Apparently the forums are back up, for the most part at least. It seems the avatars aren't working (at least not for me) and there are some odd graphical issues going on.

So what do you think of this update?

There is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1146917 about forum modding now, where you can find some stylesheet tricks and even a Chrome extension (by yours truly B) ) to modify the new forum look to your liking.

http://www.gamesas.com/avatar.php?member_name=

My Chrome extension is available http://www.exorince.xtreemhost.com/chrome/ExosBSFTweaks.crx (Right Click -> Save Link As)

It now has autoupdate so this is the last version you have to download manually. :) So if you downloaded it yesterday: please re-download it using the link above.

Thanks to DarN for the original stylesheet.

I wish I could have chosen none of the above for the skins, all of them are pretty svck now. Only the Bethesda one is bearable...

I just came on for the 1st time since the change and instantly noted two things: 1) my eyes, which had begun to adjust to the previous update's eye-throbbing design, began anew in their pain as I tried to suddenly read geriatric topic titles while search for a fanfic. Oww... I know small print is bad, but making it this big is just as bad, as it blurs like all hell when you scroll.

2) For the love of all things fluffy, why do updates actually WORSEN the performance of the program? I'm lagging twice as badly as I had in previous update.

Why oh why must everyone mimic facebook? Why must we constantly update and tweak and alter and fix what ain't broken to begin with? The previous update's skin was similar to this true, but the minor details of this change are annoying to my eyes already... Makes me long even more for the past skins.

Was this absolutely necessary?

EDIT: To clarify, I have no performance issues in-thread; in fact it runs faster and better. It's in the topics sections that I have lagging like mad, and the indexes

I see the user field has been changed in posts. One last PNG to load.

I would like to see a bit more contrast in quoted text and hyper-link...

Nice emoticon updates to.

Thanks for working on the forums again - I like the new features - especially being able able to expand the main forum sections and the first post preview is pretty neat - I often would want to read the first post and would have multiple tabs all over the place of different thread pages

Have gotten used to the white on black though I find something's have shrunk in size making it a little harder to read - also I'm not sure what resolution the person/s who designed this are using but text doesn't seem as crisp as it used to

I'm surfing with Chrome and have no problems in speed with accessing anything - it's cool being able to upload your avi to the site as well - is this a step towards uploading images? Bout time Bethesda had a file sharing site of it's own for mods and screenshots :)

Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the new features - it has made browsing easier for me.

Oh, let me slit my wrists!!

So, I go to add to my Ignored Users lists. As is not uncommon, it's someone with one of those names that looks like something a goldspammer in an MMO would use- very long, looking like a load of random characters. Just the sort of thing the popup list is for, right? So I type in about the first 5 characters, and their name pops up- and when I click the entry to fill in the rest of the name in the text box, it acts like it's unclickable.

Using IP.Board, slightly customized with http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1146917-modding-the-forum/page__view__findpost__p__16764419(replaces a good amount of the white with gradients of the blues and greens used to create a more unified theme that also helps reduce eye-strain)

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing more official skins for the forum. It'd be pretty dead-simple for them to churn out a bunch of official ones that are just IP.Board respun with different colors.

I am already getting used to the new looks and features, just wish that they bring back the tan version instead of black.

I like the new look, especially the profile pages. However, the performance is still terrible, so I voted for that only. Otherwise, I've grown quite accustomed to the white and black.

Is IP.Board actually an "official" skin, or just a bit of rogue code that managed to slip by unnoticed?

Well more skins would be nice. The default skin is awful, and IP.Board isn't that much better, but doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out.

Ooh, a new poll. I voted for the default Bethesda forum without any modified style sheets. I much prefer it to any other forum i've seen here before.
Although I will admit, perhaps a bit more choice of skins would be nice, but I don't think it's needed.

It's official. I got one "bug" officially fixed for it -- Originally it had the IPB logo, but now it has gamesas's logo.

Performance is terrible. Starting around 5 days before this latest update it could take minutes to load any page on these boards on a 9mb/s connection with no issues for any other website. I have never in the past had scrolling issues however it is now considerably more clunky. My favourite theme is the default dark black/brown with white text that it was when I first came here in '09

Well after using this for the last day or so I can say that I don't mind it now. It was just a matter of getting used to. I haven't had any issues so far. I love the new emoticons. :P

Agreed. All the fonts have shrunken and look strange. They also have this shadow-effect/black border (1px in width) around all the letters, regardless of font color (except for text in posts). Makes my eyes sore.

----------
I really wish BGSF would go back to the look and feel of the forums as they were in 2009. Easy to read, easy to navigate and find everything, no hassle, plenty of themes. The first update this year produce eye-watering results, and this new update hasn't really fixed that at all. You know, it is possible to be artistic without compromising functionality. Sure, some of the new functionality is nice.... whatever they are...

Just out curiosity, I really used to enjoy how the advanced search results would cache my results. It really helped notify me when someone replied to one of my posts without being pm'ed/emailed.

Anyways, the function doesn't seem to be there anymore

I'm not getting accurate content listings (my posts), when I click the "My Content" page ~It list only three posts from today (one was at 3AM, one was 11AM, and one was 10PM) ~is this by design?

Also the 'Indent' option causes an array error with otherwise valid quotes; (they work before, but when enclosed in indent tags ~typed by hand or via the button), the quote tags print as plain text.

In which case, why hasn't the IP.Board skin asploded from having CD links on the index page?

Yeah, I'm gonna keep pushing this point. Because the rationale behind the default skin not having links is loopy.

I really like Max's green skin (With a few modifications). They have the design already (from the old forums) so I really can't see it being that difficult.

I like how posts by ignored members are displayed now. Before the update the red text really made them stand out on the page, and made me tempted to view the posts, but now thanks to the small gray text I can actually read a page and barely notice the ignored posts. It makes navigating the New Vegas forum much more pleasant.

The one thing that irks me about it is the main portal not compressing the boards the next time when I get back on. I don't like scrolling and scrolling just to use my Greasemonkey CD link at the bottom.

Is there any way to show the list of topics you've posted? There's the topics tab on your profile but that only shows the last few, and the separate show posts and show topics option has been replaced with show content, which shows a list of all threads you've posted in. I want to find an old thread of mine back and now I'm not seeing an easy way to do that.

Two options:

1. At the bottom of every forum there is filter options. Change "Show Type" to "Topics I started" then click the "Go" button. That will show all topics you started on that forum

2. In "My Content" Click the drop-down menu on the top-right and change it to "View all topics has started" and click update
