Have you ever been drunk?

Post » Thu Sep 08, 2011 2:13 am

Young culture nowadays seems to revolve around the idea that partying and having a good time has to involve getting completely sloshed, some even thinking if you end the night sober you haven't had a good time.

What's you're stance on this? Have you ever been out at night for the sole purpose of making yourself intoxicated? Personally, I really enjoy drinking alcohol but not for the purpose of getting drunk, no way. I've never drunk straight spirits or participated in drinking games ever; in my opinion, I find the latter quite irresponsible and not totally cool at all.

I'm guessing you haven't been to uni yet?? :P

I mostly drink because I enjoy the taste, but if I'm going clubbing at Uni I always drink, and we play drinking games during our pre-drinking time. When going out to clubs it's rarely appropriate to drink in a relaxed way like you would on a park bench outside a pub. The evening is generally quite hectic and mad, and relaxed drinking doesn't make much sense in such a situation.

Bah. I used to be a total booze hag. Now I refuse to touch the stuff unless I'm making a fancy cocktail with it. I used to drink maximum amounts, I loved getting wasted. Now I prefer to drink something that tastes awesome, and only to the point of feeling just a little somethin'. I refuse to get past that point now.

I rarely get "smashed" but if I go out I'm almost certainly going to have a few drinks, unless I've got work the next day. It's never a goal for me to get incredibly drunk, but a few drinks will almost always make the night more fun.

Yes I've been drunk, and yes I've been drunk while underage. I've also played drinking games and such as well - although I think that was underage too. I think a big part of it is not knowing your limit and trying to keep up with others - once people know their limit they tend to be better drinkers from what I've seen (plus not hanging around with people that goad you to drink more). There's nothing wrong with getting drunk though - as long as you're safe.
I for one know that I would never get up and dance if I was stone cold sober, so if I'm going out dancing with friends, then yes, there's no way the night would be pleasant if I was sober. Getting drunk doesn't have to mean blacking out, falling over or puking - I'd consider that waaay beyond just being drunk.

I don't do shots any more though, purely because you can down so much alcohol doing those that you don't realise just how drunk you really are until after you've done the damage.

I don't drink to get drunk, I drink and that's a side-affect I'm not particularly fond of. Tipsy is okay, but generally, if I notice I'm getting drunk, I stop. I don't play drinking games, because they aren't fun, end of story. I've played them once or twice, and I drink between the times when I have to drink...so what's the point? My biggest problem is I love spirits and some days they can creep up on me and I'll get blind drunk.

I've had to be sober at a couple parties this summer due to having to drive. I really didn't like it, not only does the liquor help you meet people ( asking for shots, a beer, etc. ) but it loosens you up. Plus, it's never fun to be around drunk people when you're sober.

I've never been drunk or consumed alcohol, either.

And I'm 34!

Oh, and I live in Redneck central. And rednecks are also always associated with the heavy consumption of alcohol drinks.

I've been out for drinks a few times and have never managed to get drunk to the extent I ramble on about anything or stumble over myself and cry on the kirb outside the club.
I have had the "hey I've drank stuff that makes me happier than I just was" kind of feeling if thats drunk ? I say thats the peak of drinking anything after that would be drunk.
On multiple occasions I have been sick but thats only after I've finished drinking and not had anything to eat since starting but then I can go straight back to drinking and not feel drunk

Nowadays? This has been pretty common for decades.

I've never been drunk and I've never been to a party where people pushed alcohol at me.

Yes it will ;). Word of advice; try it before you knock it. Going out, getting drunk, meeting people etc. is pretty essential when you first get to uni. You'll find it much easier to make friends if you've shared some good/bad/funny/generally drunk experiences with them :).

I'm 18 and have been drunk many times, a lot more since I turned 18. Really it's quite pathetic to take some strange moral high ground ("it's not cool!!!) whoever said it was cool? It seems to be people that do not partake in such activities that have the illusion that it isn't cool, implying everyone drinks to be some sort of hardass. The human race has proven countless times it enjoys being intoxicated, drinking can be a fun experience and a social event.
