I refuse to click an answer on any of those questions. I think the "Hellz no, we Pwnd this planet, something something" was meant to be it's not going to happen, but I'm not quite sure. And theres not even an option for "I think it's all complete bullcrap" for the second one.

It's unlikely, but you never know what's around the corner. The Cuban Missile Crisis is just one example of how we can go from normal life to the brink of something extremely serious in a short space of time.

Ever read/seen The Road? Although the cause of the disaster isn't clearly stated it shows how everything we take for granted can change in an instant. At any moment our doom could come crashing down on us from space and we'd be able to do nothing about it.

Jeez, I just depressed myself.

I've seen The Road, but like you said, it doesn't tell what actually happened, and it only focuses on the story of a few people and not the faith of humanity. Anyway, I don't think it's all that unlikely given the situation I depicted. Once there is far too few resources to go around, nations will fight for those resources that still remain. And when it comes to survival, you never know what people might actually decide to do, and we have more than enough nuclear missiles to destroy the planet - which is why I used Fallout as an example.

I think it will happen, but not in our life time. We'll probably be here for atleast 200 more years or so however that's when it will get sticky. I'm personally think we'll see war come around due to terrorism and perhaps might see a "Terrorist Nation" so to speak. This will in turn lead to Einstein's statement of "I know not what WW3 will be fought with, but I do know that WW4 will be fought with rocks." *Sorry bad paraphrasing I know*

I lost all faith in the article when it said Seth Rogen was a "funnyman".
But Yeah, George Lucas is going to feel like a [censored] on January 1, 2013.

Do you think you can make a bet on this, at the bookies?? Obviously you'd have to bet the world won't end, because if you bet it ends, and you win, you still loose :P

I don't think anything remarkable will happen in 2012, though NASA has confirmed that Sol is acting strangely and some solar flares or something are on their way to Earth. It will probably cause some problems with satellites and some people will go crazy, but surely it's not gonna be the end of the world.

What happens in 2012? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bgBT-HFWKQ&feature=related

I don't believe in all this Mayan business just like I didn't believe in Y2K.

Y2K was a non event because it was prepared for, because it was really going to happen. Not as the end-of-the-world scenario as sensationalistic media would have you beleive, mind you. And some small stuff happened still.

As for the topic at hand, this is good news, you can be succesful even if you're gullible :P

That is just ridiculous. "Terrorist nation"? What does that marvellous oxymoron even mean? Well technically it's not an oxymoron because every nation is by default a terrorist or has been at some point in time.

and that Ewoks weren't cool...

<3
Ewoks are freaking creepy. Like little bucktooth cannibal hamsters.

As for the article, science and hollywood never mix well, IRL. I am not surprised.
They are there to entertain me, not to set poltical or scientific standards.
Far too many people put too much faith in what an actor or director thinks about a situation said director or actor has no education or expertise in. Which is why I voted overpopulation and lack of resources. Too many idiots svcking up too many resources on too much frivolous drivel.

This explains Jar jar and ewoks. I hope he goes mad and sells starwars or something, that way people could remake them and get rid of the damn teddy bears...

You mean like a "gritty reboot" by Christopher Nolan?

Muahahahahah it's Y2K all over again. Time to go and watch the svckers. I was only a nine year old boy when the world was doomed last time. Good memories, I remember when people thought calculators would turn into skud missiles and the world would be taken over by robots. In all honesty I sat on the couch playing my gameboy colour playing pokemon, laughing and wondering why people were saying the world was over. Looking back it's more than a little funny to think I was one of the few, proud, rational people sitting in that room.

The only reason you would think the world would end in that exact year is if you believe the [censored] about the Mayan calendar ending in that year. What people don't realize is that the Mayans simply didn't bother making a calendar that lasts forever (and they couldn't, because they all died and [censored]), and that the calendar is actually not ending, it's cyclical. So it just starts over like nothing happened.

The world will go to [censored] in about 200 years though due to overpopulation an dwindling resources. Unless some kind of Mass Effect [censored] goes down before then. But it won't. Because there are no Mass Relays (that we know of). So our children's children are [censored]. svcks to be them. We're all right though.

MorrowindFan: Keep dreaming, dude.

Anyway, just heard that Sir Isaac Newton somehow calculated that the Apocalypse will be in 2060. 2060 will be the new 2012 (if there isn't any others before that, which I'm sure there is...). Raise your hands if you're looking forward to that (and I will cut them off).

Even the Mayans don't believe in all this "Mayan business", as they are on record as saying. It's other people interpreting their calendar, which has also been revealed to very probably not actually end in 2012 in the first place.

Are there Mayans living today who still follow their ancient calendar and religion?

I thought they were all (forcibly) converted by the conquistadors and missionaries centuries ago.

Will the world end in 2012? Doubtful, unless some world leader really wants to be a dike that day. Nah, actually there's a legion of chaos marines coming in whenever they feel like it. So, it could be now, or it could be 10^1123 years from now.

It could be his way of convincing the Star Wars fanbase that the world won't end. Doesn't the fanbase hate him?

Archaeologically speaking, the Mayan calendar is a set of rotating circles that will start over in 2012. That's it. The Mayan's did not think the world would end, it is just that their mechanism for labeling dates and times of year, lined up with astronomy, starts again in 2012. But, that is not to say I am not looking forward to some really intense orgiastic celebrations come 12/31/11...
