Football Thread - World Cup Special

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:15 pm

SA just don't look like a team who can excersise any measure of control over a game whatsoever. It looks like they prefer to concede possession for the majority of the game and then just turn on 30 seconds of brilliant play every 15-20 minutes. They'll get slaughtered by better teams than Mexico though, sorry hosts :(. Still hoping they can pick up a 2-1 result here but they look shagged now and they took Pienaar off?!?!

On the plus side Manures new signing doesn't look anything special here, nor was he against England. Long may it continue!

On a side note, what's ITV's new obession with showing a slow mo replay of a random facial expression every so often?

Arrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh. Post :( More manly noises were made.

^ The best one was the manager (I can't remember which) in the first half who was making the elbowing gesture and shouting at the same time :P Classy.

Ah, 1-1. Great goal and SA played well. Mexico were probably the best team. Fair result I think.

And none of us guessed right!

Yup, great start!

Roll on France vs Uruguay.

I won't be around for that game though, off out to watch it. I expect an unreasonable amount of random match commentary while I'm gone though, don't let me down :P.

Meh. I hate draws! Draws are nasty. Draws saw Scotland go out the World Cup unbeaten way back when. Bad draws, bad! There's a reason nobody predicted one!

Anyway, I'm off in search of a good Kronenbourg deal (and something for tea!).

Ah, well, they tied. I wanted Mexico to lose so that I could make fun of my stepfather.

Ah, the games kicked off but I can't watch yet. Promised my Dad I'd watch it with him and he's not back from cricket training yet so I've had to put it on live pause.

I might be able to skip half time and get up to speed if he's quick.

Yay I only missed one minute from the match. ^_^

I can see France grabbing one before half time.

Fighters, you might just want to start from the second half. Dull game so far.

France are looking a bit crap again, just like they did at Euro 2008. I can't see them getting far if they don't sort themselves out soon.

Right I'm up to date. I missed the entire second half of the first half and the first 10mins of the first half. Anything good happen?

Govou missed a sitter, Forlon had a good shot saved and Gropkuff had a decent FK saved and that was all I saw. It seemed to be an okay game then but the 8 mins of the second half I've seen are pretty crap.

Edit: Good effort by Forlan. And Henry is on. Better game hopefully.

Edit 2: Nope, that svcked pretty hard.

Haha, you stayed asleep. You didn't miss anything though. Except for the red card, guy was only on for about 20mins.

Bad game. I actually stopped watching midway through the second half and started playing FIFA with my flatmate.

I saw part of both games in school today because it was our last day. The South Africa-Mexico match was really fun to watch, lots of opportunities. But also some silly mistakes. Inexperience I guess.

The France-Uruguay game :meh: I was hoping Uruguay would win

Missed both games today, but theres no way I'm not watching England tommorow. I cant wait.

I listened to an interview, some reporter talking to some American's in a bar in New York -- half of them didnt know what posisitions half the England players played in, kept jibbering on about how compared to England they have a world class team. I personally think the England line up this year is great, and Fabio Capello isnt the kind of Manager to mince about with dodgy tactics, its win all or nothing for that guy. Semi-Finals at LEAST this year.

Portugals my black horse for this tournement though.

I think Queiroz will get rid of that nasty horse problem you have.

...and yeh, if you look at the England and USA in each position on the pitch, we have far better players in each and every position. They could still win though, stranger things have happened .

I'm looking forward to it as well though, just hope we don't feel the pressure too much.

Greece v South Korea, Argentina v Nigeria and England v USA today. Can't say much about the first 2 but I'm definitely up for the last one.

Greece v South Korea starts in just over 90 minutes and although I can't say I'm looking forward to it massively, I'm sure there's one forumer who can can't wait for it :P

Gonna be watching England tonight. My Dad bought a new HD TV just for the World Cup, but it does have fantastic picture quality.
