Have you ever been drunk?

Yes, more times than I care to remember. That point when you've had one drink too many and you feel sick is such a horrible feeling. I became teetotal a few years ago.

I only drink to get drunk. Apparently, I'm a binge drinker. I don't drink often, but I have a 'Go big or go home' mentality. As such, if you ever see a fat guy stumbling down the street yelling out strange questions like where to get more liquor or drugs, it might be me. It's fun.

I've tipped the sauce plenty in my day. I'm in my late 30's now with a wife and kids so those days are long gone. Getting sloshed is more for the youth and credit to the youth who choose not to. I have an old friend who started drinking when she was 17 and 20 years later she still pounds the hard stuff. She also really hasnt matured much since 17. Its like maturing stopped when when she started drinking. Today she still talks and acts like she's still in highschool.

Nope, I've been buzzed but that's about it and that's as far as it'll go. I don't really like the taste of alcohol to begin with so getting drunk isn't for me.

Yes, but not that often. The last time was about a year ago, I don't drink to get drunk.

Of course. I like it. I mean now I've gotten more experience I prefer to get drunk, not smashed. Getting horribly drunk isn't pleasant because you could vomit, fall over and hurt yourself and the hangover is so much worse.

People who drink gave me plenty enough of reasons to hate them and everyone else who drinks in the company of others. I don't drink and if people want to drink they can do it alone where others don't have to put up with them.

I'm 18, have never been drunk and I very much doubt I will ever be drunk no matter the age. And if by chance I wanted to test it out I'd do it as far from other people as possible.

Only a few times, I strongly dislike being drunk. I do like many alcoholic beverages though, so occasionally I get drunk by accident. I've never been completely smashed however.

Going out, getting drunk, meeting people etc. is pretty essential when you first get to uni.

It didn't seem essential to me, I went through all of Uni without drinking a drop.

I'm much more excited in going to plenty of crazily manic gigs rather than going out getting drunk. :P

I've gone to parties and gotten trashed from binge drinking, but I don't do that anymore. If I ever get drunk, it's over time with good drinks that I can appreciate, not the cheap crap at most parties. I do enjoy being sober though so even that doesn't happen often.

It was genuinely a serious question.

Depends where you go to uni I suppose. Where I'm going the night life is a large part of the social side of things. I don't enjoy going out sober, so I have some drinks (I don't get too wasted; that isn't fun). Just to loosen up and have a good time :). For me at least, not drinking would make uni a hell of a lot less fun.

No, no it doesn't. In extreme cases like alcohol addiction it does damage the ends of neurons which can cause memory loss but it doesn't actually kill the cell.

Um... okay. Well people who drinks around others are everywhere. Like my parents at home around their children. Few things I can claim to be disappointed in my parents for but drinking and then having to put up with them afterwards is one of those things.

Nothing wrong in drinking with friends who wish to drink with their friends. It's wrong to drink around people who intend to be sober however.

If no one else intends or wants to be around someone who is drinking then yes said person better do it alone in their room, and maybe not the lights turned off but perhaps the phone instead.

Thats a rather bleak outlook on something that can make a night really enjoyable, unless your talking about alcoholics and binge drinkers then, yeah I don't like them either.
Why would you drink far away from others, thats what reclusive alcoholics do, your best going out with friends for a drink, but never plan on out and getting drunk, go out to enjoy yourself and experience new drink flavours, that way you can enjoy a drink and laugh with others and if you get into a state you know theres someone you know that can help you out until you get back into shape.

Yes people shouldn't be allowed to do things because you don't want them to

it's wrong to stay sober around people who intend to be drunk

I should point out that when I was 18, like many teens posting in this thread, I was dead sober with an inclination never to touch the stuff, though all my friends had been drinking throughout high school. As I grew older, however, I found alcohol to be a great social equaliser, a source of bonding between friends, and though I still don't enjoy drinking per se I can appreciate its effects in moderation (and I will probably never again drink as much as I did in the army and university.) Looking back on it now, I probably came across as a sanctimonious buffoon to my friends in high school - just a word to the wise... :P

Alcohol can permanently kill brain cells.

"Well, you see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it's the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
