My friend just gave me World of Warcraft. Is it any good?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:57 pm

Fun if you have friends who play it as well. I do, and so I've played for almost 3 or maybe even 4 years now...

Oh, I assumed there was no level cap, considering all of the addicted players out there.

I guess it takes a while to get to, obviously.
You can actually get to 80 in a matter of days if you level up effectively and do nothing else. There is also special gear you can buy that binds to your account, that gives a 10% experience bonus, which is good for levelling up Alts.

I'm leveling my Dwarf Paladin as I write this :)

It's a great game, if you are anti-social you can always just roll a hunter and solo easily through the entire game

Personally, I really liked it for the 4 years I played it. Sometimes I actually miss the good times I had, it was a great time killer. Alot things changed though, and 60 and 80 is pretty different. I think you should give it a try, if you dont like it, then fine, nothing stops you from putting it on the shelf. (unless you get addicted, but if you reach that level of addiction that easily, then you wont be able to have a drink with your friends without turning into a alcoholic either)

The only MMO I really played for any length of time is FFxi (based on what you said before I definitely recommend you pass on it, FFxi isn't very solo friendly) and WoW never even made it on my radar. However I've known people who played it and most say the same things about it. You'll get xp for everything you ever do (with the possible exception of making a new friend IG) and you don't lose xp if you die. The community is generally immature and interactions revolve around PvP. It has a horrendous problem with RMT (real money traders, I don't know what they're called in WoW). You must have 1337 as a second language, and the character names can cause tears of blood.

You need some better friends then. Addicting is the best kind.

PvP keeps me away from this game(and if theres an alternative, I'm still not playing it) but from what I've heard of it.. it's best to go with WoW.

The day any friend of mine hands me a WoW disc will also be the day I go to jail for assault.

It took me a good 48 hours to download all of the patches the first time I played it, and I then got a good use out of the month trial. Even though I enjoyed it, I agree with what most other people have said, which is that if you play it alone sooner or later it will get boring (unless you just don't get bored playing by yourself). Definitely give it a go though. :)

Depends. I played it, didn't like it, mainly because I'd just gotten out of FFXI and the differences in both community and gameplay were staggering.
It's a very popular game, though, so you'll probably enjoy something it has to offer. Try not to get addicted, though. It's fun in moderation, but if you obsess over it then Solo-ing ends up being pretty rough.

If you can't tell, the game has a love/hate relationship mostly. When it comes to MMO's, WoW pretty much does everything an MMO should, and does it well. Some people find things to gripe about, others hate on it for being an MMO, but mainly play the game and stay away from the WoW forums (go to Wowhead.com if you need any help with finding quest, mobs, items, ect. They also have a forums that's much more forgiving than the official WoW one, if you want to ask questions). If you liked LORTO and the like, you should love WoW. You should get two months for the price of one when you first subscribe, but there's also a free 7 day trial (with some features removed, but still the basic game). You should be able to get a feel for the game in 7 days-2 months, but realize this time will mostly be spent leveling. The game doesn't really "start" til around the level cap. If you find the game a little lacking, know that once you reach the cap, the game turns into something else completely.

Too bad there's no secure form of age identification on the internet.

Enter XXX Pron Site
Are you over the age of 18?
(yes)
(no)

Much easier to figure out in a MMO guild than you would think. ;) If for some odd reason a person would want to be in the guild that is below the minimum age they usually give themselves away rather quickly. And why would a "youngin" want to be hanging around with us old farts anyway?

The game may as well deal and inject heroine to its users.

Not this again.

Once again, I will say that I play it, and once again, that I am not addicted to it.

And yes, I have time to raid. Yes, I can accomplish a lot with my character.

I play it for 7 hours a week max.

Max Level is 80, friend.

The game has alot of rude, arrogant, jerks, but...

If you do play, I am a max level druid on Bleeding Hollow, Send me an ingame mail, and I will send you 100 gold (100g=alot of money, for a level 1, your basically richer than your wildest dreams can even begin to imagine)

Aye, 100g should last him long enough for him to level his professions and start making money on his own.

Wow, than WoW definitely better than FFxi in that regard (where 100g is good only boat fare). In FFxi gil doesn't go as far as it should and making money is hard as hell.

Hello :)

A friend of mine just gave me his copy of WoW, he said he never got to play it because of the monthly fee. Now, I've played MMORPG's before, like Lord of the Rings Online and Guild Wars, and they were good games but not really intended for alot of solo play, which is what I like. I don't mind playing with others so long as it isn't jerks or perverts, but I have to be able to do things on my own.

So what do you all think?

It's very limited in solo play. i would not recommend it for you. It's getting kind of better, but solo play is mostly just grinding to show off to other players.

Screw WoW. Check out Age of Conan. Or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (best MMO ever outside of UO)

On the one hand, I don't find WoW has much to offer for solo play. On the other hand, it's probably best to get a one-month subscription and decide for yourself.
