how do i kill the snow ape goin up to the greybeards?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:35 pm

but if you have trouble with trolls or bears, grab a bow or magic and just jump onto a rock that they can't get onto and you can burn them down in the cheese fashion.

Why is good strategy called "cheese?"

i was all alone at that time. archer, low level. snow ape would have been the same name i'd called it. tried to arrow it. but didn;t have the sneak bonus to arrows and didn;t know anything about smithing. it was a perfect inocent char of the skyrim. kileed me a few times, so i found a way to sneam myself around the bastard.
only around level 20+ i came back from fast travel to the mountain top and hammered his white ass. by then i had the labyrintian cleared and knew what and how the snow trolls

This. I used the same strategy to get my Mammoth Tusk. I worked hard jumping from rock to rock. Had 4 angry Mammoths and two giants after me. After much perseverance I got what I needed. And he calls it cheese tactics?

Its "cheese" because there are certain rocks you can sit on top of and never get it.

Well its not very good against a Snow Ape at low levels anyway if you are not using the right stuff. Since they regenerate faster than you can pick at them from the rock.

With great difficulty. You can simply run past him at low level. I always wait till I'm around Level 20, before I go up there.

Level 20? Wow, I think I was level 7 or 8 when I made the trek up the mountain, I just ran around it.

I also had the random cat spawn behind the snow ape. I shot the cat with my bow and trained him into the ape. Epic battle.

its cheesy because you can potentially kill giants who would generally be a challenge to even level 30 chars at level 1.

Some say the troll will end by fire,
Some say by sword.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
If another troll you came towards,
I think I know enough of Nords
To say that for destruction swords
Is also great
And would accord.

I fail to see what's cheesy about outsmarting your opponent. Is it our fault that Bethesda made giants unable to climb rocks and scared of water?

Heh... "Snow ape". It's a frost troll. Kill it with fire if you want... or rush like a mad thing into the Graybeards' fort and let them kill it. They're packing fire shouts. See the Thu'um in action.

Run past it? Cowards! Fist-fighting snow apes is the only way to kill them.

Too easy. Only proper way to kill it is to climb to the peak of the mountain and fall on top of it.

Exactly. In human history, people atop castles would rain boiling oil on those sieging the fortress. Is that cheese? Or is that making the most of your strategic advantage? Tactical masters would call that the latter, 10 times out of 10.

frost troll is a pretty powerfull melee enemy. especialy if he gives you the double claw attack, if the character is lightly armored and no shield, definitely he'll meet his demise very fast.
event with a heavy armor orc i was killed sever times before i understood that i really need to use his special skill (double damage-resistance). yes, he is 1hd double axe fighter (no shield), and thus made him vulnerable to the "ape's" claws. master dificulty and orchish epic armor (at that time) - lvl +18, most of which were made by smithing skill (orc=great smithing)

This is what I did the third time around. I thought she would provide backup.. But she just died within 5 seconds. Which gave me a headstart to run my ass off :P

The first time I used my horse as a monster truck to reach the top. But I fell and died :(

I was only like a level 6 mage using lightning.
However, I had the option to level up so when I ran out of mana I leveled up for a refilled mana bar. I think I still had to quaff a mana potion or two. I forget.

OMG, the horses are like f-ing Jeeps. :o I always save when my horse is tippy-hoofing around narrow rock ledges because we've fallen and died many times. :P
