My girl friend......

sooo.... i am 20. so unlike in most online games, i'm considered...... to be... young here?
The average age of online games is more around 30 than 20. Unless you're playing games particularily target the young (f2p + children themes), at 20 you're young anywhere.

You'd be surprised how many people aged 50+ can be found on this forum :)

It's Rule 30. We can't fight the ultimate power of rules of the internet.

Well I can, I am a 21-year-old girl who loves playing video games, I have been playing games since I was 3-4 years old and my father taught me how to play games on his computer, like Pinball and some racing game on MS-DOS (it was called Wacky or something like that). And when Playstation1 first came out and I played Crash Team Racing and Tekken 2 and 3 with my male cousins and friends, none of them thought it was inappropriate, or that it was going against some silly internet rule. On the contrary, we had tons of fun! I grew up playing video games with my family and friends, and still manage to have a normal social life as well. Therefore, it appears not every rule on the internet is to be followed, because apparently they are not all true. There

Don't worry, I'm 21-soon-to-be-22, at least you're not alone

Me and the husband are both as addicted to Skyrim as each other. We both married on all our characters and don't have anything to tie our characters together.

In my humble opinion, games are there to roleplay that which we cannot do. I don't know about you, but when I shout Fus Ro Dah, the cat doesn't fly across the room or anything.

If you're gf's getting jealous over a bunch of pixels, maybe she needs a little help.

"Rules of the Internet" is a meme, google it up. Rule 30 says "There are no girls in the Internet". There was a thread here once with a question aimed specifically at the female players and most of the answers came from men, so maybe there is a little truth in this rule... No, just kidding
Rule 34 is entirely true, though...

Omg I'm so sorry! Then I guess you can imagine how many times I've heard things like this from guys and girls who think it's so inappropriate and such a huge crime for a girl to play games, I'm sure you've heard/read the same as well  Yep, googled it and found it. You may be joking but you're right, there might be a little truth to it. However, to quote Eorlund Gray-Mane "Just because something is, doesn't mean it has to be!" (if I remember it correctly), right??
I also think rule 25 can be applied here hahahahaha

guys and girls who think it's so inappropriate and such a huge crime for a girl to play games,
1. Girls who think don't exist.
2. Yes it's a crime. It's in the Geneva Convention.

1. This reminds me of something Robin Williams once said about guys' brains.

No, actually no one ever told me it's inappropriate, only that it's weird. And that's just from my female friends, because all male gamers I know IRL are overjoyed when they meet girls playing video games ;) However, my sister is quite annoyed by the fact that I'm on more friendly terms with her ex-boyfriends than she is. What can I do? I have to talk about Fallout with someone

It's gets funny on other forums, though. Polish has feminine, masculine and neutral verb forms - but even if I write a lengthy post using the form corresponding to my gender, people still answer as if I was a guy. Reading comprehension, much?

I also think rule 25 can be applied here hahahahaha

While slightly better, I can't quite get past the irony that it's OK for you to play games that are bad for your health and body but you don't want her doing it, lol.

At any rate, It's not as though you can't play games and still go to the gym regularly. Both gamers in my household do.

Well yeah maybe you're right I myself work out too but it's still weird to see women playing games, I'm just not used to it, I've seen maybe one woman in my entire life playing games. :D

You're right, most guys are thrilled usually, though some say "Wow, you play games? I mean...you're a girl!". No kidding!! Gee, I didn't know!! :verymad: But yeah it's mostly girls who don't find it suitable. My best friend says "Go out and get a life/bf/whatever" every time I tell her about a video game. So I just quit talking about games to her, and recently I was so thrilled to find another friend from my class (I'm in law school) who has been a gamer as long as I have and still is  I remember when we first met (we had gone along with mutual friends out for coffee) we were talking about Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2, and our other friends were just staring at us like we were speaking in an alien language!! Hahahaha it was actually funny to look at!!

I know what you're talking about when it comes to your language. Greek has the same form as well, and I know it's natural to be mistaken in an English forum where you can't know the gender from context, but to be confused in your own language with such a detailed verbal form? That must be annoying! So far I think I've been lucky when in Greek forums, I haven't been mistaken for a guy, but I know what you mean. Good luck staying calm with that!

Yeah, my girlfriend takes me home when I'm too skoomaed to ride
And she doesn't get all jealous when I hang out with the Blades
She laughs at my knee jokes when no one does
She brings me Khajiit food from Elsweyr just because
Yeah, just because.

And my girlfriend likes melee and archery
She's so pro-Skyrim-independence, I don't think she needs me
Quite half as much as I know I need her
I wonder why there's not another Stormcloak that she'd prefer

And when I feel like reloading
Like all Nirn is falling down

I show up at 3am
She's still up singing Ragnar, and I
See her polygonal face
It takes me away to a better place and

I know that Alduin, I know that Alduin, I know that Alduin,
I know that Alduin's gonna be fried.

I have been playing video games since I was eight and that was uh over 20 years ago.

Normally I do not tell my six, but I will make an exception on this topic, I am female. When people (especially men) hear I play video games, they have to ask me directly if it is true, as if they cannot believe it. When I tell them it is true, there reaction is along the lines of having a heart attack. I find playing video games far more fun than going out and shoe shopping or whatever other b.s. women do. Hell, I cannot stand shopping, not even for groceries.

My family use to say to me "Why don't you go out for a while." I had enough and said, "Look, I don't go out because I don't like going out. I prefer to sit at home in front of my T.V./computer playing a game and having fun. I could go out, but why for? To spend money on stuff I do not need? Average nowadays it is about $50.00-$100.00 just to go out and have a good time with your friends (where I live). Now I can go out and buy a game for $60.00 and have months of fun on that." They finally got off my ass about it.

I am glad I married someone who does not mind my "addiction" to video games and I do not mind his "addiction" to pen and paper games. It tends to annoy me greatly when I hear men complaining their GFs, wives or friends with benefits complain about them playing games. Because that is what you, (we) do for fun and they do not understand it at all. Well, too freaking bad, I say, ignore them and continue to do what you love.

As long as the world of video games exists, I will keep playing them. No doubt, I will die with a controller in my hand and be buried with said controller.

You said it!!!!! This is exactly how I feel when I talkto my female best friend about video games and she keeps telling me "Go get a life/go outside/go party" Well, I don't feel like partying, I still have my social life and will go out for coffee when my friends call me but there are times when I don't have anything planned and I prefer to stay home, even all night sometimes, and just play until I cannot keep my eyes open. Everyone has different interests, and playing video games doesn't make me less of a female than I am. Just lay off!

I never play games when my girlfriend is around, I just can't I would rather have fun with my girl than play games and let her watch. And I don't like girls which play games  I never talk about games with girls, all I do is flirting and you know... having fun...
Once ever in my life I've played multiplayer game with my girlfriend and it was nfs world but I didn't play it seriously, just me and couple of friends had fun of her and we blocked her with our cars when racing etc.

HOLY Hypocrite! You don't LIKE girls that play games? If you mean love games, yea ok I can see that, but video games? I've been a gamer since Doom and my ex never had issues with me playing my games. So, now I'm single and I can play anytime I want to! LIfe is sweet! haha

Oh and plus, female gamers might still be the minority, but oh we are out there and our ranks are growing!

Edit: I agree, video games are my hobby. They feed my imagination and creativity. I also can't stand it when people look at me weird, when I tell them that I'm a gamer! So, you watch soap operas, I game... get over it LOL

I guess they don't understand that games can open soical networks you could never get out in the real world. I've met more people across gaming networks then I would have never done just stepping out my front door, well unless I was some rich snob. :P

My GF is cool with my Skyrim time. She tends to go to sleep earlier than me, since she has to get up earlier during the work week. So I play in the late evenings for an hour or two after she crashes. Works out fine. During the weekends, when we're not doing stuff together, there's usually a few hours here and there where she wants to watch something I don't, so when those times come up I'm cool with her watching her shows and that's when I fit in some more Skyrim time. No problem.

Our cats love it too, because our console is in the area of the house set up for them. They're still kittens so we keep them in a kitten-proofed family room area downstairs. They love when I play Skyrim because for hours they can climb all over me, plus they love to jump on the controller -- usually at the worst possible time! I have to laugh, though it has taught me to save often.
