That's true, and I am aware of some of the changes being made but I'm good enough to discuss the update without revealing what those changes are.

No but it would be a a lot to handle for the entire PR/Marketing side of things. Bethesda would also be competing with itself for attention and that's not a desireable situation to be in.

Nope.

Bethesda did have a big forum update about a month before the Oblivion announcement, and it was partly done because the forums were having problems that would only get worse with the influx of people interested in Oblivion and we're not having any such problems.

In the past the forum software needed to be updated more frequently and it was more difficult to do so downtime wasn't uncommon - and obviously didn't come with a game announcement following up afterwards. While this is a big update that's all it is, an update.
