Forum downtime

It's not TES V, or any other new game announcement for that matter.

Like you would actually tell us the truth if it was. C'mon. :)

It's definitely TESV. I'm convinced, what else could they possibly be doing that would even require a downtime?

Think about it......

the forum managament here would be going haywire trying to deal with all of the activity.

Since when did Bethesda management care about vanned slave-mods? :P

I mean, putting your new coffee maker out of reach? How cruel.

Anyways it wouldn't make sense for them to announce a new TES game when they only just unveiled New Vegas. Bethesda would be stepping on its own toes and the forum managament here would be going haywire trying to deal with all of the activity.

Are you saying that the sole criteria for the date of new game announcements is the well-being of the forum management?

[In the Supah-Sekkrit Mods forums, Gstaff has just made a new thread...]
Gstaff - Guys, we've just about ready to announce TESV. Are you all okay with that? I mean, we don't want you to be stressed over this.
Summer - No, I'm not feeling too well at the moment. Got a bit of cold coming on.
Gstaff - Ah right. Well, we'll cancel it for now, never mind the fact that we've pushed the date back several times.

Exactly! We'd never expect it!

Why would they shut the forums down for a day just to announce a new game?

They never have before(that I'm aware of)..

To put the new forum in, of course!

I hope it isn't something stupid like a few more emoticons, or a small update to the interface.

I just want TESV.....PLEASE! :cold:

The forums are going to be down for a little bit -- probably a day or so while we make some changes.

Ah, this must be the braille skin update I've read about. Looking forward to it.

They're updating the forum software and a big update requires downtime to make sure it goes smoothly.

Like you would actually tell us the truth if it was. C'mon. :)

That's true, and I am aware of some of the changes being made but I'm good enough to discuss the update without revealing what those changes are. :)

Are you saying that the sole criteria for the date of new game announcements is the well-being of the forum management?

No but it would be a a lot to handle for the entire PR/Marketing side of things. Bethesda would also be competing with itself for attention and that's not a desireable situation to be in.

Hudson: That's it man, game over man, game over! What the [censored] are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Burke: Maybe we could build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh? Why don't we try that?

Nope.

Bethesda did have a big forum update about a month before the Oblivion announcement, and it was partly done because the forums were having problems that would only get worse with the influx of people interested in Oblivion and we're not having any such problems.

In the past the forum software needed to be updated more frequently and it was more difficult to do so downtime wasn't uncommon - and obviously didn't come with a game announcement following up afterwards. :) While this is a big update that's all it is, an update.

 Just kidding, I really didn't think an announcement would be coming anyways. Always fun to hope, though...... :cold:

Nope - it was suggested but the mods rejected them as it would reduce the number of warnings we could hand out.
