George Lucas thinks the world will end in 2012

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:10 am

Funnyman Seth Rogen was left stunned by a recent encounter with his moviemaking hero George Lucas - because the Star Wars director spent 20 minutes telling him the world would end in 2012.

Rogen was left speechless when Lucas and Steven Spielberg joined a movie meeting he was a part of - but the encounter has left him worried his life will be over next year.

He recalls, “George Lucas sits down and seriously proceeds to talk for around 25 minutes about how he thinks the world is gonna end in the year 2012, like, for real. He thinks it.

“He’s going on about the tectonic plates and all the time Spielberg is, like, rolling his eyes, like, ’My nerdy friend won’t shut up, I’m sorry...’

“I first thought he (Lucas) was joking... and then I totally realized he was serious and then I started thinking, ’If you’re George Lucas and you actually think the world is gonna end in a year, there’s no way you haven’t built a spaceship for yourself... So I asked him... ’Can I have a seat on it?’

“He claimed he didn’t have a spaceship, but there’s no doubt there’s a Millennium Falcon in a garage somewhere with a pilot just waiting to go... It’s gonna be him and Steven Spielberg and I’ll be blown up like the rest of us.”

George Lucas has officially lost his mind.

I thought he officially lost it when he made the prequels? Zing! :P

Seriously though, I agree with Seti. I don't believe in all this Mayan business just like I didn't believe in Y2K. I'm not going to stress because some dude ran out of space on his stone tablet. And if anything else there calendar had to end at some point and that doesn't = end of the world. I could make a calendar right now that ends tomorrow and I'm fairly certain the world will still be here.

It's existence's way of telling him no more meddling with the Original Trilogy and that Ewoks weren't cool. Han shot first, etc.

Ewoks were there from the beginning, what are you talking about? Is this about the whole Wookie thing.

That gave me an idea for an April Fool's joke. On April 1st, I'm going to make a calendar and have it end on April 1st, 2511. Some scientists will find it sometime in the future and misinterpret it as magically marking the end of the world.

It was meant as a separate thought, not that Ewoks were one of the later additions.

I fully approve of this idea  Though, I imagine by then it won't matter because we will have colonized mars or some other planet. MASS EFFECT!

Have to agree. I would more so state my opinion on the matter but of course it could turn religious.

Where's my mix of killer robots and zombies option! :swear:

The only reason you would think the world would end in that exact year is if you believe the [censored] about the Mayan calendar ending in that year. What people don't realize is that the Mayans simply didn't bother making a calendar that lasts forever (and they couldn't, because they all died and [censored]), and that the calendar is actually not ending, it's cyclical. So it just starts over like nothing happened.

The world will go to [censored] in about 200 years though due to overpopulation an dwindling resources. Unless some kind of Mass Effect [censored] goes down before then. But it won't. Because there are no Mass Relays. So our children's children are [censored]. svcks to be them. We're all right though.

So do you think civilization will eventually rise again after that? or extinction?

I think none of us will know what will happen 200 years in the future since nobody 200 years ago predicted cell phones and all the cool stuff we have today.

Who would have taught that making sci fi movies all you're life would have the same effect as drug. Kids don't do sci fi , it [censored]s you up. ( i'm making this my slogan damn it)

I don't think the world will end in 2012 but a nuclear holocaust seems feasible in the next 50 years.

Don't worry George, you still got time left to release yet another crappy project that ruins the memory of my beloved original trilogy.

On a more serious note, humankind is doomed to extinction in one way or another. It's just a matter of time. If it's not a supervolcano or asteroid it'll be something else. The next ice age will reduce our numbers quite a bit.

Hard to say. If most species become extinct or close to extinction, some people with enough resources might be able to hide away and then later manage to live off the barren land if there's little competition. If they aren't killed in the war, that is. "What war?", you may ask. Well, with resources dwindling, there will most certainly be wars to decide who gets them. A Fallout-like scenario isn't exactly unlikely. Not gonna happen in our lifetime though.

It's unlikely, but you never know what's around the corner. The Cuban Missile Crisis is just one example of how we can go from normal life to the brink of something extremely serious in a short space of time.

Ever read/seen The Road? Although the cause of the disaster isn't clearly stated it shows how everything we take for granted can change in an instant. At any moment our doom could come crashing down on us from space and we'd be able to do nothing about it.

Jeez, I just depressed myself.
