Games you hate that everyone else loves and vice-versa

Ahh, I understand now. Sorry about that -- I like your rationale.

No worries. I've had a lot of people give me grief for wanting more solo play in an MMORPG.

I should also say that another appeal is all the life in the cities. With players running around everywhere and doing different things, I find that to be really cool and appealing.

---

Another game I just realized I can't stand, Dragon Age: Origins. For some reason, I just can't get into this game. I don't know why but I find it boring.

I liked Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood but I wouldn't go near saying it's a great series. I didn't like the first two, but I am buying the last in the series. I'm a story geek and just curious as to how they're going to tie it all together.
And I really loved Half-Life. I played all the stupid cheesy spin offs too.

I've always liked the Myst series, including URU, but I've only ever met one other person who agreed or who even knew what URU was...
Any of those FPS games out now. (BF, MW, CoD, etc.) All my friends think they're God's gift to gaming but I find them extremely boring. (All my friends also find my favorite game - Morrowind - about as fun as paint drying.. so yeah...)
Baldur's Gate. I am obviously missing the gene needed to play multiple characters in 3rd person.

And I wanted to play the Gothic series, but the only disc I could find was some collection of all 3 of the first games and it didn't work. The first game never loaded past the first screen, the second game had the expansion that made it frustrating to the point of spending 10 hours just trying to survive walking 5 feet, and the 3rd wouldn't run.

I really don't like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport games, they're both too lifeless for me to get any enjoyment out of either of them. Grid is to this day my favourite racing game.
A large reason why I hate these two popular game series is actually because of a small thing. I really despise that racing line that they have, it doesn't help you learn at all. It just tells you what the best way to get around that corner is, rather then letting you try to figure it out. Grid's solution is perfect: distance markers. Signs on the side of the road that tell you how far away the corner is and the one thing I still remember from that brilliant game is break at the 50. It lets you judge when the best time to break is and lets you decide how to take that corner.

There's very few games I actually hate....but games that I didn't like enough to play for very long:

Oblivion (even tried it again a few years later, no go)
No One Lives Forever
Crysis (pretty much all "military" shooters, really)
Planescape Torment
The Longest Journey
Starcraft

I don't buy many games I don't like so I have a short list.
Demon Souls, I just don't like getting killed in one hit by bosses and I found the gameplay boring.
COD at times is fun but at most times just mindless shooting.
Ya as you see I don't buy many games I don't like.

I don't know about GT, but there are plenty of markers and other stuff on the tracks in Forza to help you know when to break. If there is one on the real track, there is one in the game. If not, then there isn't. I might be a bit biased when it comes to that though, since I've grown up around all sorts of racing, in games and in real life. A lot of the signs and stuff in Grid aren't there in real life..

I will say one thing though, the racing line in Forza doesn't even come close to telling you the best way around the corner. It tells you to brake and enter turns at odd places, most of the time making you miss the apex of the turn completely.

As for games that i hate, Any CoD since CoD 4. They have all been the same, but slightly more annoying because of some new perk or kill streak or something.

Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. I try very hard to get into Rockstar games, but I just find them so boring. It's just a huge snoozfest for me. I really liked Vice City, but that's the only one I've ever played that's been fun.

Mass Effect 2, I'll probably pick up 3 when its in the bargain bin.

Assassins Creed
Resident Evil 4

Edit: Also Farcry and Crysis, just beautiful engines without any real "game" to them.

Hate list.

Well pretty much all street fighter type fighting games and racing games in general. I like racing in a game that has other things going on but just racing? Incredibly boring for me.

Madden. I loved it when I played football. Now I just do not care. Same for any sports game.

Dragon Age 2. Just such an overwhelming disappointment that I could not play it even though to was an ok game. Dragon Age Origins just made it have too much to live up too.

FF XIII. Linear and horrible. FF VII. Cannot play that game. I tried. So many times. Just no. Didn't like it.

Bioshock. Played it for a few hours. Promptly forgot about it all together.

I am forgetting many I am sure...

Love list.

Tes games. Many people think it is too big and the combat svcks. I say that is not the point. Everyone moves to different strokes.

CoD games. I like the lone wolf multiplayer despite it being unrealistic as hell. It is fun. That is it.

Shadow of Rome. One of my favorite games. Got like a 4/10 rating or something lol.

FF X and XII. They seem to get a lot of bad rep for some reason. I loved blitzball and the creature hunting.

Fallout New Vegas-always about the damned bugs. It was great despite the bugs.

So many more.

I dislike the Mass Effect series, TES series, or the Fable series. I love every Pokemon game, but since almost everyone I talk to wears rose tinted goggles when talking about Pokèmon apparently after Crystal Pokémon games went to [censored], I have no idea what they're talking about.

Heh, I actually enjoyed Platinum more than just about any other Pokemon game I've played, including HeartGold and all the previous gens. Black/White though just...ehhhh...too much 3D. 3D is bad for sprites. Makes otherwise beautiful detailed sprites look cheap and low resolution.

But I digress.

I disliked the 3d too, but they were still good Pokèmon games

My friend and his brothers all love CoD, so everytime I go there we always play black ops(although I love when we play zombies). The thing that I find so disturbing is that they seriously can't understand why I dislike it...

I really am enjoying Warhammer 40k II and its two xpacs right now . I've heard all sorts of complaints ( mostly stemming from RTS purists who dislike the unbalanced aspects of the multiplayer or from those who complain about a single faction campagin) but I love the mix of RPG, RTS and action that the game has.

- Sports games - Same reasoning as below. Also the Franchise/Dynasty mode fill a lot of the same needs as an RPG game. I'm roleplaying and owner/coach. =D
- Call of Duty - Nothing wrong with it other that a lack of any meaningful change. Short campaigns that enjoyable and memorable. Also I can still play it with my friends who are hundreds of miles away at different schools. Oh and the drinking game that me and my buddies created to add some risk to multiplayer. I wouldn't play it or even buy it were it not for the social experience that comes along with it

Probably some more but I'll be too busy enjoying the game to care what others think.

I dont play a lot of games that I hate, mostly because I know what genres, settings and gameplay I enjoy. Even when I do go out on a limb or have a craving for some certain genre I can usually find things about the game that will keep me playing. However I really dislike..........

- Modern J-rpg's. They all have the same battle system and strange settings( locations, plots, characters) where nothing is well defined. Mostly I hate having to wander around mundane semi open worlds and then go through a loading screen because something wants to fight me.
- Fallout 2: I understand its importance and could probably get into it but its hard to tell whats going on due to the shoddy interface. I get stuck in the starting tutorial because I can't differentiate the chest texture from the floor texture, some textures are flat out broken. I really want to love this one and if someone could provide a fix I would give it another shot.
- Age of Empires III - I would like it but I can never seem to build my army big enough or gather resources. Also the inability to save in action battles ruined it for me.
- Probably some more from my past but I don't really know what people love. Seems as though hating something that others love is often times just for the purpose of inciting a response

People are allowed to dislike Bioshock? BLASPHEMY!

In my experience, if someone dislikes something, that garners high-praise from others, they are misunderstanding the appeal, or there is something about it that doesn't bother many people, but breaks the game for them.

Fallout 3. Everyone raves about it and dang, you would not believe how many times I've tried that game. I actually had a better time sitting there and watching my friend play it than playing it myself.

Whichever Gears of War I played with a friend I hated too. (I think it might have been 2?)

I quite liked Limbo from the 360 arcade, some of the puzzles infuriated me though. I don't like games that are too difficult.

I don't know if there were any games I "hated", as that's a rather strong word. There were a couple of games I bought which I found very boring. I tried to play Bioshock twice. The first time, I lost interest after several hours. The second time, I forced myself to play all the way to the big reveal, when I realized I wasn't having fun. It felt more like work than entertainment. That's not to say I hated the game. It just didn't do anything for me.

Oblivion was largely the same way. Some parts of the game were alright, but the main quest really bored me, and the entire second act was fetch-quest padding. I forced myself to complete the main quest once, but I've never touched it again since. Again, not a bad game. I just found it really dull.

A lot of people have already mentioned Dragon Age II. While I didn't hate it, I dislike many aspects of it a great deal. I wasn't surprised by the re-use of locations, as Bioware has been doing this for some time (anyone remember the side quests from Mass Effect 1?). The thing I disliked about it the most was the unrealized potential. The game is about tension between templars and mages. Yet, when you play as a mage, all the NPCs, including the templars, completely ignore that fact that you are obviously a mage until the third act, when they offer some lame explanation. They could have done so much more with this. I was reminded of VtM: Bloodlines, and the way playing a Nosferatu completely changed the player's relationship to the game world. Playing as a mage in Dragon Age II could have been really tense, constantly having to be on the lookout for templars, and having to take great care to conceal your magical talents. Instead, playing as a mage is no different from playing a warrior or rogue. They just didn't even try (which pretty much sums up the entire game).

Black Ops is the best Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. There, I said it. I feel so much better. The campaign is epic-sauce and the multiplayer is worlds ahead of MW2, but not quite as good as MW.
