Is it just me, or is the concept of a Soul Gem gruesome?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:23 am

i`ll just stick him on the shelf in my house and look at it as it swirls about stuck forever.

I'd find a way to escape. I'm just that kind of guy..

Why in a barrel, expose them proudly in your house.
My character has far better things to expose proudly!

When you capture NPC souls you could enchant items with their names to remind you whose soul is powering them -- Nazeem Muffle Boots, Mjoll briastplate, Sven Bow, Lydia Battleaxe ...

Doesn't work for bandits.

Though, I hope they like being one with some armor.

It reduces repetetive dialogue too by adding a line!

It also seems to attract jealous glares...

Hope no SPOILERS in this:

Possible Spoilers!

Wasn't the guy trapped in Azura's star doing years of research to try and prolong his own life/conciousness? And he broke the star trying to warp it to that effect? So whatever happened or was seen during that time was an exception to the norm?

ie: It might not normally work that way...

Yes, it is. That's what makes soul trapping so cool. Your sword doesn't just have a certain level of enchantment, there is literally a Golden's Saint's SOUL INSIDE OF IT. That's pretty epic.

It seemed to work that way in Daggerfall, plus when the weapon broke, they took sweet vengeance upon ye.

I shudder at that mage considering that they considered swallowing a soul gem.

Some even use human souls... This is just, overwhelmingly evil. I see why Nords don't trust Magic now.

Since there is no such thing as a 'soul', nope, it is not overwhelmingly evil at all. You should probably have more of an issue with actually killing people, but even then, it becomes a philosophical question about when it is technically 'okay' to kill (as in self-defence for example) :)

In the Elder Scrolls, souls exist.

Whether it is immoral or not...it's to the capturee's benefit anyway. They'll live on forever as a magical weapon, whereas they'd be a useless corpse if not for me. Or they'd be absorbed in Aetherius.

They'd be able to feel, hear, and see around them as well, no matter the object they become.

Gruesome? well lets see now.

The Enchanting Table looks like a Quijia board. The illusion (on book covers) insignia looks like very much like the numbers 666 as well as the Mysterium Xarxes looks like a book on Demonology. The Daedra are demons. You can harvest Human Hearts. There are Witches Necromancers Altar tables for Human sacrifices .

So I guess there are many Gruesome elements in this game. Just what every young gamer needs hey Bethesda?

I didn't say that? What I'm saying is that because it's rated M, Bethesda shouldn't have to worry about kids.

Yeah. They're a business. Businesses tend to care about money. Their lousy customer service is evidence of that though, not the ~gruesome~ nature of the darker sides of magic and the effects it may have on kids who shouldn't even be playing this game anyway.

Only Black soul gems and Azura's Star can trap human souls.

Actually Azura's star can't...the corrupted version can; it becomes the Black Star at that point.
