How to be a moderator?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 11:59 pm

You get to ban people, everyone fears you, and you get to share a bunk with Rohugh (this is not always a benefit).
I thought there was money involved, maybe I'm wrong.

Moderators are volunteers. I think sometimes they get free swag, but nowhere near enough to justify what they do.

Aye, for the most part we are just unpaid forum janitors, cleaning up the mess and get [censored] for it

What are the benefits of being a mod? (not that aspire to be one, just curious)

You get to do lots of work, clear up after spammers, get insulted by other users and have to behave, at least comparatively speaking. Oh, and you get pestered whenever there's a problem, and people like me go "<_<" at you a lot.

Wow, I never realized how bad it is to be a mod. These guys must either be super nice people, or are willing to go to great lengths to have some degree of power over others. :P

It's invitation only. Some of us (me ) will never be moderators because we are mean to people

Yes you did, and the next time we consider new mods (probably in 12+ months) this incident will be at the top of our list.
Well I don't care of being a Forum Janitor so jokes on you!

But why would you even want to be a mod?

Their world (read; basemant) is a world of darkness. Nothing but the endless screeching of the hamster wheels. Nothing but the smell of your own built up waste. Only the feel of the chains holding you to the floor. Only the endless flood of trolls invading the forum.
It is a dark duty against a relentless enemy. This enemy does not sleep, it does not wait, it does not show mercy. It will stop at NOTHING to destroy this civilised forum and leave only a barren wasteland. The moderators stand alone in the dark against this evil tide.

On the plus side, you get phat loots

You challenge one to a duel. If you defeat them you inheret their titles, powers, and second life lands. Note, though, since you are the challenger, they get to pick the weapon and set the conditions. All I can say is don't challenge HD as he'll harsly defeat you in a banjo duel.

To be moderator, you must see what can not be seen.
Know which is not known.
Think the unthinkable.
Only then will you be able to lock threads.
May your path be clear.

There are few hard requirements for being a mod. Mods do need to be at least 18, and it's uncommon for us to consider someone who has been here for less than a year.

Sometimes we look for people active at certain times of the day, or in certain forums, but these are secondary issues. Really, we're looking for people who have a positive impact on the forums - they're helpful, they follow the rules, and they're not a nuisance.
I hope my memory aren't wrong about this, but wasn't BootySweat a candidate who become a mod even if he hasn't been a member for a year.

This, I have one warning so far for telling a racist joke. So I doubt (Or even want) I would be a moderator.

But here's a tip: Don't post threads like this as it pisses of Lord Todd Howard of Maryland.
I doubt Lord Todd cares

Don't you get all Bethesda games free?

If that is true, is it only the Game Studios productions, or all published games?

Well I already did that so... I guess I messed up my chances...
Did what? :whistling:

Never make me a mod, you will regret it
Oh... well then. Takes Frodo's name out of the hat.

You challenge one to a duel. If you defeat them you inheret their titles, powers, and second life lands. Note, though, since you are the challenger, they get to pick the weapon and set the conditions. All I can say is don't challenge HD as he'll harsly defeat you in a banjo duel.
HD is bad-ASS on the banjo. Fortunately, I chose to duel him with kazoos, I kicked his ass.

To be moderator, you must see what can not be seen.
...
Mostly it's that you can't un-see what has been seen. Or un-read what has been printed in RANDOM ALL caps.
