How I killed him was, I went into sneak and used my bow and arrow on him. I kept firing until he got too close to me. I then used the rocks and bounced around on them and kept shooting him. Took a little longer then normal but he died and I did not

With great difficulty. You can simply run past him at low level. I always wait till I'm around Level 20, before I go up there.

Just sneak around it. The slope has a rock that you're able to sneak behind to get behind the 'ape'.

but if you have trouble with trolls or bears, grab a bow or magic and just jump onto a rock that they can't get onto and you can burn them down in the cheese fashion.

You don't have to kill him. You can head to the left before you get into the cleft where he spawns, go up over the rocks, and come back out on the steps without him ever seeing you.

At lower levels, just run like hell. He won't catch you.

Of course, Firebolt + Stagger perk in the destruction tree makes short work of him.

First time the ice troll was easy. I could kill it in a few strokes. What got me was a random snow saber cat on the road just before the troll that I could not sneak around. I developed my skill in saving a game mid-battle with the sabre cat, which works well with other tough fights.

“snow apes” regenerate health very quickly. they are not so tough if you use some sort of fire weapon/magic on them. or just run your a** off!

i find claiming the ogre and just waltzing on by works wonders of course i was 36hours into the game before i did that quest

I summoned a Flame Elemental and then pelted him with firebolts until he ran at me then I ran like hell as Lydia pelted him behind, only attacking after he was much weaker.

to kill a frost troll, like any other troll, you use fire and lots of it.

i always use the fire breath shout first

then flames till we are in melee and then a good sword.

usually works well.

but don't forget to save as you pass the girl on the way up.

Hm, given that the OP called the troll a snow ape, I'd bet that he neither has a good weapon nor the fire breath shout.

The rocks on the left side always worked well for me. I jump on the rocks, shoot a sneak attack into his back, and then I either pelt him with more arrows until he's dead or summon a bunch of fire atronachs down there to occupy him (while assisting with more arrows).

Wish I would of thought of this, that b-turd kept killing or driving me off, even with a companion. But once I got around 25th level I was able to kill him. Now, killing frost trolls (not apes) is very easy, sometimes I let them whack on me while my companion deals with them. (I am trying to get my light armor skill up.)

The first time I came up there I had already used my once a day Nord fear on an Icewraith so after a few tries I decided to use a invisibility potion I had with me and run like the wind past him. Those stairs can be quite though at low level.

not that hard really...

1 u can do is run past it...
2 u can kill it.... hit it twice,,,, do a few steps back...he swings..miss...u go in and hit it twice...and repeat.

Cotax has the right of it. Stick and move. They either do a single swipe or a double swipe then you move in and get a lick or two in. If your an archer the same rules apply. Get nearish and let him begin his attack and while he's winding up back up a few paces and plink an arrow off. Repeat until thoroughly dead.

or you could grab a few paralysis poisons and hack him to death while hes down
