Grimhound's PC Bug List (Ever-growing)

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:59 am

Thanks for making this thread, it was sorely needed. Here are most of the bugs I've encountered, compiled from a couple posts I've made here and on the blog:

1. In the crafting menus (I've only payed attention in the campfire menu, it may or may not apply to the others), if I select a recipe that requires me to scroll down on the right-hand side of the menu - the side with the ingredients; I can no longer select anything on the left. Exiting and re-entering the crafting menu fixes the problem until the next time I have to scroll. This one has been verified by at least one other person.

2. The shop menu in the Lucky 38's Presidential Suite doesn't allow me to buy, only sell.

3. Also in the Lucky 38, in the Casino this time, activating the terminal near the boxing gloves pops up a menu with nothing to select (except "close" or something similar). Force-activating the terminal with the console allows me to hack it as normal and it displays a mostly blank screen, which I assume is what it's supposed to do at the point of the game I'm in. Someone familiar with the purpose of the terminal will be better suited to decide how much of a bug this is.

4. When I target Night Stalker heads in VATS - while they're visible, naturally - even if it reads 95%, I miss every time.

1. Major slowdown and stuttering problems (slowdown mostly resolved by putting a better d3d9.dll in the install folder),
2. FFDSHOW incompatibility (resolved by adding an exception in the configuration program),
3. Generic NPCs sometimes spawning noclipped - that is, they spawn unable to move and I can walk through them but can't interact with them,
4. The unmarked “invisible chupacabra” quest being unfinishable,
5. Unresolved Fallout 3 bugs (VATS giving 0% at odd times, crazy physics behavior, etc.)
6. Incompatibility with community programs such as Fallout Script Extender that talk to the .exe
7. A certain gun-toting un-robed character remaining in the launch bay right after Come Fly With Me finishes; also his compatriot in the lab coat responding as if the quest was still unfinished.

Also, using the console, even for stuff like getting unstuck, turns off achievements. Not a big deal though.

Here's some things I've noticed in about 3 hours of gameplay:

-Sunny's dog (Cheyene) eyes were floating beside it's head for the first tutorial missions. After completion they returned. http://imgur.com/iJ1Av.jpg
-Victor, after having talked to him for the first time, stopped "driving" around, and instead was glitching, or teleporting, his way back to his house. Basically he would look like he was standing still, but he was teleporting about 5-10 feet in the direction he wanted to go.
-On my way to Primm, I encountered a random NPC who was also doing the same "teleporting" (for lack of a better word) in the direction she was going. I couldn't interact with her however. She was wearing a white shirt and tan pants, her name wasn't showing up, sadly.
-The deputy you rescue in Primm was floating with his head stuck in the ceiling of the casino across the street from the Bison. This is after I rescued him and told him to get out of there. I could talk to him just fine, he was just glitched in the ceiling some how. After I left that casino, he came out behind me. Thought I'd make mention of it.

Possible bugs, or weird game design:

-Looting the Powder Ganger's West camp, you lose karma. Not sure how it's considered "bad" when they are trying to kill you, but whatever.
Technical issues:

-Quick save and auto save get erased if the game crashes, or you exit the game manually. The manual saves seem to work fine so far.
-When using HDR and AA, white and black squares flash on screen randomly. This is with a Nvidia card (GTX 480). Turning off HDR or AA fixes the problem.

Isn't it possible to eventually become friendly with the Powder Ganger's. I haven't played very far into the game but if that is the case then I don't believe it is a bug.

- If you select 16:9 and full-screen, you can run the game at 1600x900. But if you select windowed mode, 1600x900 resolution is no longer available.

I like this game but it does have a lot of glitches and bugs which are sort of becoming an Obsidian trademark in the gamer community (just warning you, Obsidian).

My list:

FISTO keeps giving me caps every time I tell him I don't want his services (which ends the conversation). He does this after he gets to the Atomic Wrangler. I could probably get unlimited caps from this.

There's an NCR station on the strip (LVB Station? LBM - something like that) and if you go upstairs there's a place where some guards will say "if you come any closer we'll attack" or somesuch. The problem is that half the time you don't get the warning before you're already over "the line" and then you end up with 5 or 6 NCR wailing on you. Why couldn't the door just have a pickable lock on it that activates the guards after you pick it? It's better than randomly getting attacked for walking in to the "wrong area" with a warning that only works half the time. The first time I did it I didn't hear any warning at all.

After I get the beret from the guy in the dinosaur's mouth, I can ask the dude who runs the dinosaur shop to go stand in front of the dinosaur (to get killed presumably). Nobody else in the Novac hotel gives me this option. Is he the one? Later the option went away. What happened? I didn't finish that quest so I don't know who I was supposed to tell to stand in front of the dinosaur. I just thought it was weird that he had this option.

After I got done talking to Mr. House (outside after I left his casino) this girl from The Followers runs up to me and says "Did you bug Mr. House like we talked about?" The thing here is that I didn't know what she was talking about because I'd never seen her before.

The girl in the Vault 21 hotel (the shopkeeper) has a different voice when she says goodbye than she does when she talks in conversation. I want to say her voice for hello is different too.

The interface for the Caravan card game is bad in general and it's confusing to play on top of that. There was a tutorial level for the game, why isn't there a tutorial for Caravan? Why doesn't it tell me on screen that I can use the arrow keys to navigate the cards? It gives me a mouse cursor, which makes me think I should be able to use the mouse to click and drag cards.

When I tell Steam to "verify the integrity of game cache" it always tells me that it has one file to replace but it never does it.

When I click on the mainframe that is supposed to let me upgrade my presidential suite (or whatever your "room" is called) at Mr. House's place, it changes into a vendor interface, but it won't allow me to click any of the upgrades. The menu gets really glitchy and all I can do is close it or try to sell things to it, which makes no sense. No upgrades for me I guess.. :(

I got the King's dog Rex to take it to get fixed. I had a conversation with it and told it to "only attack enemies I attack". As I am wandering around it runs off to attack cavadors! Of course it dies. I talked to it many more times trying to reset it to "only attack enemies I attack" but it would always run off to attack the stupid cavadors. I finally gave up on him and parked him in a store somewhere.

Where are all the prosttutes in the Atomic Wrangler? The bartender says that they are supposed to be there, but I never see anyone inside except her brother, some gamblers at the table, and an insult comic. I can recruit some prosttutes to work there, but that's a quest. Why would the bartender go on a shpiel about how their prosttutes aren't slaves unless they already had some on staff? Why do I never see any customers at the Atomic wrangler either? They are supposed to be popular on Freeside.

The game is super-slow whenever there are human NPCs on screen.

There is a copy of the Wasteland Survival Guide in a campground between Goodsprings and that NCR outpost with the statues. If you don't click it just right or try to move it the book will fall underneath the ground and you won't be able to get it anymore.

Whenever I go back to Goodsprings the Powder Ganger bodies are still sitting there in the middle of town. Doesn't anyone take them away? Can't they rot or something? I found out that they do eventually go away.

The Powder Gangers were shooting me on site until I got to their base. When I got there I was able to pay some guy to get inside and none of the people in their shot at me even though they were supposedly in the same faction. I can't tell if they like me or not - the reputation system is unclear.

* In the beginning when you have the chance to defend a guy by a gas station from powder gangers, I waited a day or so, then went to the gas station and no one was there.

* I've also seen the workbench list get messed up. Usually happens when you mouse over the ingredients when it is a long ingredient list. Exiting and returning cleans things up.

* On the highway towards Prim(?) there is an airplane with two powder gangers but they always die before I get to them - killed by boatflies. I took their stuff, fast traveled, came back and they spawned again and were killed again and I got more free stuff!

* In a broken down building by the first casino you see, a boatfly appeared out of nowhere directly in front of my face.

* In that first casino, people are walking around with their guns drawn but many are walking in place like they are stuck.

* I set my video settings to medium. The video popup is ridiculous - I will get shot before an enemy even pops into my view so I have to sprint towards the bullets in order to shoot something.

Also, I've stolen a crapload of stuff but my karma hasn't moved from neutral. Has anybody been able to get bad karma?

Only bug I've seen so far (aside from the bloatflies!) is that during chargen, when you go to pick the preset face, it rotates instead through the hair menu. I would have rather liked to have seen the preset face suggestions. :sadvaultboy:

Had a few bugs;

-Sound lag, which was resolved via the .exe priority fix

-The residents of Prim (not the convicts) would attack me if I was wearing the goggle helmet ( maybe a bug?)

-I have few issues with the cowboy repeater acting quirky. Like not firing after a reload, then shooting in bursts (lag related?)

-The game freezes for about 30-40 seconds (occasionally 3 times in a row) when traveling in the wastelands and a few times in buildings, but I have no lag issues in towns.

-Had a random encounter with some guy (the one with the bottle cap necklace) talking bout a fight with a girl. But it happened when I zoned into a building and I didn't see a girl.

Just figured I could post here without the need of opening up a whole new thread. This is a very minor and insignificant 'issue' - it's in quotes cause it's not actually a problem, it just bugs me a little. When you start crafting items at work benches or campfires and you see the ingredients list for a random item, and when you hover the mouse cursor over it, a scroll-down sound starts looping.

Yeah, I got that too. Luckily it stopped when I clicked away, but it was a bit disturbing.

Only bug Ive found so far, with exception to all the terrain glitches and NPC's running into walls, and continue to walk into them.

The quest, or "mini" quest, you do outside the Novac Ranch, to find the cattle killer. The Nightkin just stands on the outside of the gate, and just looks like he is breathing heavy and stands there. Doesn't shot them, doesn't do anything. Also, does not even go invisible. I've reloaded a previously saved game, only to find him doing the same thing.

Another time is when I killed the Nightkin before he became visible, and couldn't complete the quest. Talked to the Rancher, and only option available was "not yet" when asked if I figured out who or what was killing his cattle.

I am having an issue in the quest For The Republic, Part 2. During the quest, i was taken captive by the Brotherhood of Steel and forced to remove an NCR Ranger named Dobson from a nearby bunker to prove your loyalty. As it was a NCR quest i decided not to kill him, but instead to talk to him. He removed my slave collar, and was hesitant to believe my story. He didn't believe they were actually BoS members in the bunker. He requested that i follow him to his bunker to discuss what happened in safety. After following him to his camp, he is supposed to talk with me about my captors. Unfortunately, even we reached the camp, he keeps repeating "Now now, calm down. I believe you saw something. Lets just head back to my camp, and we can figure out what it was. Okay?". He will not open a dialog box. What do i do? Is their a solution? Is it a random bug that only happened this one time or does it need to be patched? My most recent save was a fair number of quest back in the chain, and i don't want to have to redo several hours of work.

-Limited songs? I looked in the sound BSA and it looks like there should be more songs on the radio than what I'm hearing. Do more stations get added later in the game? Also, Black Mountain Radio is grayed out most of the time, is it only listenable in certain parts of the wasteland?

-NCR randomly went hostile to me when I went into the Vegas monorail station even though I am accepted by them.

-Q-35 matter modulator has really low res textures. I think some other weapons have had really low res textures too, is this a bug?

Dealing with NPC's regaining health they do use stimpacks, healing powder. As for a rad scorpion that goes to 0 health and kills you thats another bug (no pun intended). At the same time i have seen the legionnaire's health not drop at all when I rescued the gangers, thankfully my ghoul protector could kill them i just ran behind a tent

At the McBride corral in Novac you are given the freeform quest of finding out what is shooting their Brahmin at midnight. The note that you make re. the quest says that you should be around at midnight to find out who is doing it, but after a quest I was coming back to Novac when I saw a cloaked non-aggressive nightkin hiding behind a rock. Killing it revealed that it was the thing shooting the Brahmin and I have its minigun and note to prove it, but the McBrides don't allow me to finish the quest.

Black Mountain Radio does indeed seem to be only listenable while close to Black Mountain. And yeah, I would really hope that there are more songs - the selection is almost as bad as FO3's was. It's not like they're paying license fees for most of these, why the limit?

This happens with me too(especially during conversations) and my computer's specs are better than the recommended requirements... also, the Weathered 10mm Pistol is unmoddable, and when you do try and mod it, the gun turns into a giant red exclamation point.

This quest could use some polish, but it is working as intended. What is happening is that you are waiting for the Brotherhood to ambush you. A squad of 4 Paladins will attack you in this bunker with Dobson. It's a very tough fight, but if you can kill them while keeping Dobson alive, you will gain NCR fame and Dobson will finally believe you about the Brotherhood and leave the area. However, this will Vilify you to the Brotherhood of Steel. Pick your poison.

I noticed a couple more bugs. I'm sure there'll be more. :sadvaultboy:

By the way, is anyone from Bethesda or Obsidian reading this thread or should we stop wasting or time? I feel that is a fair question.

Anyway...

Inside Gomorrah upstairs there's a room that requires a key to open. When I got the key and went inside there was a prosttute standing there. When I clicked on her to talk it said something like "This woman is dead, do you want to examine her?" If she was "dead" how was she standing there looking at me? It then went on to say something about rigor mortis, only it misspelled it "livor mortis". After I clicked off the description the girl walked out of the room. If you don't know what room I'm talking about it looked like somebody was having some scary torture six in there. I guess the girl was supposed to be the victim, but whatever script that was supposed to make her look dead didn't work and she was quite alive when I found her.

The next bug happened when I took a quest for Gloria Van Graff. She told me to go meet some mysterious guy and give him a mysterious package. I went to where she said he'd be (somewhere behind the rcrimson caravan's HQ) and I found him spawned or stuck inside a pretty big rock. Luckily I could still talk to him because his head and chest were sticking out. He said he was supposed to go somewhere after I finished talking to him but he couldn't move inside the rock, so... I don't know if that broke the quest or not. I hope not.

I went back to the Van Graffs and the brother told me to go to Cass, so I did. When I got to the NCR outpost that Cass was at, there was a giant radscorpion wailing on everyone. It killed one of the NCR members and the game said one of my quests failed. I had to reload. Why was their a radscorpion there in the middle of the NCR outpost and why wasn't that quest giver marked "unkillable" by the game?

I somewhat resolved the massive lag I was getting when looking at or moving around NPCs by typing "temo" in the console. I'd still like a proper fix for it though. I never had to do that in FO3.

Started playing today. Noticed these things:

- VDSG Reputation tutorial text: spelling mistake: "peform"
- In the crafting/recipe menu, moving the mouse over the ingredients causes an irritating buzz sound.

And I experienced these bugs that others have already reported:

- When my male character gets hurt, it sounds like the female hurt-sound is playing.
- Cheyenne's eyes floating outside his head during the first Gecko hunting mission in Goodsprings.
- Flashing black/white boxes with AA and HDR on with my NVidia card.
