My friend just gave me World of Warcraft. Is it any good?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:59 pm

Hello :)

A friend of mine just gave me his copy of WoW, he said he never got to play it because of the monthly fee. Now, I've played MMORPG's before, like Lord of the Rings Online and Guild Wars, and they were good games but not really intended for alot of solo play, which is what I like. I don't mind playing with others so long as it isn't jerks or perverts, but I have to be able to do things on my own.

So what do you all think?

Its okay if you're playing with friends. Questing online together can be quite fun. But otherwise very boring.

I never really played WoW for long but from what I have seen its heavily based on group activities. You should give the trial version a go first and see how you like it.

Some friend

Friends don't give friends addicting substances, whether that be WoW or chocolate.

That being said, I don't know how good/bad it is, but if you like solo play more than multiplayer, than you probably wont like WoW, which is all multiplayer all the time.

I never played much WoW, but from what I've seen there's quite a bit you can do by yourself in the game. Things like raids require people, but I see my bro soloing the vast majority of the time he's on, be it leveling or doing various quests. Of course, he's level 80, but I'm sure there's a pretty steady stream of content you can do by yourself for any level.

this
and don't expect it to stay the same for long. It's constantly changing.
It's a very terrible, yet extremely addictive game.

You'll either become hopelessly addicted to it or hate it. If you experience the former, expect to have conversations like this with your friends:

Friend: "Dude, wanna come play some football with us?"
You: "Ah... no, I'm uh... going to my... grandparents uh... house... today..."
Friend: "Didn't your grandparents die last year?"
You: "Um... my other... grandparents..."
Friend: "Didn't they die like... before you were born?"
You: "I meant that uh... my... dog died..."
Friend: "You don't have one..."
You: "I have a... appointment with... a... dentist..."
Friend: "Isn't the dentists office closed on weekends?"
You: "...Forget your mortal doings! The world of Azeroth awaits me!"

The game may as well deal and inject heroine to its users.

With nine million users its obviously a popular game. I've never played it, but if you can get used to the on-line enviroment it can become very addictive. I have many friends who play it constantly, and have for years.

Ignore the twits bashing it (I wager few if any of them have even played it, and just parrot off 'WoW is boring/bad/etc' because it's a popular sentiment :P). It's quite fun when you find some good people to play it with. :)

One of my characters is a level 72 Paladin that I can count of one hand the times I've grouped with. You can level to your hearts content solo if you like. You won't have the best gear, but you can definitely quest and enjoy yourself. In many ways WoW is a better single player RPG than a lot of true single player RPGs. The community can be immature at times, but if you find a mature guild (mine has an age 25 minimum) it can be a lot of fun chatting with them as you quest. Its a pretty fun game all in all and quite like LotRO in basic gameplay mechanics (just more solo friendly).

I don't like the art style.

I'm kinda a graphics [censored] lol. I know most serious gamers think graphics are unimportant but I simply prefer games that I can really immerse myself into, almost like they are visual books of sorts. Also I don't mean just what it looks like, but how it feels visually.

I loved the Zelda games because of their subtle art style, and I love the Elder Scrolls for their lush landscapes and fun details.

Don't really care for WOW, but try it as long as you know you won't become addicted :)

I've always wondered, is there a level cap in WoW? Or are there Level 300 Super-Saiyans running around?

Too bad there's no secure form of age identification on the internet.

Are you over the age of 18?

Cassandra lol. Guild Wars and LOTRO are the epitome of solo play in an MMO setting. You can solo to the cap all the way in LOTRO, you don't have to group at all. In GW you can group with NPCs only and keep it at that. I'm sure the same thing is going on in WoW, solo to level cap..but to get the best of the best armor you have to group.

Oh, I assumed there was no level cap, considering all of the addicted players out there.

I guess it takes a while to get to, obviously.

I've gotten countless fun hours out of WoW and even met a wonderful girl on it. :)

I actually spend most of my time running other guildies through lower level dungeons than I do doing endgame stuff. There are a slew of jerks and perverts but once you find a good friendly guild (coughminecough) your WoW experience just gets a whole lot better.

Not really. Getting to 80 is faster than getting to 40 in Warhammer Online.

The addicting part is the repeat farming of bosses and pwning newbies with your superior gears.
