How the oblivion did Skyrim get game of the year...

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:12 am

Skyrim is an amazing game and is the best RPG (or action RPG, whatever you wanna call it) I have ever played. It has dragons, open world, good dialogue, combat, etc. However... Many people (such as myself) cannot even enjoy the damn game because of all of the technical issues with the game. It's very irratating because I have to quit my favorite game because I am sick of the game breakers. It irritates me that so many people (including Bethesda) downsize the fact that there are this many issues with the game. So how the hell did Skyrim get so many GOTY awards even through all of the glitches and bugs? I am a console gamer and with that being said a good deal of you (PC users) will immediately disrepect me and my grievances. I'm pissed off because so many people have game breaking issues with their copy of Skyrim. The public seems to be the beta testers because obviously Bethesda is too cheap to do it themselves. So us console users (I'm on Xbox 360) have to watch for the fix/break patches that are totally ineffective.

I quit Skyrim as of yesterday. My game freezes every less than 5 minutes. Dragons usually do not attack me. If i exit Jorrvaskr, I am faced with a solid-colored screen and have to open my map (which I cannot see) and move the cursor around and spam A to fast travel out and wonder where the hell I'll end up. The lag is unbearable. My quest to fix the White Phial is broken. I cannot even continue the civil war for the Legion because the female commander chick (whatever her name is) has no dialogue options to continue the war (Rejoining the Pale). Sometimes, dragons' textures do not fully render. Yesterday, I was walking through the woods and several of the trees were just two perdendicular 2-D images of low resolution (extremely low) trees. If you get decapitated and your game loads, your character's hair is weird (in the back of the head if your hair is long) and they have their pissed off combat face until you sign out or turn off your system. Followers will disappear if you do not keep them on your ass constantly. Farkas would attack me every time we fought something (even trolls). Sometimes I do not absorb dragon souls. Sometimes I cannot shout even though it is enables and it proves to be fatal. When I walk, run, or sprint, there are times when my character will stop and go a bit more (as if something is pushing against him).

These are the issues I am having and all I can think of off the top of my head. If i remember more, I will edit this post and add a new paragraph listing them.

Please keep note that this post is not to troll, but to vent. I'm just pissed off because me and so many others have received a deffective product. Sellers of a product are supposed to make it satisfactory to the consumer and if they sell a deffective product, they are obligated to fix it. The patches only fix a few issues but breaks even more.

Simple, critics play a game for a short period before judging and the first 20 hours of Skyrim are in freakin credible. The issues don't start until you get off the beaten path.

Because they just disregard the bugs and look at the actual game itself. I'd say Skyrim deserved it looking at the other nominees, but that's my opinion. I've yet to run into bugs in my copy and I feel for those who have broken copies and are unable to play the game without it breaking.

Maybe soon Bethesda will fix the whole problem...

I guess because there were no other games good enough to be GOTY than Skyrim, excluding maybe Batman Arkham City...

Well thats what you get for playing on a [censored] console. Get a PC and enjoy the game properly, with mods too.

Read his post again. He is playing on XBOX.

@Topic: I think another problem is that even consoles aren′t one spec nowadays. I remember playing Morrowind on XBOX and there were issues with crashes for XBOX with Samsung CD devices...Perhaps your problem is getting in the same direction?

But of course, a solution should be there.

Regarding not absorbing dragon souls, this is because the dragon is a respawning dragon and you already killed him before. Sometimes dragons just don't attack, it's not a bug.

But for some of the other ones, the really serious problems, to me it sounds like the GPU on your Xbox may be in danger of burning out. Do you have the thing well ventilated and free from dust? Also be sure to install the game like EF recommended.

I think there are quite a few PC players who won't disrespect you - me among them.

The reason is, despite what you may think, the PC is not free of issues. There are plenty of PC players that have similar, or worse, problems.

Have you gone to this forum: http://www.gamesas.com/forum/179-skyrim-hardware-and-software-issues-subforums/. This is where complaints are listed, and help may be found. Go to the link and select your platform.

There are long lists of players in all three platforms that have issues that make the game unplayable. You just have to start looking for help there.

GOod luck

A lot of people like the game.
In some cases a lot of people voted for skyrim to be goty. In many cases the number of those votes were higher than any other game.

That's how

"GOTY" carries no value anyway, who cares? All it does is get developers to make a GOTY edition and the title goes to the publishers that generate the best revenue for critic sites through ads. Game critics became an unreliable joke long ago, just look at the consistent 8+ scores for CoD games despite being exactly the same since CoD4.

It's GOTY because none of the other games are even remotely as open or diverse as Skyrim is.

You don't judge Skyrim on it's own for the GOTY award - you judge it against the competition.

Skyrim has no competition - it's the best game on the market. Period.

There's no GOTY clause stating "The GotY must be a sandbox game. It can be absolutely terrible, crash every 3 minutes, and steal your credit card info, but if it's the only sandbox game then it wins"

It's a good game sure, but I wouldn't say it's the best of this year.(If beth had delayed release and actually finished it, I think it would be a strong contender though. Probably would've been in the 2012 lineup though)

This. What do the bugs have to do with the actual gameplay?
And no doubt this will get patched.Morrowind was the buggiest game ever with multiple game breaking bugs and crashing to the desktop every half an hour or so,but it works just fine with the latest patch.
