how do i kill the snow ape goin up to the greybeards?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 4:40 pm

Hm, given that the OP called the troll a snow ape, I'd bet that he neither has a good weapon nor the fire breath shout.
That is indeed an astute observation.

I had the shield charge perk and knocked him off the side of the mountain.

How I killed him was, I went into sneak and used my bow and arrow on him. I kept firing until he got too close to me. I then used the rocks and bounced around on them and kept shooting him. Took a little longer then normal but he died and I did not
I was able to kill him before he got down from his rock using sneak and bow!

by luck the first magical item i found was a bow with fire, disenchant then made two of them with petty soul gems. lydia and i started shooting bows and when he got close she used hack and slash and i used shield and flame spell to kill him. i was level 9.

I made it the whole way to the top by mountain climbing never even saw the path, with a little patience you can pick your way up any mountain.

Run passed him, if he follows you into graybeard territory they'll kill him for you.

My first time through he was very tough. Kept running out of mana, and out of mana pots, then I let him get too close and he 1 shot me.

There is a rock ledge you can get on just before you reach his lair. Use a ranged attack from there, and throw fire at him whenever you can to keep him from regenerating health. He won't climb up on the rock ledge, but he will start to hide back in the fog by his lair when you drop his health enough.

actually you can't just use the "hit twice then back off when snow ape attacks". At low lvl's the snow ape (Am I the only one who thinks that, this should be the official name for these things?) regenerates health faster than you can damage it.

You could get lucky like me. Just as I approached the area he roams around, a frost dragon landed and killed him.

Granted, the frist dragon was far harder the kill than the snow ape was, but at least you get dragon bones,/scales and a soul for killing them.

Run passed him, if he follows you into graybeard territory they'll kill him for you.

Or kite him back to one of the people praying at the little shrines. They will stand up and tank for you.

Hell, no. "Snow Ape" is HILARIOUS. I'm not gonna be able to think of them as anything else, now.

I just kept shield bashing him to stun then slashed. As a sword and board warrior I can actually kill trolls pretty easily.

On my first playthrough, I don't remember specificaly how I beat it, but I do remember coming with a companion named Lydia, and using every consumable item available. (Reloaded several times, until I defeated it.)

On my second play through, I came prepared....

I beat him at level 10, without a companion, using a bound bow. (I found the spell tome in a fort on the way to Ivarstead.) I performed a sneak attack and followed up with some finishing shots. (I did also have the Mystic Binding perk, thus increasing the damage.). The poor "Snow Ape" never even got close to me.

Snow apes are pretty tough, but they get easier to beat on higher levels. Also watch out for the Tree Women and the Flying Ice Piranhas, they will both tear you up! Oh, and give the elephants and the tall people with clubs A LOT of room.

I got past him around level 10 by doing the following. I just waited til he started towards me and then used the Unrelenting Force shout to stun him and ran by him with my weapon sheathed and never looked back.

Oh and for all you making fun of a possible new fantasy gamer. Ice trolls actually do prefer to be called snow apes cause they know the only real trolls are the ones on these forums waiting to make fun of people needing help.

At lower levels, just run like hell. He won't catch you.
If you're on a PC don't forget to press the ALT key! (I don't know what the corresponding buttons are on the consoles.)
