fact is I never was bored with Oblivion, Morrowind, or Fallout 3 and played them for over a year each or more. With Skyrim I pushed myself to play those many hours trying to make it fun with half the features gutted from it. But alas I still became bored quickly no matter how I tried playing it. In short maybe there are people now who like what they did to TES, but for me TES series has become a lost cause.
It's just 1 sequel in a whole series. Imho you can't call TES a lost cause based on only the latest sequel, no matter how much you dislike Skyrim.
I still love TES. No matter how much I felt Oblivion, Skyrim and even Morrowind were imperfect. However, I play these games with the expectation they will be lacking in some aspects according to my personal taste. That's why I play them with mods. And: I love TES even more so for supporting that modability.
It is all about cool visuals anymore.....end of story. All they want is people to go oooohhh and ahhhh like a fireworks show on 4th of july to buy their games. what they don't realize is it gets boring after many years and you get sick of the oohh and ahh crap without a good storyline as a backbone. Sad as it may be right now I am enjoying ME3 more then I did Skyrim and I was a long time fan of TES. Oh and someone on the thread mentioned more human drama. I would like to know where I played Skyrim for 400 hours on multiple characters and I just saw generic storytelling. ME 3 in the first 2 hours has more drama and emotional charge.
ME is much more immersing in it's story telling and drama, I can agree to that. Storytelling has never really been one of Bethesda's strong points. With Bethesda's games you generally have to make your own story as you go on Beth's quest lines.
But to play a game for 400 hours... The game has to have done at least some things right. I simply would never play a game that long if it had nothing to offer me, if it didn't catch me.
