so how many of you are left playing this game on consoles

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:52 pm

Did you try it with the headset? I wear Turtle Beach headsets so I don't wake the kids and I can lightly speak into it... picks up my commands perfectly.

Admit it, the real reason you speak lightly into your headset is so that your wife won't hear you and think you're a big geek. :goodjob:

Thanks, man. No hater here either. One of the only reasons I went Xbox was for the Kinect (kiddos) and because almost all of my friends were on Xbox Live. PS3 is great too and I wish I had an excuse to have both consoles.

I have both and cannot think of a good "excuse" to get a PS3 if you already have an Xbox. I like the PS3 controller better and started with PS3 and Oblivion was the first game I played on it. Loved it so much I had to try Morrowind, but you cannot get that on a PS3, so I had a great "excuse" to get an Xbox.

Well, that was the original reason... LOL... so it was an added benefit for sure that it recognized everything I said even speaking in an extremely low tone... didn't help though... she actually leaves the room now so that she isn't totally overwhelmed by my extreme dorkitude. I've officially tipped over the brink... I'm a dork. Hey, but I'm going out for beers with a friend on Friday night (actually, afternoon)... he's a former jock, like me, turned computer nerd. I don't know if that helps invalidate the fact that I've become a dork though.

Aww, there you just went and gave me an excuse to buy an Xbox. My wife's going to be mad at you. :D

I sense impending doom for this thread.

Also, I'm on console. Patches make my PS3 run fine.

I've played on PC before, and I'll never understand the fuss. I'm not so sure there's a mod in existence that can rival the artistry and authentic feel of an actual game, not to mention how game-breakingly buggy they can be on their own. For that, I prefer DLC, which is also canon. And even when on PC, I can't stand K&M; I absolutely detest playing a game and being forced to use them. Dedicated gaming systems with dedicated and specialized controllers are the way to go.

I'm playing on 360, but I'll probably check and see if my computer can support skyrim and get it for the player created mods.

I play on the 360, and have no plans to move to PC until The Elder Scrolls Online launches. Even when that happens, I'll still play the regular Elder Scrolls on my 360, and TES Online on my laptop.

I'm perfectly content with the 360, and have zero plans of playing the regular Elder Scrolls on any other system.

@OP: And despite what you've experienced, I have over five friends who play on the 360, and love it. Pretty regularly we get together in a party chat whilst we all play our different characters and just discuss what we're going through in the game at any given moment. We discuss and lead each other to easter eggs and other in game findings of loot and such, and basically have a blast at this expansive, immersive world that Bethesda has gifted us with.

LOL, I do the same thing it's kinda like co-op in Skyrim, doing the same quests and such at the same time

And it's actually not distracting at all. My friends and I have fun giving each other a hard time when we're screaming profanities at the eight Falmer that just jumped one of us. lmao.

Once we even had a situation where three of us were fighting Giants, and all of us got launched in low-orbit within five seconds of each other. We had a pretty good laugh over that. :D

figure out how to hook it up to a controller (I use a keyboard and mouse all day at work, and I am not a good typist -- I have no intention of using a keyboard during my "fun" time). I tried hooking a 360 controller to a PC once for Oblivion and I spent several hours reading the UESP and tinkering with the ini file to make it work better but the controller still would not work half as well as it did on the 360 -- there was no way to play only with the controller, you still needed the keyboard and mouse to open containers and stuff and I don't get along well with keyboards and mice.

That's because it didn't natively support a controller and neither did Win XP if I remember correctly (which is probably what you had back then). FYI that Skyrim has native support for the 360 controller, just plug it in and go. In fact you actually have to turn *off* controller support in the options if you don't have a controller. LOL

I am sure pc is awesome display and I long for mods. I can play on my laprop at medium settings ... Sometimes Will get a new one eventually to run Skyrim.
When I have the cash and the time and patience to make it work.
For now it is nice to hit play and then just play the game. No steam, no direct x, no million adjustments. Just play.

I'm playing on Xbox and have had the game since early December and I still play this game almost every day with no bugs. I don't plan on switching to the PC version.

Long time playstation gamer ( ps1 ps2 & ps3 )
My laptop is for music and browsing only and while im aware that skyrim with mods on a high end pc would be more enjoyable, the console version is still hugely enjoyable.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't devolved into this vs that by now. Milk and cookies for all involved.

I always played these games on PC for the mods and I do miss that aspect. But my computer struggled badly with a Modded FO3 and I didn't want to go through that again. If I do change back to a PC at some point I am really going to miss the Kinect. They integrated it so well with this game that I would really hate to play without it now. It's honestly like a different game for me now. But I do know how cool mods can be once you get the hang of how to use them properly. Graphic, housing, gear, companion, and quest mods were always my favorites.

I don't have any shouts in my Fav. list I just have to say it in english and my toon belts it out, I would assume magic works the same as weapons open your Fav. list highlight the item to be assigned and say " assign sword"( for example) from that point on all you have to say is "equip sword" and it will equip to the defalt hand( right) if you want something different in each hand you have to say " equip left dagger " and "equip right axe".

Oh so I have to have the item in my fav list, highlight it than say it? hmmm thats kinda stupid imho I mean it would be faster to just open the fav and click it to equipt it instantly compared to hoping Kinect understands you or doesn't lag to much but than again same can be said about Shouts, I say it in dragon tongue so I have to hold RB than say it and even than half the time it lags so bad it won't register my words anymore, even if I do switch to english :/ so many bugs

Once you do assign though it's awesome! I rock 9 different weapons to play with while in combat , I don't use the dragon tongue shouts ( I just can't go that nerdy ) The quick equip isn't that much different then the quick key ( left d-pad,right d-pad ) but you can have more of them like PC, and you can mix and match at will, like changing my axe out for a dagger or going from a great sword to a sword and shield and then to a bow in a matter of seconds  all the while barking out shouts as fast as I can.
As far as understanding me it is a little difficult due to my accent( my province we sound irish ) but I just try to pronounce as best as I can, but I'm not experiencing any lag, it's quite fast from my experience so far, maybe you need to calibrate you kinect?

I was/am a long time (years and even lifetimes for some) console Atari - Nintendo - Xbox user. 6 months ago I started researching the parts, for a PC. Being out of the tech loop for so long, I could barely turn one on any more. I had built one before, but that was 20 years ago. I assumed it was still a "Tab A into slot B" construction...It was.

It is used not just for gaming. It replaced my laptop, DVD player, Stereo system and my Xbox. I use the same old Plasma TV, as a monitor. I use an Xbox controller. I installed The Witcher and quit playing after an hr. My wrist cannot take playing games with a mouse. And the keyboard is just a pain in the ass.Luckily there is a software program called Xpadder. It has allowed me to play The Witcher, Morrowind and Oblivion, on the PC now. Without that, I would have never been able to play TW and it allowed me to install the classic games, I so loved.

I was attracted by the ability to install mods. But I found that what I really enjoyed, even more, was creating my own stuff. Now if there is a house my current needs, because the ones in-game are not fitting...I make one. If there is a follower, I see my current character with and the game doesn't provide them with that type... I make one.

It's not just about having a PC for gaming. It's a lot more than that. Being able to install mods, and more so, create mods is a hobby. I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on gear for hunting and fishing. The $1400 I have invested in this set up is a fraction of the cost. Divide that cost over the months of entertainment I have already gained from it, and the daily average is getting smaller and smaller. Besides I was looking to replace that home entertainment stuff anyway.

Given all of that, the PC was a cheap move. And a bountiful addition.

EDIT : The Kinect ting is nothing new to the PC. They created that to act as a function, to help the end users in the Business world. They just let it bleed over into the Xbox. That technology is available for the PC as well. It will eventually replace the mouse for the average user. Just like you using your finger to navigate a pad.

It's not a fad or a gimmick. That stuff is the evolution of how we interact with our games and PCs.

Just in the Fav. list and assigned, once that's all done you don't even need to open the Fav. list unless your changing clothing for Rping purposes. I think it was here in this topic( pretty sure it was here) someone said that they use the shell head set for making voice commands and perhaps the normal head set would work as well. This would help with understanding you and making sure that your heard, the kiddies are up so I cannot test until they go to bed but it sounds plausible.
I sit all of 3 feet away from my kinect when playing so all I need to do is speak in a loud whisper and it picks me up, proximity to you speakers can effect the performance as well, I keep the TV at a comfortable level that I can hear it but NPC conversations don't set off commands and it doesn't over power my voice.

Trust me. Once you do it and use it. You won't think it's stupid. I didn't like the "feel" at first, but the first time I started using the commands in combat I wet my pants. Now, I see that little inconvenience for what it is... literally insignificant. You won't have to go into the favorites menu again (that's kind of the point) unless you want to reassign to something else. As for the dragon shouts... the advantage of having them (you don't have to use dragon tongue) is that you can call on any of them at any time, you don't have to go to the menus scroll through your shouts, then assign only one to a button. Me? I actually have used the shouts less because the other forms of combat have become so interesting to me. But, with my mage I only have the first level of Unrelenting Force... once I get all three I'll start using it more. I also want Disarm again (I loved those two with my fighter build... felt like a muscular Jedi in heavy armor).
