Gold or Caps?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:14 pm

Hmmm maybe a currency conflict? NCR forcing gold to be the currency when vegas uses chips?

It'd be like the european union, NCR is like the European union wants its one currency, gold, to be the centralized currency like the euro. All the settelments ,just like European countries, the NCR wants them to use gold, like the euro for trade. While some other settlements, like some European countries like Great Britain, want to use their own currency.

Although I'd through in French boycotts and the argument of Turkey joining the EU but that just makes this anology too complicated. Americans know more about European politics than you may think :D Now I'm getting off topic, gold, caps, or poker chips?

Why not just replace all the stuff with things like Metro Tickets,

and maybe even some small direct trading, like certain food for certain special weapons or ammo.

you have to think that this is set 3 years after Fall3, so a brand new idea should come out of this.

Bottlecaps were good for Fall3 but unless another Nuka Cola factory is going to be added into NV then i dont see why they would include this currency myself.

Just whatever you guys do, Please do not bring back the Nuka Cola Quantam nonsense. That took too long and for not great rewards.

Didn't really like the Gold Coins in FO2...I like Bottlecaps...but considering it is Vegas I am cool with Chips.. I'd like to see both, but I don't expect seeing it...

I'm somewhat surprised no one mentioned...

SLOT TOKENS!

They're already a coin and more durable than caps or chips, and besides, we've been off the gold standard for who knows how long. I see gold as being to scarce to be practical as its value would be almost too high for every day purchases...imagine this scenario:

Shop Owner: "Welcome sir or madam, whichever the case may be."

You: "..."

SO: "Err...how may I help you today?"

You: "I would like to buy 100 rounds of 10mm ammunition please."

SO: "Very well. That will be...umm...1/8 gold piece please."

You: "...And how exactly am I supposed to accomplish that?"

SO: "Well, I'm not entirely certain. You COULD buy 800 rounds and save us both a headache..."

You: "No thanks. I'm hardcoe and don't want to carry that much around. I'm hoping to upgrade soon anyway."

Caps are nothing if not boring. Chips are a great idea, but I also like the thought of slot tokens. Different casinos may have had different looking tokens, but remember...each state got a different looking quarter!

No it doesn't, that's a waste of ammo if you are using it as money.

I think caps fit the setting and mood a lot more, so caps. But maybe they could have GOLD CAPS?

And bullets? "I would like to buy THOSE bullets for these ones, please."

How about a New Californian Dollar? Printed and distributed by the NCR.

Meh, people that didn't play the first 2 FALLOUTs wouldn't get it. They really should just stick with caps, it's been in every FALLOUT, why should they change it for FNV?

wouldn?t make much sense, New Vegas is so far as we know not under NCR control but it?s own city state and most likely it?s own currency

I was under the impression that it was. Oh well. Do we know if the game is set entirely in Vegas or will there be other settlements?

There will probably be more settlements, but Vegas will be the main place, and probably the biggest.

most likely Vegas will fill the same roll as the DC ruins in Fallout 3, aka being a focal point of a lot of main story and quests

It's based in the Mojave Desert.

Other than Vegas itself, the area looks quite featureless.

pormo mags was a good idea. I'd vote for that, but this poll is bogus.

Something that is more shiny and glittery. It was quite hard to spot bottle caps on a table between other objects.

unless they could be more freshly produced the amount of intact magazines are to few to make a viable currency, plus when comparing to a big magazine and a small cap or pokerchip the later is a bit more easy to carry.

Plus what sane man would trade away his porm collection X3

I think it rather plays the role of Megaton and Rivet City together...
