Lost Season 6 Discussion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:16 pm

Was anyone else seriously dissapointed by tonight's episode? It felt like about fifteen minutes of substance stretched out over an hour.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed that we didn't get to see anymore of the story that's happening right now, but at the same time I did like being able to absorb everything that Jacob and his brother have been through. I enjoyed the episode a lot, so until I see the rest of the series I won't decide whether this pissed me off or not. :P

Finally some answers to fundamental questions! Still, I found it annoying that they never gave MiB a name. Not only that, they teased us with the silly "oh, but I only thought of one name" line. And of course they still failed to explain what the light is and where it comes from.

I thought last night's episode was good. It answered a few important questions, but there are so many more answers I want to know.

I thought it was quite clever how they didn't give him a name. I've written a couple short stories in which the main character is never named, and it's fun to come up with ways to get around it besides the old "hey, um, you! Yes, you, over there, the one I'm pointing to, yeah, you!"

The "light" I figure was one of those things you are just going to have to suspend disbelief about, and take it as an explanation in and of itself.
Spoiler
I'm not really too concerned about the more "mystical" explanations of Lost..... like was their mother some kind of witch? Demi-god? I mean, Jacob was mortal till he took on the role, you know. How did the man in black have all that knowledge? "He had it inside of him since he was born"? Well, that's explanation enough for me, to an extent. The more mundane aspects of the show, however, like why so-and-so did what, when such-and-such happened, THAT is what I want answered.

I am kind of thinking though.... because earlier on Jacob was like, "this island is keeping evil trapped", but then in the flashback, they weren't keeping evil in, they were trying to keep evil OUT and keeping the light and goodness in (it's light and goodness so..... who knows where it came from, but it's light and goodness!) When the Man in Black floated into it, did he corrupt it? Because now they are trying to keep Smokey off the island.

I did not think that there was enough characterization done in the episode for us to think that the mother loved the man in black more than Jacob (as Jacob claimed) and they really didn't do enough with MIB's intrinsic knowledge, it seemed more like, "you had the tendency to lie while Jacob had the tendency to obey" kinda thing.

They kinda sorta set up Jacob's and MIB's "game" of whether or not people are inherently good or bad when they had their conversation in the village, which was neat, but why did they even start doing that in the first place? What made Jacob so adamant about keeping MIB on the island, when really his only true duty was to protect the light, unless the light got corrupted or the light is inside MIB and really MIB is a nice guy even though he looks like a jerk, even though their "mother" said, "never go in there, it's worse than dying" so..... yeah.

Got some overall questions, but the detailed answers we really don't have.

I also really hate how they are always like, "any answers will only give you more questions." It's like, uh.... we're on a DESERTED ISLAND there is only ME AND YOU AND SOME BABIES what else am I going to do???? Huh? Turn over some stones? Poke the fire? Yeah, how about you tell me what the deal is!

I am totally behind MIB's actions, especially when he said, "I don't know because YOU NEVER TOLD ME." It's like, uh, duh lady, c'mon!

But I think it means (hopefully) that the writers are at least somewhat self aware of how they answer questions.... or rather, how they don't.

Finally. I was waiting for MIB to be a good guy and Jacob is an imbecile. I think I got my prize not jumping on conclusions like labeling someone evil with little knowledge. I also felt better that I am on the same wavelength with LOST writers. Reading comments bashing LOST all over web and seeing people still misunderstood basic things, writers must be feeling accomplishment. :P

I totally got what I want. Now those people obeyed one man without knowing why would have felt pretty dumb. Jack needs to watch this episode so badly. :P

Don't take "simply lead to another question" phrase in an absolute way.

Asking where mother comes from is very easy to answer. From her mother's belly. This will simply lead to another question but why ask? (You may still ask it, there are some popular explanations: Adam&Eve and/or evolution... :P But I doubt any answers would be satisfying, because we will still be asking why/where/how.)

On the other hand, we will get the answer about origins of black smoke and light. Jacob is an imbecile. I think it will be Desmond, who goes into light and figuring things there without getting affected by side effects. (we will be with him, yay!)

I think, Widmore represents greedy mankind. Jacob is an imbecile.

I hate to explain LOST, because it is something I don't fully understand myself. I don't feel bad about it, because writers are not giving key elements to reveal the truth. Jacob is an imbecile. We have Old Boy, Sixth Sense and many other stories where whole truth reveals itself inside 30 seconds. Lost has more than 2 hours left.

Now it is funny, what if Mother is not crazy. Maybe she was right in her own story. Jacob is an imbecile. Maybe we would think she was right about her doings in an episode devoted to her story. o_O

I have faith in LOST writers. They will answer right questions not all. Like what happened to some animals on the island. What happened to Vincent, polar bears, the horse Kate saw and cows? We know what happened to the dharma logoed shark, right? :P

PS. Jacob is an imbecile.

Now this is my kind of topic :D, LOST has been my favourite TV show since it released Season 1 at 2004.

Anyway, I don't really want to share my theories about LOST, because I reckon you'll attack my theory with yours. You might not, but I don't want to take any chances, and I'm a little shy lol. Anyway the latest episode was awesome, I love the ancient history about LOST! Seriously can't wait for the last episode, but I'll be a little sad that it's gonna be the end of LOST :(

So, does anybody else think that the season finale can't possibly answer everything? There is no way that three more hours of screen time (and that includes commercials) could possibly answer all the quesitons. Call me a pessimist, but I'm just calling it right now. We might get the basic skinny, but it's not even possible at this point to wrap up everything (like they claimed they would- liars!)

On a positive note, though, tonight's episode was very good, even if it didn't actually answer all that much, but rather give a small portion of the island's history.

They might do a two hours special for the final episode.

I like Jacob -- He was naive and trusting to a fault, but that gave him the innocence that made him the "good" one who can protect the Island, while his brother is his opposite, less compliant and more inquisitive and ambitious and untrusting of what he doesnt know.

They might do a two hours special for the final episode.

That 3 hours includes the 2 hour finale. There's one episode next week, then a recap episode, then the finale next sunday (this is all the US schedule).

So I feel like this episode was entirely a set-up for next week...

Although I guess some exciting stuff did happen.

Was a really great episode I thought.
I like how Jacob told Jack that "now you're like me."
So....
Super Saiyan Jack now? Pretty much.
Glad to see Miles, Richard, and Ben again though. Missed em.

Yeah, I mean I agree that it was a good episode, but I guess I am just grumpy because I'm anxious for the finale. :(

I agree, but they did do a good job setting it up.

I'm a bit disappointed in Widmore's role though. The whole series they were trying to tell us he was the big bad guy, then the MiB shows up and Widmore is completely insignificant.

I really, really hope they didn't just..play Richard off like that. He better not be dead. =/
Richard deserves a better sign off then like..4 episodes where he's no where to be found and then the 2nd to last episode, bam, he has 2 speaking parts and then just faceplowed through the forest by the MiB.

The Richard episode was a great peak into the past of the island. I like how they implied that its been around basically forever. I see Richard helping Jack become the new Jacob.

Partially called it :goodjob:

Spoiler
Jack stepping up was pretty obvious- they were setting it up for a long time, him "stepping into the shoes" of Locke. Though it would have been cool to have a bit of a twist at the end with that.

So, glad Jacob explained how some names get crossed out. It's good to know that not all of those people wound up dying.

And Widmore got what was coming. I'm glad that Ben shot him. That's probably one of the few Ben actions that I endorse completely.

I'm sure there's some other stuff, but I'm mostly excited waiting for the finale. It's been a good run, I think.

Also, I plan on watching the Jimmy Kimmel Live after, the commercial said he'd have a lot of good stuff.

Although last episode was pretty awesome, next week is the finale...and I don't think it'll be as awesome as like 5 years of anticipation has been saving up for.

Do you know when the actual episode airs? There is (I think) a total of 5.5 hours of Lost coverage but only 2.5 of it is the actual episode.

In Canada, at least, there's 3 hours of lost. 1 hour at 7 for a recap episode, then 2 hours starting at 8 that are the actual finale.

That's probably something like it will be, except I seem to recall someone saying that the episode will be something like two and a half hours? I remember there being an extra half hour somewhere in there, wondering how that will work out into the timing.... but yeah, I can't wait, and glad it's on Sunday so I don't even have to wait a whole week :D

Thanks for breaking it all down.

I'm excited for the Jimmy Kimmel appearance too.

Heck, I'm excited for the whole thing. I remember watching the first episode for the first time....

The ending of Lost is really like closing a major chapter in my life
