And people who are drinking end up being ? I didn't know there was a need to separate the two.

And there's your problem. To use an example from my own typical and not very eventful life: Last Thursday I was in a bar with a friend. We didn't stay very long, from about 21.00 till 00.00. There were about twenty people in said bar. There wasn't a single person who wasn't drinking some kind of alcoholic beverage. During these three hours not one person was drunk.

Not everyone who enjoys drinking alcohol in town with friends is a raving alcoholic who beats his children. Hell, most people who do get drunk often aren't.

Alcohol has been a social lubricant for thousands of years.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel.

The only time I've gotten really drunk was at a LAN party a year or so ago.

I didn't beat up my friends or destroy their computers, as some of you might want to think. Instead I just talked about psychology a lot and probably annoyed my friends who were playing StarCraft.

As for other times, I'll generally only imbibe alcohol when I'm with friends, though sometimes if I'm having a rough night with classwork I'll have a rum and coke.

Oh you have no clue. IMO life doesn't start till you start drinking. And by drinking I don't mean getting completely wasted every time you drink too.

I drink with friends from time to time. As much as I enjoy those nights, I can't say that I really like alcohol. Too much bad can come with the fun.

My parents were out of town, so I invited some friends over. Then more people showed up, then everyone started getting smashed. Long story short - about a $1000 worth of stuff was missing from my house the next day. Ya I've been drunk.

I sometimes drink by myself, but I think it's the most fun in a small group. I had a couple dude friends over one night, and we were playing wow in my room. We had two computers, and some booze. It was a blast.

Young culture nowadays seems to revolve around the idea that partying and having a good time has to involve getting completely sloshed, some even thinking if you end the night sober you haven't had a good time.

What's you're stance on this? Have you ever been out at night for the sole purpose of making yourself intoxicated? Personally, I really enjoy drinking alcohol but not for the purpose of getting drunk, no way. I've never drunk straight spirits or participated in drinking games ever; in my opinion, I find the latter quite irresponsible and not totally cool at all.

Nowdays?
Eh, it was that way 25 years ago.

Yes, I've been drunk.

Finished any hard drinking by about age 24

I used to get smashed all the time when I was still in school, not any more though, which is odd because now that I can legally do it I don't.
I still drink but I don't do it just to be drunk just enough to relax and have a good time.

I've really only been drunk a handful of times, and nearly all of them were a great time. Even better, no matter how much I drink, I don't get hangovers (at least I haven't gotten any yet). Still, I don't really like to drink all that often, and I usually don't drink to get drunk.

I drink from time to time but I've never actually gotten drunk. I guess I just never drink enough. I'll try it out eventually, I'm sure.

Only twice. I love the taste of alcohol or any strong drink for that matter. I tend to drink straight spirits however I drink it for the taste and tend to savour the stuff, so I never get drunk.
The first time I got drunk was at a party, they had lovely red wine and I was really enjoying my conversation and didn't notice the sheer volume I was drinking. My hangover wasn't too bad, I just felt terribly cold, a nice warm shower promptly restored me.

I have never been drunk; when i go out to drink, I have enough alcohol to feel a slight... something.... but not enough that my mental abilities are diminished. I don't really care for beer, i prefer wine and spirits.

Only on days that end with a 'y'.

In all seriousness, I enjoy drinking, but mostly because I enjoy the taste of a lot of the beverages, and not to just get purposefully wasted out of my mind (though that does happen at times).

alcohol is boring.

the best high is health and fitness.

going for a 5km run is better than any intoxicant.

Woke up in a field at four in the morning and a sheep walked past me.
Twelve cops pour into a sports bar I go sprinting past them across a carpark going "yeaaaaaaarrrgggghhhhhhhhhhh" before stumbling, turning round and looking rather confused and they're all watching me baffled.
Trying to "write" my name on the road in pee while singing very very badly.
Got lost in a toilet and was stood poking a soap dispenser looking confused, "rescued" by a group of burly rugby fans that then kept me as a mascot for a while. Great bunch of guys!

There's some of my favourite drink fueled escapades. I've never seen the point in saying "Oh I'll never do that again" because I know I will. Sure you feel lousy in the morning but it's fun while its happening. Oddly I've never been kicked out of a venue though. Came close a couple of times.

Never. I grew up in a family with an alcohol problem and still every day I see drunk folks yelling at each other, beating each other, and in fact the former is happening right now in another room.
I grew up in a notorious slum which is crowded by drunks, bums and the like. I can't live a day without seeing some degenerates spending tax payer money on booze.

I refuse to hang out with anyone who is drunk at the moment. When this happens, I get very hostile and it ends badly. I've grown a real grudge against that stuff. It's poison and it should be wiped out.
I've had the fantasy of filling local pubs' tabs with methanol... That'd teach those degenerates a lesson. Unfortunately the amount of collateral damage makes it a no-no.

Alcohol makes people infant-like degenerates that abandon rational thought and go by their crazy needs, like savages. Alcohol is one great obstacle between us and perfection. Of course it depends on the individual, but as far as I've seen alcohol ruins more lives than it saves.

Nope. Never touched an alcoholic drink, can't even stand food cooked with the stuff. It's disgusting to me, a shame nobody thinks it's possible that I can taste it after it "boils off". Yes, okay, the recipe calls for it because it has no impact on the dish at all. How plausible. Even if I could tolerate alcohol I have no interest or curiosity in trying it. Given the effects it seems like a rather stupid thing to do, to me.

I personally don't drink alcohol.
I drink nonalcoholic beer or wine sometimes, but not often. Mainly because most of it tastes like [censored].

Milk on the other hand...

No. For one thing, I'm too young to legally drink alcohol, so I never have. For another thing, I don't see the point of drinking a beverage that my body treats a poison and that dulls my sense and my mind for no good reason and so I'll never drink alcohol. It seems senseless and I'll stick to drinking soda and juice.
