Game Features You Never Use

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 12:05 am

Never used drop boxes because I just found out what they do from this thread ! Now I know why they never had any loot in them :P

Never (well just the once to see it) used the new combat armour variations because they look ridiculous to me. Same with the 12.7 SMG, I think, the ugly over sized lego-looking-gun. Pretty much any of the energy weapons new in NV I don't use, they look sooo bad.

Never used that bad [censored] looking silenced, scoped SMG (maybe assault rifle ?) hanging on the wall in Mick and Ralf's, because I haven't figured out how to get it.

Never used any of the toilets for their intended use because all you can do is drink other peoples crap and hardcoe mode doesn't have a "you are now suffering from not taking a dump" feature.

Reasons why I haven't used the weapons is because they are hard to get or too lame.

5: NPCs and Hostiles I never encountered: Underpass Citizen, Boomer Chef, Boomer Munitions Manager, Boomer Teacher, Brotherhood Scout, NCR Prospector, NCR Mercenary, NCR Ranger Veteran (NOT a veteran ranger, a ranger veteran, those two NPCs are VERY different), NCR Ranger Veteran Commander, Great Khan Armorer, Alien, Alien Captain, Legendary Cazador, Legendary Deathclaw, Deathclaw Baby, Deathclaw Mother, Vault Dweller, Vault Security Guard, Vault Security Officer, Overseer, Giant Ant Queen, Giant Mantis Female, Rodent of Unusual Size, Unnaturally Large Sized Rodent, Lakelurk King, Legendary Nightstalker, Den Mother, NCR Sentry Bot, Sunset Sasparilla Eyebot, Vault-Tec Turret, Radscorpion Queen, All Spore Carriers and Spore Plants, Nightkin Sniper.

Never played in non-hardcoe mode.
Never had a low-Speech character.
Never sided with the Legion (I just don't like them).
Never sided with Yes-Man (he annoys me).
Never wiped out a group unless there was simply no alternative.
Never had about half the human followers (just Arcade, Boone, and Cass).
Never used a scoped weapon (I sell 'em).

Never played non-hardcoe or below very hard level. (FWE for FO3 spoiled me)
Rarely use campfires other than an initial throw of gecko steaks. At higher levels, too much of a hassle for so little reward.
Never side w/ powder gangers. Only cleaned out NCRCF once and found it boring.
Never gamble in casinos.
Haven't sided w/ NCR or Yes Man yet but may in my next playthroughs. Siding w/ Legion in final battle was SO much more intense than siding w/ House.
Rarely use energy weapons. I sell them and the ammo.
Haven't been able to use most individual round loading weapons due to bugs.
Only run consistently w/ Ed-E and then trading off w/ Rex.
Ran a short time w/ Boone, Arcade, and Veronica but got annoyed by "psychic" hostiles targeting me/them causing them to run off into a fight several rooms away.
Never finished as evil because it's way too easy to shift over to neutral or good no matter how many you kill or how much you steal.
I've used the Mojave Express boxes to move from Goodsprings to Novac in one shot, but found it was too annoying to do so when moving from Novac to the strip/freeside.
Only infiltrated the Gunrunners once - won't do it again.
Hated Camp Searchlight, won't do it again.
Don't drink alcohol, or use AP increasing or damage resisting/increasing chems. I rarely use stat buffing chems unless I'm just a point or two short of meeting a speech/barter req.

I never craft stuff.

I actually like Caravan a LOT, but the AI is absolute trash as an opponent; they don't ever play face cards on you to mess you up. It'd be a lot more fun if the enemy actually knew what he was doing.

Yes but what about your game character?

She doesn't like wearing cloths most of the time either.

There's no DT for your character then, but maybe your luck goes through the roof.

Anyway, I will never use explosives as a tag skill because the idea of being face to face with a bunch of enemies in a tight space while I'm holding a grenade doesn't make sense. Ill probably never NOT have repair as a major skill because I find it way too useful. Ill also never buy 'that gun' because having a unique weapon for sale is shanty.

Caravan. The controls are just bewildering for that mini-game on the PC. If I could figure out how to do something with my cards, other than discarding them, I might take the time to learn the rules.

The Mojave Express drop boxes are quite useful if you live in places like Novac, Lucky 38 or Goodsprings. Nice to be able to "Fed-Ex" loot you want to keep rather than traveling all the way back home.

This
(What? Are you reading my mind? ...must be a fan of short stories)

+crafting. I recycle/build ammo all the time but other than repair kits and doctors bags I craft a total of 0 items per playthrough.
(this will probably change as soon as I do a hardcoe run)

I didnt quite under stand your last sentence

About fast travel breaking game immersion? Fast travel is very convenient but I like to set limits on how often I use it, atleast with regards to traveling to my room in Novac. It just feels ridiculous making frequent trips to Novac after every "dungeon dive", particularly when I'm at the other end of the map, and I found Mojave Express boxes helpful in getting rid of loot without traveling to Novac.

That's a shame, it's probably the easiest way to get money at the beginning of the game(and isn't based on the luck stat). First playthrough I did, I was at 10k caps, on my second playthrough I was at 28k caps and I'd just finished up at the NCR border outpost before nipton.

Myself? Dropboxes, I haven't found a use yet.

a shame not to do tha easy way

that statement is a shame

You can get into allot of trouble, or get sidetracked by other things, if you just walked. Even if you have traveled through the same area several times.

Actually, since unlike in Fallout 3 and Oblivion most of the time there is nohing between the locations you travel to, so fast traveling isn't cheating in this game :D

Good lord.....it's not like I don't ever fast travel. It's necessary in this game but like I said earlier, I don't like to use it all the time when traveling to certain places. Bouncing from one location to another makes everything feel less integrated. I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way.

Ehhhh. Bullet crafting, Insult me as you will, but honestly, I find all that mess confusing. Powders, casings, ummm, whatever else. It's all so confusing. Only thing I ever craft in game are party time mentats.

You don't know what you're missing :D (In reality, few hilarious dialogue lines)

And for unarmored (or clothed ;)) characters there are the toughness perk and subdermal armor. My current character has DT of 6 naked. With the toughest PA that makes DT over 30. Edit: actually, that's 6+28+6=40  With the mod that removes the 20% of damage that goes trough always, that makes her damn near invulnerable. Well, i wanted a "Tank" character :D

Of course you only need DT if you're going to get hit :ninja: My assassin-type character only wears the Merc Cruiser outfit.

And on topic, the "Super Weapon". The only one of my characters that uses Energy Weapons is of the mind that the other options are more beneficial in the Mojave situation.

Never used some of the magazines. Lockpick, Science, Speech and Barter mags can be useful at times. But Guns (Milsurp review)??? When a Deathclaw with a Cazador riding on his shoulder is coming at you, what are you going to say ; "Hey, wait a minute, big fella, let me finish this here article in Milsurp . . . I don't think so.

I haven't played hardcoe yet, so other than a couple of things I haven't used crafting at all. For the record, I played Fallout 3 using FWE quite often, so all of the hardcoe stuff like ammo weight, eating, sleeping and hydrating are nothing new to me. Honestly, they were good for a change of pace, but to me were sort of burdensome.

Caravan - haven't played the 1st hand, lol.

Ammo crafting - have dabbled in it a little, but there's a lot of AP & HP ammo available for sale and caps are easy to make so I haven't done much.

On the other hand, I'm using the Mojave Express Expansion mod and added several drop boxes around. And with the portable container you can leave at home I'm using them a lot to ship my gear back home and continue on with my adventures. It's really a great mod!

I used milsurp review with my unarmed character so I could buy ammo from Alexander to give to Raul.

He uses the Avenger minigun with AP rounds, so he goes through ammo very quickly and I need lots of suppliers.

That reminds me...I would never use speech either as a tag skill. Also, I'm pretty sure no one uses 'here and now' perk.
