so how many of you are left playing this game on consoles

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:34 am

We started out with 3 friends on console but two of us switched a month ago to pc en the third guy is also ready to order parts and assembling.

We got fed up so much with the console version (x360) and after seeing the mods being released the final décision was easily made.

I wonder how many are left playing on the consoles, how many switched and how many are planning to switch.

I'm a PS3 player. I don't see a point in buying a whole new computer for Skyrim - my current one does what I need it to, and it plays Oblivion which is a nice bonus. For me, a computer is a more work-related thing. I won't buy a PC just for games.
I have at least four friends who play on console as well.

I sense impending doom for this thread.

I'm on the 360 btw with no plans to get a better PC any time soon. Also the Kinect addition has made the 360 version much more fun for me. That's me. I don't expect everyone to love it but for me it works great and rids the console version of one of my biggest complaints which was having to constantly be in the menus to switch spells, shouts, and weapons.

I play on PS3 and I like it enough. You can tell your giving your PS3 a workout when you play it but it gets the job done. Unless somebody wants to send me money or a pc, I wont be playing it on pc ever.

I play on 360. My lap top is x10 more powerful then the 360 but Skyrim runs like a slide show. Got a little better with some performance mods but still not as smooth as the 360.

Never going to switch. Consoles are my preffered way and I heavily doubt that is ever going to change.

I have always played 1st person games on the PC as mouse/keyboard is the only way I can do them.

I am playing Skyrim on the PC but my system is 4 years old. I've upgraded the video card and added RAM, but the 32-bit windows isn't allowing me to even use the official HD DLC. So I am currently trying to convince my wife that we need a new PC. I'll get it, but she has to figure out what she wants also (which currently looks like a Mac laptop ... cause it's cute).

Water
Real Wildlife
Skyrim Monster Mod
Theres 3 of the top of my head that make skyrim into what it should have been IMO.

Plus theres the unofficial patch that fixes countless issues that Beth either can't or wont fix.

Anyway i left PC gaming behind many years ago when the 360/ps3 came out and have just recently built myself a gaming PC and returned 'to the master race'

Seriously though the consoles get the job done perfectly well for a fraction of the price so i certainly ain't knocking anybody who prefers them, although having suffered through 70+ hours of Skyrim on the PS3 (PS3 gets shafted on many other games aswell to be fair) i'd just had enough.

At least games on the 360 usually work fine and are almost always better than the ps3 alternatives.

Perfectly happy with my Xbox/Kinect combo, but I can understand if you've got the time and money why you'd want to build a massive PC. People have different reasons for playing games on consoles v. PC. PC obviously gives you more flexibility to manipulate the game settings (via the ini), tweak the graphics (hardware/software/streamline memory usage), and use awesome mods... but there usually is a tradeoff. To play a newer game like Skyrim at the highest resolution (one that would look impressive on a 40in + HDTV) you'd need a top of the line PC (or parts) to do so without massive frame rate issues. Though the anti-aliasing, shadow effects, textures, and resolution is pared down on the console to adjust to the hardware, it's still good enough to enjoy on a massive HD TV/projector without framerate issues (I haven't had ANY on my Xbox).

The keyboard is also much better for hotkey efficiency, but with the Kinect I can sort of replicate that (just takes me longer to speak my commands, but I no longer have to drop into menus 90% of the time), but sitting crouched over a keyboard isn't always attractive to a large majority of gamers (console gamers still dominate as far as market share goes and if I were to guess this would be one of the reasons why). A lot of gamers I know, like myself, spend all day in front of a computer. The last thing they want to do when they get home is spend the night there. It's much nicer to melt into the couch and play your games half-asleep.

I haven't come across any game breaking bugs and none of those mods sound appealing.

I had a bunch of mods for Oblivion once. I spent more time trying to stop the game crashing then I did playing it. I don't have time for that.

360 since it came out, have not played a pc game since Diablo 2.
Definitely enjoy the kinect features. I have not real intention of g upgrading g at this point to the next systems (ps4/720). Time will tell, might to get me a pc or a Mac

I've left on console (xbox360) when i had the opportunity to assemble a worthy pc even in my bedroom,'cause i was "forced" to play the game only at night.

The pc version is on another planet with the opportunity to add mods

I haven't come across any game breaking bugs and none of those mods sound appealing.

I had a bunch of mods for Oblivion once. I spent more time trying to stop the game crashing then I did playing it. I don't have time for that.

Perhaps have a nibble of those mods instead of judge them on the "appeal of the name" could have been more constructive before giving a statement like yours above ,don't you think ? this could be seen even as a cynical and disrespectful assertion ,believe me.

I play on 360. My lap top is x10 more powerful then the 360 but Skyrim runs like a slide show. Got a little better with some performance mods but still not as smooth as the 360.

And this is objectively false -technically speaking.Probably your laptop is simply not intended for "gaming" (i.e. don't have even a dedicated video card - or a "modest one" not for gaming- go on the pc section to have more info about those things -even a modest/good pc assembled for gaming from 2006 could be more powerful and efficient than a xbox 360 )

I play on PS3 and while the mods (both using and making) is very alluring I don't plan on moving back to my PC for gaming.

I've been gaming on PC since 1981 (All hail the mighty Frobozz of the great Flathead Empire!!). For decades I played the constant game of catch up to play the latest and greatest games. No more.

The PS3 allows me to play top of the line games from my sofa with a large flat screen tv. My computer is there for spreadsheets and MS Word.

I would love for mods to become available on consoles, but I can live without it. I spend enough time gaming as it is. I have too many responsibilities to delve into the world of mods in an open world rpg. I still need to finish Fallout 3, Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain.

Money isn't the issue. It's time and convenience.

I'll refer to posts #2, #6 and #9 minus Kinect. They say almost everything I wanted to say. Almost . . .

Playing on the Xbox is a choice, not something that I'm "left with" as a curse from the gods. It's not a choice set in stone, however. Who knows what the future might bring? Perhaps my satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the gaming console/PC scene will flip next generation. If consoles follow a Steam-like route and pretty much force you to be online, downloading and authenticating from a monolithic entity most of the time, then they'll lose the greatest advantage they have with me. We shall see.

I would love some of the mods. But. I kick back in the recliner and play on a 55 inch flat screen pouring sound out of a megabuck HT.... So the xbox is staying. I don't have the inclination (nor disposable cash!) to build a gaming pc for this game. Then there would be the issue of a controller across the room, etc.... I will not play sitting in a chair in front of a computer. (I am certain the serious PC folks have their rigs hooked up to their plasmas.)

But I agree the pc version i the way to go if you are set up for it and it works for your esthetic desires in how you want to do your gaming.

PC games have already morphed into this, unfortunately. I nearly threw my laptop out of the window when trying to install Empire:Total War on it (with the actual disk). It forced me to create a Steam account and log in... every time... and then it would cause my game to crash or run poorly. I don't want to be on the internet when I'm playing games. The laptop runs much smoother when I'm off the internet and I can shut down my anti-virus. Funny thing, that was the last PC game I purchased because I didn't like where it was heading.

I only use a small hand full of mods, but they are enough to make to play on the PC.

Female Mannequins for when I play a female. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9131
My PC can't use the HD DLC so I have one mod to smooth out the noses. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=30
One to dress my wife in something other than mining clothes. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10956
Something to make the hair look a little more realistic. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4307
One to make Aela not have a man's face. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9425
One to add real red hair to the game. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6485
One to make the eyebrows match the hair. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=627

For screenshots I also use:
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12525
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10870

None of these make my character god-like or adds supper items to the game. They are basically all lore friendly. But I would hate to have to play without them.

and here is my biggest problem with PC gaming. The few upper end games I have, and they aren't very advanced ones, make you jump through hoops just to play them. Whatever happened to the days of popping the disk in, a 5 minute install bar, and no stupid game launcher that fails more often than not?

I support this thread! I put 100+ hours in on my 360 before realizing buying a gaming PC would be worth it. I dropped 1g on it and built it myself, great learning experience! Skyrim is SO beautiful on a decent gaming PC and the mods are amazing... I could never go back now that I see what is possible... the 360 version looks so poor compared to ultra settings + mods....

Do people really need to upgrade so often? Had my Pc for years and haven't had to change a single thing ever to play every game i have bought.

Maybe it's not so frequent these days. I am still recovering from the days of manually juggling IRQs, config.sys, system.ini; setting emm386.exe parameters to keep Darklands from crashing every time I ran into the Knights Templar.

Paying $200 to upgrade my PC from 4 to a smoking hot 12 MB (yes megabytes) of system memory so I could play The 7th Guest without stutter and dropout. Back when $200 was a lot of money for me.

Most video cards today have 2,000+ times as much memory as my old systems had disk space.

So, I am shellshocked I guess with no desire to delve back into those headaches.

I can sit on my sofa and turn on my HD tv and play fluid multiplayer matches of BF3 that look good. That's all I ever really wanted.

Enjoy your pc experience. I don't denigrate any of it and I'm only a little bit envious.

I only have it on 360 but I haven't played Skyrim in months. It just didn't hold me like the previous two did. Graphically it's amazing but sub-par in most other areas....or should I say 'streamlined'. (Seeing as how that's Bethesdas new catch phrase for TES Skyrim)

Less weapons, Less story, Less/Same old features.

see, a lot of us just aren't willing to sink 1 grand into a gaming computer. Maybe before the economic junk in 2008, but not now.
