Forum Update Feedback & Discussion

Post » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:03 am

Lot of lag today.

Okay, here's a serious issue. I can no longer find just my posts or just my topics. I really care about finding my topics, because I have a hard time keeping track of them (especially when I go to update some of my older mods and want to update the Release thread, too). The "find my content" button gives topics and posts, which is unhelpful. PLEASE bring back the "find my topics" function!

EDIT: Oh my gawd, what is with the lag today? Soooooo sloooooooow (I'm on Firefox). And the forums keep logging me out - happened twice today, and that has never happened to me before (unless I'm inactive for 10 minutes).

I just tested the new layout on my Droid, it is SO much better then it used to be, a definite improvement over what it was. Though on the PC side of things it seems quite a bit slower then it was before. Today is really my first real day going through the forums. I am not entirely sure if the slowness is due to the new layout or just because Skyrim was announced and so many people are hitting the boards.

Forums are running really slow but I'm just guessing that is because TESV was announced. I'm guessing they're going to increase the flood control. :o

Yeah, it's slow and I believe the teaser trailer is hosted on the same servers so that is going to effect it as well. The same thing happened with the release of Fallout 3.

One thing I have been a bit frustrated with is the inability to quote from locked threads. Granted, it was suggestion tread 165 to 188 or something like that, but wonder if it was a necessary cut.

I picked up a request for this earlier and passed it on. I think with the new game release it may be a few days before much else gets sorted with the forums. :)

I've quoted from locked threads since day one here, but its (currently) got to be done manually.

Here is an example:

Pulled from our http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/games/fnv-faq.html.

What is the release date?
Fallout: New Vegas is scheduled for a Fall 2010 release on the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3, and Games for Windows in North America and Europe.

Who is developing the game?
In conjunction with Bethesda Softworks, Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the creator of award winning RPGs such as Neverwinter Nights 2. Obsidian is also led by the founders of Black Isle Studios - the developers of the original Fallout and Fallout 2.

Where does Fallout: New Vegas take place?
In and around New Vegas in Nevada.

You have to fill in the Quote variables by hand, and add the Post Id# [IE. quote name='Gstaff' date='14 April 2010 - 08:26 PM' post='15850121' ] ****Incidentally the variable names are case sensitive.
Then copy/paste the contents of the post in between the Quote tags.

It'd be nice if they decided to allow quoting locked threads (if it is a disabled feature) or if they find a way to automate it.

I know if I click my name in the top left and check 'my content' I am taken to my posts, ones Ive started or posted in.

problem is theyre about a day out of date.

Im not getting ones I made recently even though the prefference says 'search topics made or posted in'

am I missing something here?

I've noticed this a few times as well, although it appears to be rare.

Stupid question undoubtedly but how do you see a list of members' posts, other than the posts visible under the 'posts' tab on their profile?

Use the Find My Content link on their profile, then choose the appropriate option in the drop-down list on the right.

Thanks. :) Yes, it was as obvious as I feared it would be.

The img tags seem to be faulty.
In http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1148203-concerns-about-the-pc-version/page__view__findpost__p__16829718 in the Skyrim thread http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1148203-concerns-about-the-pc-version/, I tried to give a new poster on the forums a Fishy Stick.
As you can see, what showed up in the post was a URL link to the Fishy Stick image on UESP, surrounded by the img tags.

Yeah, images are disabled. That's intentional.

Curious search, unless I miss something. I have the habit to search for my name so I can spot answers quickly and deal with them : and these days, it will turn up three kinds of answers. Sometimes a single post, sometimes simply titles of threads I was answered in - and one kind of result gives me a low number, simply Skyrim section, when the other kind gives me forums-wide results.

Not that it bothers me much, but for three exact same searches with the same parameters, that's sort of weird.

Thanks Falchya. :)
I didn't know it was forum policy. I mistakenly thought it was a forum bug.

edit: fix typo

IIRC it was after someone posted some rather explicit gay porm here that they where disabled. That was what I was told anyway.

Still having trouble with "moving pages." I pick a thread, try to go to page [whatever], and the moment my mouse pointer hovers over the button something selects, or resizes, and the page shifts- resulting in the buttons in question moving. In the last 15 minutes I've had 3 encounters where I took 5+ tries to go a certain page of a thread as the buttons (apparently) maliciously moved to guarantee I was unable to use them. (Only ever got where I wanted to go with one of those tries...the other two finally got the "ahhh, [censored] it!" treatment.)

There is also an SQL Error coming up within the Member Group, "Moderators", when attempting PM any of them, since you apparently must go through a path to the PM page by going into the Moderators' personal Profiles.

(I thought that I would try to call this to their attention.)
