVER!

Use their brains? First of all, it is a matter of opinion. Secondly, I don't know about everyone else but I have invested enough time into to this game to know that I'm STILL not really sure if I want to purchase it. It is simply an average game. I never said it felt like DLC, I said it feels like an expansion.

So all of a sudden I'm a BW troll because I'm not praising the game? Give me a break. Usually if a game gets one or two negative/average reviews, they are considered exceptions. This game is averaging an 84% across 21 reviews. If this were any other game it would be considered pretty average (and it is).

Like I said, I don't expect any one here to agree with me, but I know the devs read these board so I want to post my opinion.

Modded weapons - Fluff. I dominated most enemies without them
Better writing/dialogue - Matter of opinion. I can see how some would say it is better, but for me it didn't do anything better than FO3.
Crafting - Fluff. Not really necessary to be successful in the game
New perks - Fluff
Rep and Factions - These are good

The only thing that really added on to the series was the rep and factions, which I really liked.

Also, I only posted in this thread because some mod decided to lock my thread and direct to me to this one, as if a day old topic not even in the first three pages was supposed to represent that "we are already having this discussion".

I'm sorry if you thought I was talking about people who didn't love the game or praise it to high heaven or whatever. I was talking about people who judge this game (and call it DLC) just because it is built around the same engine and uses some same skins.

DLC isn't a matter of opinion. It's content that you download to add to a existing game. So calling a stand alone game DLC is first class rubbish. You wouldn't call a bike a car... it's just not what it is.

Also I find it laughable someone calling a game a DLC/expansion of another game that has obviously less content and (according to a lot op people that played both fallout 3 and new vegas) have superior gameplay content like story and voice-overs.

If you don't like a game or find it a mediocre game I'm fine with that. Everyone has a right to express his opinion. Just don't mix up the meaning of opinion vs fact.

Well to be honest Fallout 3 was less Roleplay then NV. Fallout 3 was more paying attention to the main story. But NV has more roleplay so that when you finish the game its still worth playing because of.. gambling, more side quests, more killing, way more abilities, and RP gameplay. To tell the truth This game is worth playing. Bethesda is the 1# in Role playing games genres.

I do disagree with that notion - NV is much, much more than DLC. I worded that statement bad so, never mind. I believe this game feels more like an expansion. Just because it has a new story and new quests doesn't mean its not.

From what I've seen so far it seems like a DLC well worth the 599 kronors (60$).

A map the same size as Fallout 3's with 180 quests and just about triple Fallout 3's locations? Better writing, quests have multiple endings and which ending you chose has a consequence. Twice as many weapons, who knows how much more armor, tons of NPCs, plus improvements to gameplay. Yup. DLC.

It's basically what Fallout 2 was to Fallout. You have to have heard that before.

The SAME size as F3 ? Looks more like they took the same square map and chopped of the west end. It's definitely smaller, maybe not by much, but smaller. Triple F3 locations? Prolly about the same. Better writing and quests ? That I have to disagree with. Better gameplay ? Have you even played this game ? Bugs Bugs Bugs everywhere. It amazes me that Obsidian managed to take a patched and mature game with F3, and with Beth's experience with the gamebryo engine, and churn out what is basically a REMIX and totally F***K it up with bugs. BRILLIANT!

So if they add new gameplay elements, its fluff, if not people complain? Its fluff because a dude on a forum said so? All those elements can and do change the game a lot, saying its fluff on a forum really means squat. This game plays a LOT different, and better then Fo3. Again, listr all the changes to Me2, Gears 2? This game has more changes and content then almost all other sequels on the market, so according to you every game is DLC? LMAo, [censored] logic. All those are CORE gameplay elements. Crafting fluff? Crafting has been a major part of RPG's for years. How in the heck are new leveling perks fluff? Leveling up is a core RPG element. You can play lots of games without using all the gameplay elemments, doesnt mean its fluff, many will spend lots of time crafting and modding weapons. Again, a core gameplay change. in other words, you're a clown.

I don't think modding weapons and crafting is fluff, but I'm not using them myself. They don't add something interesting to the gameplay experience for me. Others may feel the same, others may like them. It's personal opinion.

I wouldn't call them core gameplay mechanics though. They're added mechanics that the player can use or not, as they choose.

Reputation *is* a core gameplay mechanic though, and it's a feature I very much like.

Caravan is interesting, but like some of F:NV's added features, it's an added gameplay feature that wasn't properly thought through. For example, all the cards you collect? Clutter up your inventory like hell. Should have been an added inventory category that all those cards belonged to. This is one of the few cases where I find legitimate faults with F:NV.

DAM / DPS? Annoying as hell that they fade on the Pip-Boy GUI that has more than enough room for both to be just listed. Why they aren't just listed, and why they chose to fade them, I have absolutely no idea. No good reason for this. They should just both be listed.

It's the same engine, most of the same gameplay features and mechanics, the graphics are very similar.

I'm not going to say it feels like DLC - it's much too large for that - but it doesn't feel like a brand new gaming experience.

Fallout 3 wasn't just Oblivion skinned in the world of Fallout. It was an entirely new gaming experience.

New story, new characters, new quests, new perks, etc. - many better than Fallout 3, again personal opinion - but it's still mostly more of the same. In the case of F:NV, more of the same is a good thing.

Lol why are you getting so angry over my OPINION? Those "core" game play elements are not needed to beat NV. They are not even needed to master NV (maybe in HC mode, which I have yet to try). So again, how can those be core game play elements when you can play the game great without even using those features?

They are nice little changes or upgrades depending on how you look at it, but didn't really ADD anything to the series, IMO.

To be completely honest, I have used the ammo bench TWICE - once to try it out, the other time to get some .357 ammo. I use the WB regularly and I have never used the campsite.

And again - I don't feel like NV is DLC. I feel like it should have been an expansion. It would have been more appropriately priced, and more accurately advertised IMO.

There is nothing wrong with more of the same, but if I want to play FO3, I'll play FO3.

You have avoided my question, if this is an expansion, with so many changes that MANY people enjoy, and site as why its better then the first. If this is an expansion, then Mass effect 2 is, so is gears 2, and almost any sequel the last 5 years. Again, this is an RPG, they added a tonne of content. If you wish to ignore it thats fine, You can speed run baldurs Gate in less then an hour, maybe thtas ah expansion to. your rgument is "i dont use it", well, many do, the friggin world doesnt revolve around you.

Again, what did they change for me2? gears 2? A game this large and added content, you have to be a brain dead man cow to say it should be priced as an expansion. By your definition all games are, ROFL.

Oh wait, you ignore and rush through games so its fluff? The stuff they added have been CORE aspects RPG gamers asked for and want. If you dont thats fine, but dont act like your high and mighty and if its not for you its fluff.

Still waiting for 1 sequel or spin off that drastically changed the original game.......................................... Waiting for your answer. On top of that name one as large i n content as vegas.

Are you playing the 360 version? I really don't get the outcry about bugs. I've encountered a total of 4 in 19 hours. One was a crash. If you install the game on your HDD it runs as smooth as glass. Although you'll have to clear you cache every 19 hours or so until they patch the memory leak. Also the map is bigger. It's just not square and it has a shape to it. There are at least 400 locations I'm pretty sure F3 had about 200 or so. The writing and quests ARE better. Play Fallout 3 again and tell me they aren't.

Yeah... No!

This feels like a whole new game to me. I am only an hour into the game and the dialouge with characters is already 100 times better than that of FO3's. And combat seems to be improved with the help of iron sights. I love this game!

Did you play Fallout 3?

"I'm looking for my father a middle aged man. Have you seen him?"

"Now that you mention it I do remember a stranger like that coming through here..."

Fallout New Vegas is vastly superior in writing.

You are the kind of people that ruin games. you ask for so much change in the next game and it totally ruins it. examples-halo reach, and mw2 both influenced by the community. im glad its still like this and has the original fallout 3 vibe. Just imagine of they changed it, for all u know they would have over powered guns, easy to get money, and predictable story lines.. You guys are pretty pathetic imo.. stop trying to ruin a game when you guys dont know s--t all about making a game. Also if u gunna complain how about you sell the game and go buy call of duty black ops or sumtin
Thanks.
Have A Nice Day :foodndrink:

Edit: I didnt know expansions are 100hours+ worth of gameplay :ooo:

More like an Expiation Pack if you want to get technical

DLC is just normally basic add on items or new quest taking place in few new areas that are built off the original game

Umm, your the one who must be smoking, NV makes fallout 3's dialog look like someone from kindergarten wrote it. There is a reason almost every review said the writing and dialog was better.

I think how much it adds outweights how similiar it is. Its not really an expansion, it IS a new game. The issue is the same game engine and like 40% of the assets are from Fo3. Thats all.

I see it more as Vice City was to Grand Theft Auto 3. It uses the same engine and same basic setting, but adds enough gameplay tweaks to keep things fresh.

So far this just feels like a big mod or a DLC release for Fallout 3. I am not saying the game is bad at all, because I really like(d) F3 but it "feels" no different from F3. I also am aware that the engine is not much different, if at all, from F3 but I definitely feel like it was not worth the $50 price tag.

Is anyone else having similar feelings?

Is anyone here really far into the game yet and does it start to feel any different from F3 later on?

For the first 5 hours or so I thought the same thing. Then I started to realize that they basically just took everything great about Fallout 3 and made it more like Fallout 1 and 2. They were real subtle changes that made the game marginally better. But that margin has enormous value for the setting of Fallout.

I also thought that the playable area was smaller than FO3 at first because a lot of area is blocked off by mountains. But I think it is about the same size now or slightly bigger that I have been from the very south to the very north. I absolutely love the design of all the Las Vegas Ruins and Freeside and the Strip. You can tell they did their absolute best in condensing the city into the playable area. The Red Rock Mountains to the west look very similar to the Real Red Rock Mountains in Vegas. I feel like I'm actually walking around the ruins of Vegas. The way Freeside (& North Vegas and surrounding areas) looks and plays also very much reminds me of FO 1 & 2 cities and towns.

Also there are minor gameplay improvements in combat out of VATS and more varied opponents to fight.

So I don't agree with you anymore. There is so much content in this game and the setting is amazing.
