Games You Regretted Buying?

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:53 pm

I'm sure there are a few copies of games you regretted buying. When you didn't do enough research, or just made a hasty decision. Either the game wasn't worth the price, or it was flat out a horrible game.

Games:

Brink - Horrible HUD, unbalanced classes and weapon types. Very short campaigne with bad ending.
This wierd Pinball racing game for the nintendo 64. - I'm not even sure what is was but someone was on mind altering substances when creating this. can't even remember the name. Maybe I would have liked it if I was on the same substances?
COD MW2 - Just a rehash of the same game from before only horribly imbalanced, no rifle sway, Over priced DLC that I thankfully didn't bother getting, oyeah....very imbalanced.

So what did you regret getting?

Modern Warfare 2- Very unbalanced multiplayer, no dedicated servers, hackers.

Animal Crossing: City Folk- You can't use the Gamecube controller, you're forced to use the Wiimote. Terrible.

Sim City Societies- Horribly dumbed down.

Red Faction. It could have simply been a mediocre shooter but the story was so poorly done it actually detracted from the gameplay. I also found the destructible terrain to be gimmicky throughout most of the game.

Brink - Somewhat regrettable purchase. I did sink 37 hours into it but it wasn't released in a "finished" state.
COD: Black Ops - I didn't like the campaign and the multiplayer wasn't all that great

I'm sure there are more but those are the two that I remember now.

Divinity 2 Ego Draconis, I thought it would be a decent RPG but the amount of bugs in that game is just ridiculous and I just gave up at the end.

I don't regret buying New Vegas but I wished I would've waited for the ultimate edition.

Fable 3, I liked Fable 2 although it did have some flaws but when I played Fable 3 I'm like they streamlined it in a majorly bad way. Turned it back in a week later.

Dragon Age 2, Liked the 1st one, heard the bad things about the 2nd one. I thought well it's Bioware they don't design bad games, well I was wrong there that was 60 bucks wasted. If they would've delayed it a year or two it would've been much better and I probably would still have it but they killed it in the name of greed.

Two Worlds- I don't need to explain that one do I?
Far Cry 2- I hate this game. I haven't got a solid reason for it though :/
Alpha Protocol- I found it very dull. I haven't finished a single mission yet.

Star Ocean 3. Coming from the very fun experience that was The Last Hope, I expected something on par with it, at least. I was disappointed.

Same case with Oblivion. Hell, I even bought the Collector's Edition of that, which only made me regret it even more. I wish I had waited until it was $30 at the most.

Dragon Quest VIII. The reviews were all raving over it, but I have no idea why. It's an old school grindfest RPG with the graphics of a modern game, with all the tedium and boredom that goes with it.

I actually liked Two Worlds. The follow-up was a bit dull though; not terrible, but it suggested that making something more polished isn't necessarily an improvement.

Hmm, my mind seems to have gone blank as far as truly dreadful games go. Probably the most boring I can remember offhand was Quake 4.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. fffff, that game. It's a buggy pile of misanthropic, misogynistic juvenile tripe. I bought it to complete the series during a Steam sale (already owned Sands of Time and was buying Two Thrones), which in retrospect was a poor life choice. I could've done without playing that game. At least SoT and TT are good.

Republic: The Revolution. It's good, but...it's got really sluggish gameplay with a poor tutorial to boot. I haven't finished a game with it yet and don't really have the enthusiasm to. I don't really regret buying it, but if I had the choice to do over again I probably wouldn't buy it.

assassins creed 1 and 2

minecraft .........not that i bought it, but that i bought it at beta instead of alpha. if you purchase it at alpha then everything else including DLCs after that is free. :sadvaultboy:

World of Warcraft

two worlds............the first one. the second game was actually pretty good.

alpha protocol

gothic 3

deus ex IW............it wasnt a horrible game but it was so consolized compared to the original that it was a major major let down.

@terror of death............they re released eco draconis 2 and really cleaned it up. i got it on sale for 5 bucks and was suprised that i actually enjoyed it.

@skoomaholics. the reason you hated far cry 2 is probably because of the instantly respawning checkpoints. everything else i loved about the game except that if you moved a couple hundred meters from a camp and went back it was full again. [censored].

Brothers in Arms: Hells highway - Just not my kind of game......

Also the Da Vinci disappearance dlc for AC brotherhood....... My god that was lame -.-

That didn't matter to me really. I enjoyed spaming checkpoints with IEDs.

LA Noire. Its a great game, but its more like a movie. You'll watch it again a long time down the road. In which case you can probably grab it in the bargain bin for a reduced price.

Brink. Its just a technical mess with my graphics card. I'm not sure if its Splash damages fault or AMD's but the game plays horribly on my computer.

Kinect in general. I fell into the gimmick...its been a paper weight ever since I bought it.

Starcraft 2 Collector's edition. I don't regret buying SC2, i regret buying the collector's edition. I haven't played the game in months nor do I intend do.

Super Street Fighter IV. Although it was rather cheap, i bought it simply to get in on the street fighter craze with some of my friends. I never really spent time playing online or challenging myself.

Black Ops. It was an impulse buy. I was never interested in the game as I knew the quality of work in comparison to infinity ward.

Empire Earth III, biggest game-buying mistake I ever made. The first two were both awesome, so I figured the third one would be really kick-ass. Oh GOD was I ever wrong. It was such an embarrassing [censored]-up that Mad Doc removed all references to it from their website.

Also, SimCity Societies, svcked so much that I was back to playing 4 in a week. And Mercenaries 2, it's an okay game in it's own right, but not at all comparable to the first one.

I regret buying Halo: Reach. I bought into the hype and thought it might be a actual fun game. Nope. Still the same stuff it has been since Halo:CE.

I also regret getting the New Vegas:Collector's Edition considering the game is down to 10 bucks now and all the extra stuff svcked. I would be more upset but fortunately I traded in Halo:Reach to get New Vegas.

Iall the extra stuff svcked

I kind of want the cards, they look pretty cool. Not worth the extra money though.

Why are people regretting Honest Hearts? I thought it was good, even though it was random as far as the story goes.

Dragon Age and Gladius. They both felt horribly hammy and cliched, and the actual gameplay just bored me. prod, heal, prod...

Every other game, I've had at least some enjoyment that made it worth the purchase, but not those two.

Maybe one day, when I'm very bored, I will make an effort to finish DA, but never Gladius.

Dragon Quest VIII. The reviews were all raving over it, but I have no idea why. It's an old school grindfest RPG with the graphics of a modern game, with all the tedium and boredom that goes with it.
It's actually my favourite game ever, although the grinding and lack of an enemy health bar can be frustrating, when you don't know how much longer you need to survive. I think it's just how flawless the game really felt to me. Like I was playing a 1990s Disney film.

LBP, I know most people love it and although I love Sackboy I find the game extremely boring
The platforming is kinda basic, but I mostly enjoy building stuff and pissing around with explosives and flying houses and stuff in create mode.

Red Faction. It could have simply been a mediocre shooter but the story was so poorly done it actually detracted from the gameplay. I also found the destructible terrain to be gimmicky throughout most of the game.

I only played gurilla but yes it was terrible, the novvelty soon wore off.

Two Worlds 2

I heared they really improved and it was ok ?

Alpha Protocol- I found it very dull. I haven't finished a single mission yet.

Thats not really giving it a chance.

Minecraft, I soon saw it as a pointless grind.
Borderlands, its like minecraft, only less colour and cost me more money. Terrible game.
MW2, quickscopers, DW shotguns, grenade spamers, tac knife... So many issues.
Blops, it svcked, now there are exploding cars after 2 kills, and sniping was just broke, as was hit detection. It was worse than MW2.
Tenchu z, it had potential, but god it svcked.
Splinter cell, [censored] that game I cant get past level 2, the gun svcks, I know its not a shooter, but I should be able to hit a target.
Fable 2, terrible game, too easy, nice visuals though, but not worht the £40.
Fable 3, congratulations LH, this made me look at fable 2 in a good light, becuase it was so much better.
Assassins creed (2) repetative, got dull, 2 was better, but still dull, the story was to ott for me.
Oblivion, too much copy pasted environments, and I only really enjoyed the dark brotherhood quests.

EDIT : How could I forget GTA IV, that was a terrible game, they went in the wrong direction, thank go for saints row 2 to take its place.

Silverfall
Reason: It was a crappy game.

Gothic 1, 2 and 3
Reason: I already had the Gothic Universe collection

Startopia and Zeus: Master of Olympus
Reason: I svck at strategy games, what was I thinking? Oh well, at least my sister has gotten some enjoyment from Startopia.

Devil May Cry
Reason: I thought I'd give it a second chance, but I don't think anything can entice me to try it again.

Wipeout: Fusion
Reason: It was recommended to me. I don't even like racing games.

Champions of Norrath & Champions: Return to Arms
Reason: Can't get into CoN, why did I buy RtA? Grrr.
