Some dragons just fly around other leaves during fight, had one who attacked an village even landed a couple of times I and the guards got it's health down to half and it left again and never came back. More common they attack some other target and might get distracted and move on.
Hard to sneak attack an flying dragon unless it's attack somebody else, usually it just move

Dragon Ai is very inconsistent. Sometimes, they'll be kinda smart, but most of the time they will do stuff that's really stupid.

Try playing it on Master difficulty like I do and you'll chase the Dragon from Whiterun to Rorikstead.

Due to me knowing how games work on a mechanical level...theres nothing sadder than a dragon circling helplessly overhead...thuuming itself silly due to me being in a narrow canyon that its big fat 3D model cant fit into.

Eventually I just give up and wander off and never see the dragon again.

CLEARLY something is wrong here!

Yep, your tactics are wrong. The right thing to do is to stand in the open so the dragon has a place to land.

i'm pretty sure also a real dragon (if they existed) wouldn't fit in a narrow canyon, I don't see the problem...

I'm playing on master and I kited a dragon from Western Watchtower to Whiterun during the siege. Was epic.

And to people complaining about dragons being too easy, raise the freaking difficulty.

Main is a Level 18 Archer and he has 4 sightings, 3 of which ended in kills. The other one flew away. 1 of the sightings/kills was because I stumbled across a dragon lair in my travels.

Find dragon stones. First off they all have a word wall, second they respawn, third the stones are everywhere just explore the whole map.

By level 20 I had about 15 words and about 25 dragon souls and that is mainly because I found quite a few dragon stones

I have killed around 30 dragons and have accepted that I have to decide whether finding flat ground/backtracking is worth the reward of crippling my carry capacity and adding a soul.

Moar skins for dragonbone mod plox.

Need a reason to keep crafting dragonbone on my characters.

At low levels, dragons do not necessary aggro unless you managed to hit them with arrows or magic in the air.

Dragons are frustrating. Really. I really love about everything else about this game though. But seriously they spend so much time on them, why are they just mediocre?

/frustrated rant.
Wait till you see horses and trolls successfully killing a dragon. Not to mention those nasty Forsworn Briarhearts insta killing one with finishing moves, too. :o

Wards. Resist potions. That shield perk that blocks it (apparently even without that you can block it somewhat). Any sort of offensive shout seems to interrupt the blast too, though they sometimes just launch another instead of flying off.

Wait till you see horses and trolls successfully killing a dragon. Not to mention those nasty Forsworn Briarhearts insta killing one with finishing moves, too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a deer kill one. That or it coincidentally keeled over from someones poison/bleeding damage/fire damage (It was a seven or eight way fight in a clustered zone north of Whiterun).

It came down to me and the deer though.

Dragons appear much more frequently when you fast travel, my old character had one very frequently as I always fast travelled but my new on never does and there's like a quarter of the dragons

I have been wondering whether I need to have a ranged attack for dragon aggro. I am playing a character that I wanted to build towards the paladin concept. Resto, heavy armor, speech, and two-handed and nothing else really.
This has not been an issue in dungeons but Im not attracting much attention with the dragons. Should I scrap the RP concept or will this not be an issue later on?

I would think you could still role-play it and have a bow, iwould expect most adventurers regardless of class carried a bow of some kind, maybe you are not very proficient with it, thus adding to the difficulty of dragon hunting, but once he lands he is yours. Or just make sure you have a follower that is very proficient with archery, to get them to land.

Killed 28 Dragons and I'm on level 39. You'll find Dragons where the compass shows a Dragon face and of course they show up randomly.

Elder ancient dragons on expert or master are pretty damn tough. unless of course you have maxed out your character with elemental resistance, solid armor and high damage smithed weapons but at that point every enemy svcks. Without resistance an anicent dragons can take away 3-400 hitpoints with one breath attach, however with elemental resistance you can just stand there and take it pretty much, I think they should have some sort of resistance drain or something as shout.

Some dragons are supposed to fly around and don't attack anything. I suggest you progress in the story a bit. I don't want to spoil anything though.

You definitely need to advance more in the main quest. I was having that problem a lot too until I'd say 4 or 5 quests into the main quest line.

I find it funny when I ask Blacksmiths if they have anything that can kill a dragon and they laugh saying a man can't kill a dragon no matter what they have...yet me and my companion are decked out in full dragon gear XD
