Game Features You Never Use

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 3:46 am

Even better when you buy a bunch of stims and purified water from her and then take it all back in Caravan. That's due to the "triple your bet" bug that has yet to be fixed, though.

Also, No-Bark has 800 caps to spare every few days.

Caravan is a great way to augment your income at any stage of the game.

Exactly! Buy a ton of stuff, then win your money back playing Caravan. LOL!

What's this "triple your bet" bug you speak of??

I just pay to have them repaired or grab a new gun.
Oh, and I rarely wear any armor. I don't even wear cloths half the time.

Rrrrrrealllly? :)

In a normal 1:1 gambling game, you can only win back the amount you put in. For example, if you put in 500 and win, you will get back 1000, which includes your initial 500 bet.

From what I understand, the way Caravan is working at the moment, your initial bet is not taken from you at the start, and if you win, you will get the 1000, despite never having actually put in the initial 500. Make sense? I don't think this is intended.

I don't craft much. It's a really nice system, but ammo and caps are so abundant it's not really needed.

-Never played caravan.
-Never used the Mojave Express boxes, though they look like they would be useful if there were more of them around. Used a mod in FO3 called Atomic Postal Service that allowed me to put stuff into any mailbox in the game and mail it to my house. That was useful.
-Never use campfire recipes or survival skill.
-Never sided with the Legion, and have absolutely no desire to. Those silly looking uniforms compel me to shoot them on sight.
-Never gave in to the strong impulse to treat the Kings the same way.
-Never pursued the main quest past getting my Lucky 38 suite because altering the balance of power ends the game, and is thus an undesirable outcome.
-Never traveled much with Boone cause I don't like him.
-Never hired Gannon because he strikes me as a jerk.
-Never got Rex cause I didn't like Dogmeat in FO3.

I found them useful when I took extended trips away from my hotel room in Novac. Even with companions I found myself overburdened and it helped to be able to dump items into the Express box for Novac. It also helped with game immersion which is something that is easily broken with constant fast travel.

Me, I've never played caravan. Just don't care.

I've never used the Mojave Express drop boxes. Never felt a need.

I've never killed Tabitha. She (He? Whatever...) entertains me.

I've never snuck into the gunrunners. I LIKE Gunrunners.

What about you?

same here! I've never played a single game of Caravan. Never used drop boxes either.

After my 2nd play through and level 30 maxed out, i finally snuck into gunrunners like 2 days ago LOL.

Now that we've had time with the game, let's hear about the stuff you never do. It can be game features, quests, places... Are they just not interesting to you or do you think they are unnecessary?

Everything you said except Tabitha who I did kill........because I could. :P

I don't bother crafting things in fireplaces. Don't use energy weapons. I roll with companions minimally. Don't craft ammo.

lmfao, STOP PLAYING ON EASY/NORMAL and youll find a use for armour and helmets people.
perception is the most useless thing in the game..i dont want my radar telling me theres an enemy around the corner or 3kilometers down the road.if i dont see him with my own two eyes then im getting lazy.would be more fun if even with 1 perception enemies could sneakup or try to flank you but thats pretty rare
ED-E = useless
Barter skill = useless
speech is prettymuch useless
VATS = lame beyond belief
Kill cam slow mo was good the first two times i saw it but got annoying after that
Sneak over 50
Luck is always set to 1 just like perception
Prettymuch anything that makes the game easy is on my not-to-do list
Companions tactics are also pretty useless in the few times ive had one with me,they all seem to do prettymuch the same in combat unless you force them to use an array of guns some of the time they will actually use the gun thats appropriate for the encounter but they dont switch to mellee when its needed
And did anyone else notice that theres alot more useless perks in this yet your only able to have half asmany not counting the unlockables ofcourse

I didn't get caravan, so that one got tossed early.

No benny. Ever.

No poon. Hate the censorship.

No radios after hearing Wayne Newton put me to sleep. Needed a much better "news" and music system in this game. Loved Tab and Rhonda until they started looping, and so they got deep sixed.

No drop boxes.

No survival even once.

Don't go into houses unless quest drags me there.

Don't steal unless I need to lower kharma or start a fight.

Don't do cannibalism, even on evil, although I should.

Sounds like you've decided that ignoring half of the game is the best way to go.

I'd have fun playing this way, to be sure, but I don't agree with your blanket assessments. In particular, I'd say that speech is now one of the most useful skills in the game. That all depends on how you want to play, though.

Right. I was gonna say, I've built a character this playthrough with a really high speech, as well as both the man and woman charmer perks, or whatever they are that offer additional conversation options.

I've found it to be quite useful so far in this play through...

I hardly ever change my ammo..
I really should..
The worst part is that I play on hardcoe and I always carry it around with me like I'm going to spontaneously decide to start using it one day.
That's gotta be 100 lbs of unnecessary weight right there,

LMAO, the little Yogi Bera voice in my head saying 'better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it' as I check another random desk, box etc to supplement the 300+ rounds of whatever ammo I'm carrying at the time.

Damn this is a good list, I'm in the same boat on all of the above. :)

I would add:

I rarely ever craft things, and only recently started Trying to get points into Survival and gathering components - but its way to inconvenient.

Never use the big guns (RL, Minigun, Gatling). Skills for it are too generic, weight is too high, ammo is heavy and the regular guns are just so interesting this time around.

Never gambled at any of the casinos - hate gambling in real life, it translated into the game. Nice looking places, no interest whatsoever.

Miax

I craft weapon repair kits, and that's it. Never thought I'd be excited to see wrenches in debris piles. Huh.

With you on the big guns.

I played 1 slot machine and about 3 hands of blackjack at the Atomic Wrangler. I despise gambling (you might as well throw your money on the road -- it's a swindle, Johnny!) and Las Vegas is probably my least favorite city in the USA. I guess I should hate this game.

I don't play hardcoe but I do the same thing with ammo. I keep hoarding all these different ammo types (and their weapons) in my hotel room, thinking I'll use it or try it at some point...but then I don't. One day I'll learn and immediately sell everything that isn't related to my character's current skillset. Then again, my OCD nature may not let me. I must collect. I must collect. I must collect.

Also, there's only one instance/quest in the game where I'll use a StealthBoy, otherwise they sit in my inventory collecting dust. I do use Sneak, I just don't use StealthBoys. I think this is because there's relatively few of them and I keep thinking 'save for a rainy day' but the rainy day never comes...it's a desert after all.

I think I've tried most things in the game. I really enjoy creating oddball characters with weird skill selections so I tend to see the most of that as well which is great fun.

But, never used the Mojave express boxes.

Also, there are some guns that I haven't used.

I love playing Caravan, it's a great little card-game but I really hope they fix how easy it is to exploit and improve the AI. But the idea and rules of it are really fun.

Caravan is such a waste of time, much like Roulette and the Slot machines. Then again only playing Blackjack to get kicked out of all the casinos took a long time to do..but the money was oh so good.

Ammo crafting is definitely not a waste of time. Some role plays that only use specific lower tier weapons benefit greatly from the crafted ammo. Unless your playing on Very Easy.

Having a bad graphics card, I have many of the view distances set pretty low. Red spots that show up at Perception 5? Can't see them on the screen, they're beyond the view distance range. It's pretty easy to get shot at by people who aren't visible as well. (One of the reasons that I like scoped weapons - zooming in lets you "see" further.....)

And then there's the whole "RPG" thing - my character might be more perceptive than me. Or smarter. Or stronger. Or etc, etc, etc..... so yeah - my character could easily be better at spotting enemies at a distance (red marks on the radar due to Perception) than I personally am. That's because this is an RPG game, not an FPS.

Agree about the RPG aspects of it. Realistically there's no reason to go above 6 in perception, yet my P.I. has a high perception because you would expect a detective to be perceptive.
