Games you hate that everyone else loves and vice-versa

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:21 pm

I could never get into the Fallout series.
Call me crazy, but I could never get into them. I love RPG games and am fond of shooters, but it just didn't work out for me. I loved MW and OB.
I tried multiple times, but I just didn't find it fun.

A game I loved that got crappy reviews is the Megaman StarForce series. I don't know why, but I just love them. I'm kind of sad the megaman battle network/starforce series has ended.
Another is the harvest moon series. My friends hate it, but I can't put it down. Its just so damn addicting.

Red Faction

I found the gameplay boring, the destructible terrain gimmicky, and the plot insultingly banol. I wish I could say it was a forgettable experience, but it wasn't.

Minecraft. I don't get what all the fuss is about, and I've owned the game since alpha.

Me too! I don't know why, but I just hated fallout 3 and new vegas! I tried both of them a few times, but could never do it.

Well, only one game that I really hate, that's Dragon Age 2. But people doesn't seem to like it also (so this doesn't quite like the title ask).

As for game that I like, that's Starcraft II. I like it. But people seem to dislike RTS these days.

Oblivion. Generic Tolkien-esque fantasy setting, forgettable characters/story and a whole lot of space that's populated with a whole lot of nothing. I like exploration, but not when the scenery is so devoid of variety and the only content present are copy/pasted caves and ruins. I couldn't get into Morrowind either, but I've been told that its setting is a bit more unique than Oblivion's and from my brief time with the game I walked away with a slightly higher opinion of the game than its successor.

I like FarCry 2 well enough, but when I bring it up people seem to pull out pre-made lists of every single merit of the game they didn't like.

I never really liked Half Life 2 or Mass effect 2. But both are often considered some of the best games ever made.

I never got into Oblivion either sadly but I'm going to give Skyrim a try.

Spore was a game I quite enjoyed but no one else in the gaming community shared my enjoyment.

Minecraft.

I wondered what all the hype was about after skimming the thread here....I looked at it and "Oh Puleeeze".

I like tea but this is definitely not my cup....[edit] I don't hate it though. That's a strong word.

I just can't seem to be able to get into the Baldur's Gate series. Those games never held any appeal to me whatsoever, and when I voice my opinion about it I get assaulted by rabid fans of the series.

Batman. I have Arkham Asylum, and I beat it, I just didn't think it was very fun or very well-designed at all. The combat bored me and the forced stealth sections were also pretty lame. I'm not a comic fan so I don't have any vested interest in Batman either. So the plot was really lacking as well. I don't mean to bash it, its not like it was bad or anything but it didn't stand out at all to me. I'd much rather go play Deus Ex or MGS if I want stealth action.

I dunno... its one of those games that EVERYBODY seems to like, but I just thought it was completely unremarkable. Zero interest in Arkham City.

Gosh there really is so many.

Let's see, Mass Effect 2 is horrible, most FPS like Counter Strike or early Call of Duty multiplayer.

I've also been really dissatisfied with MOST MMORPGs and I refuse to play them unless I can solo them. I know, I know - You're supposed to work with people, that's the point - but I don't care because I really don't like them. I've only enjoyed 2 in all my gaming Star Wars Galaxies early release (pre CU) and WOW.

There are a few others like IL2 Strumovik. It's a combat flight simulator and while it can be fun, it's really bad in some really stupid ways.

Also mine craft is just ok. I think it would be better if the minerals you mined actually had more of an effect on your items. I know that diamond tools are better than stone. I'm talking about MUCH deeper depth to the crafting. Where you can add all sorts of modifiers to your crafting. Like having different quality of diamonds that you mine and the better the quality the better the weapon. I don't know the crafting quality is just so nonexistent.

Same here, it is one of the more boring games I've played, yet it's so highly thought of.

-Assassin's Creed 2. Probably one of the most boring sandbox games out there. I'm never touching this series again.

-Morrowind. I liked it at first...and then I played many other RPGs that came before and after it...and when I came back to it years later, I realized it hadn't aged well at all compared to any of them.

-Jak 2. Got rave reviews when it came out, but I all I got was a badly designed wannabe combination of Ratchet and Clank and Grand Theft Auto.

-Chrono Cross. 10/10 my ass. It had one of the worst battle systems in a JRPG ever, pretty much no challenge, and a ridiculous story full of holes that doesn't make any damn sense. And I had this opinion of it before even playing Chrono Trigger.

-Tomb Raider II. Got rave reviews when it first came out. When I played it, I didn't see what the fuss was. Camera and controls were confusing even back in the day, levels were large but empty and confusing, and the shooting was pretty lousy. I've never touched a Tomb Raider game since.

Mafia 2, I was a HUGE fan of the original Mafia game but number 2 was nothing like one and ruined it for me. The absence of free ride was the worst thing ever.

I liked Duke Nukem Forever... Now I have no friends. :(

I loved Chrono Cross's story. No so much the first time, mostly because it's so ridiculous and I had a horrible attention span to boot, but after playing Trigger I started picking up on tons of vague references I hadn't before. Chronopolis, the Counter-Time Experiment, Belthasar, Schala, Time Devourer, FATE, etc. Just love it.

That "ending" will forever remain a steaming pile though.

It's hard to understand why one would waste the bandwidth to play an MMO if the intent is to go solo. I've read the explanation.. it still doesn't make sense, but whatever floats your boat.
