In the originals you could get 3K exp from killing a pack of deathclaws. :P

Well yeah but all you have to do is keep the level formula and just drop the XP gains :D

I find myself doing stuff in the game at the level cap to make the end game slides go on forever. The stories in the Mojave are more important than my stats, or how fast/slow I level.

I've gone through all 4 major endings... And never hit the level cap. I think the highest I got was 29 with NCR's path - and I haven't exaclty been scrimping on the side quests.

The game is designed for multiple playthroughs, so it makes sense to hit 30 way before doing EVERYTHING because frankly you should not do EVERYTHING in one playthrough. When I hit the cap I beat the game and then started over with a much different character. There's 4 endings remember, and more than 4 character set-ups.

Well, it kind of is a punishment - once I'm capped, any new XP I would have earned goes into the bit bucket - I can no longer "grow" or "improve" myself. There is no reward for solving quests anymore.

BINGO! You Sir, have hit the nail on the head!!

Don't tell me how to play the game I purchased.

I'm not locked in my mama's basemant with nothing else to do but try different "builds" - I got other [censored] to do.

Obsidian didn't want to make the effort and tune their frakking leveling system to the size of their sandbox? Fine, then give us an option that cuts the XP earned by 50%. It took a modder about 10 mins to fix FALLOUT3, this is not asking for much and helps those who can get mods and those who can't - whatever their reasons, which are nobody's business.

OPTION means the restart 'roids are happy, and the rest of us who got to chapter two and realized "Whoa! I'm already capped out?!" are happy. OPTION. As in OPTIONAL. Many peeps in here do not seem to understand the concept of making something OPTIONAL.

All this /= finite math, rocket science, organic chemistry. It's game design 101.

Ignorance is not an excuse: Obsidian knows better.

That's one problem with "sandbox". If you tune the XP to "omg, 100% completion", along with a non-leveled world, then people who don't have the time or motivation for 100% completion won't have enough XP/levels/power to proceed.

Skinnerism at its finest, if you need a reward to play then it's not a game just a chore that you pay to do, like a test lab pigeon pushing buttons for corn.
Rpg's are lazy in this NV has a brilliant story but XP, perks, levels and phat loot are all that anyone cares for, due to the endophin release of intangable rewards.. It's a brave new world.

Optional?
The thing is, a lot of us want A LOT of things, and you know what most of us say including me? Make it optional.
Well.
What happens if there are 200 optional features?
It becomes too much.
I would want an optional feature which allows me to pick locks and hack computers based on dice-rolls and not minigames.
I also want an optional feature to remove quest markers in the options menu.
It's easy to say "well it could be optional", I know I've said it before, but honestly, you can't have too many toggle features.
If you want to customize the game then get it for PC and get mods.

Probably the worst argument i've ever seen. By killing those few deathclaws in boneyard, you got like, 1000 exp? In fallout 3 you get like 50. Yeah. That's like saying that "well, getting money in spore is easier than in new vegas because you get like a million spore currency things when you sell stuff, compared to 200 in fallout".

I have no issues with the current level speed, but I play more to become enveloped in the world than anything. Once I hit 30 I kept playing the game just to keep exploring and doing side quests (and being careful not to finish the game until they patch it so we can keep playing). I have done every side quest in Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and hopefully Fallout New Vegas, but I guess that's just me.

You must not be doing many of the side quests, because I can testify that if there was no level cap, I could likely hit level 42 to 45, maybe even higher, by end of game

I see alot of people complaining about fast levelling. I was only level 16 when I finished the main quest :S I only did 4 or 5 side quests though.

To OP: did you use the swift learner perk?

Yeah, read the entire thread and you'll see it. The OP thinks the game is broken because he capped after taking a level of Swift Learner then scouring the game for every possible side quest before doing the main quest.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1130464-suggestion-for-the-developers-please-dont-alter-the-level-cap-or-skill-balance-in-any-way-via-dlc/page__st__40

Post #57:

Game does have Fast Learner Perk that gives +10% XP, and you can get it twice, for a 20% gain. I stupidly used it (1X) my first playthrough, and reached lvl 30 before I had even talked to House

And in this thread, Post #12:

And btw : I spent a LOT of playing time getting to level 30, doing all those side quests and thoroughly exploring the countryside

There you have it- the game is broken because it didn't prevent the OP from taking deliberate steps to maximize experience gain.

Is there any word on the dlc yet? The level cap increase was the primary reason I bought Broken Steel, but after I hit lvl 30 I lost my motivation to play again. I'd like to be able to level up to 99 and get every perk. It would allow my personality to shine through my character, because currently I can't do all of the goofy things I envision. It is basically the same problem as FO3. I can't strip down to my underwear and punch a deathclaw to death with bare hands which makes me sad.

Lots of people like to maximise character potential, but very few attempt to gimp it.

Anyone knows how the level cap functions with an Int 2 character with no assisting perks?

Ultimately, the level cap is relative to how you play the game...when you hit it in relation to when you end the game is wholly a consequence of your decision and actions.

It may just be that non-"hack-n-slash" RPGs aren't your thing. ARPGs like Diablo/etc or console JRPGs like Final Fantasy, where you can keep grinding your levels (although it gets really long between levels as the enemies get weaker) might be a better fit.

Personally, I don't get the whole "if I can't get more XP / level more, I have no motivation to play" concept. My first playthrough of FO3, I probably had 3 to 4 times the play time after hitting the cap. My characters in World of Warcraft spend much more time at the level cap than they do leveling (like F:NV, there's things to work on after the cap - reputations, better gear, story, etc). Lots of other games, I've happily kept going after the cap.

(Of course, the more linear a game is, the easier it is for the designer to figure out how much XP you can get by the end, and make sure that the cap is very close to that point. I recall some of the Bioware games I've played being like that..... Obliv / FO3 / F:NV being about as far from "linear" as you can get, it's pretty hard to balance the cap with how much there is to do.)
