My friend just gave me World of Warcraft. Is it any good?

Ah, okay. Sorry, I wasn't aware you were joking. Sorry, jokes and Sarcasm don't translate well for me. :)

If you like MMO's you'll like WoW. If you don't like MMOs style, and prefer diverse interesting gameplay, you probably won't enjoy WoW.

I played a little and it was okay. I prefer City of Villains by a vast margin.

i played it for about 3 yrs then gave it up for oblivion :biglaugh: once you get to lvl 80 it gets boring (if you ask me)

Not really, there's raiding, pvp, heroic instances and laods of other content for high level players. I'm very happy with the Argent Tournament. But it all boils down to personal opinion.

All i can really say is, I think WoW is a lot of fun as long as you have cool people to play with, and luckily most of my real life friends play it, and I've even met one of them through wow :P So I'd recommend it, it's the most solid MMO out there at the moment, and trust me, I've tried a lot of MMO's.

Though I haven't tried Champions online yet...

I can't bring myself to play WoW for more than an hour. Maybe it's because I hate games that require you to socially interact with other people. I'll take single-player RPGs over WoW any day.

WoW corners too much of the market. It's not that bad of a game, but it isn't amazing either. Vanguard is a far superior game.

I wish Age of Conan had lived up to the hype, it would have been a great game.

Hahahaha, I laughed in real life at that one. God. Good one.
Anyway, yeah, WoW is a very fun game. I've played it for a few years off and on, it's not as addicting and life consuming as everyone says, it's really not.
I have raided in many types of environments, casual, semi-hardcoe and hardcoe, and never have I been consumed by the game. That is unless you spend 3 hours 4 nights a week consumed because it's summer and you have nothing else to do. It's really not that big of a time sink. Maybe if your guild is bad and can't clear content sure you'll be in there for longer but..the last hardcoe guild I was in that cleared Ulduar hard modes weekly cleared the entire place in 3 nights 3 hours each. Not that bad TBH.

You'll either become hopelessly addicted to it or hate it. If you experience the former, expect to have conversations like this with your friends:

Friend: "Dude, wanna come play some football with us?"
You: "Ah... no, I'm uh... going to my... grandparents uh... house... today..."
Friend: "Didn't your grandparents die last year?"
You: "Um... my other... grandparents..."
Friend: "Didn't they die like... before you were born?"
You: "I meant that uh... my... dog died..."
Friend: "You don't have one..."
You: "I have a... appointment with... a... dentist..."
Friend: "Isn't the dentists office closed on weekends?"
You: "...Forget your mortal doings! The world of Azeroth awaits me!"
*hangs up phone

Damn, that's a scary reality :P

I'm posting here because my WoW realm server is down.

I finally got the game late April but d/lled it and did the 10-day free trial first; the d/l took a long time (don't know if it's simple to install with disc and then do the trial- might be a good idea- NB: you can't get past level 20 or trade with other players in the trial). I suggest doing the trial period and when you hit level 20 pay for more time if you like it.

If you find a good mature casual guild you get good support and can solo/raid as you like. But you can meet some really neat people forming ad hoc groups in the field (PuGs). I'm really glad I chose to be an Orc shaman first because you can solo well and I didn't find a good guild for about two months. Start alternate characters if you don't like your first.
I find warriors boring and druids hard to get into. Priests are in demand but you die easily questing alone.

Rogues and hunters are fun. Learn to ignore the numbskulls you run into. Pursue your two professions steadily and they'll pay off well.

One bad thing I find is that I stopped playing SP games like Morrowind and other offline RPGs, which is a real tragedy. Working on correcting that; having two characters at most may help. Server crashes are a GodsendLOL.

Uhh, 3 hours 4 nights a week? If it's summer you think people would play that little?

quoted deleted post removed

Considering you can end up with a warning and posting ability suspension for spam when an old thread is bumped for a pointless post that contributes nothing to the discussion, are you sure you want to admit that?

Think about it, m'kay?

Hello :)

A friend of mine just gave me his copy of WoW, he said he never got to play it because of the monthly fee. Now, I've played MMORPG's before, like Lord of the Rings Online and Guild Wars, and they were good games but not really intended for alot of solo play, which is what I like. I don't mind playing with others so long as it isn't jerks or perverts, but I have to be able to do things on my own.

So what do you all think?

WoW can be solo'ed. There are a few group quests obviously, however, it's not like you have to do them.

You should give the trial version a go first and see how you like it.

This. If you don't like it there's not really a reason for you to buy a month membership, since trial is for free...
