I play on expert, but i have to turn it down to adept for dragons otherwise it takes just so long to kill one when i can never hit it with my sword. I guess I should start the main quest : /
Or just get a basic proficiency in a bow. If you were a dragon, would you land on the ground just so any random guy with a sword could hack you up?

Try finishing the MQ only with gear that you get from the first scene in Helgen and not using any spells. Then you won't need gimpy mods to make you feel tough.

I enjoy fighting dragons for the most part. However, I do get very annoyed when they won't fight me. I've gotten to the point where I'll just go about my business and ignore them unless they actually grow a pair and challenge me directly. As long as they keep flying around out of archery/spell range, I just let em fly. Not being able to fast travel can be annoying, but you can usually travel far enough away within a few minutes.

The other thing of course, is that they are far too common. There's no mystique anymore when they show up every 10 minutes. I too have started just leaving the bones and scales on the bodies. It's just not worth it to drag them around to sell or store them anymore- especially when they start showing up in twos.

As far as that ability that has been mentioned that supposedly makes it easier to get them to fight:

Spoiler
I have to say, I'm disappointed in Dragonrend. It needs to work better. More often that not, I hit them with it when they are hovering directly overhead, or very near, and still they will fly up, move over behind some rocks or some other kind of obstacle before they finally land. By the time I get to them, it often has run out, and they fly away again. It needs to not just make them land, it needs to make them land IMMEDIATELY, right where they are. I mean really, are these dragons, or guerrilla fighters? A dragon that is afraid to fight face to face with a mere mortal is not scary AT ALL.

Those who fancy themselves as "super pros" should try

player.placeatme 640b7 10

on master. It should cure you of your delusions soon enough. Unless you have a certain build you are unlikely to win.

How do the dragons rank in difficulty? I fought an Elder Dragon and it took longer to beat than the common rabble. But then again I did fight this one on top of a tower so it never landed near me.

I know what you mean! except a Dragon will attack me, then he'll just start setting flame to every thing and any thing in sight, he'll land and i'll get a few good shots off. but once i get a criticle he'll turn on me again and kill me. i know what you mean. Here's a tip that i discovered. when ever he lands, save. then if he gets to far away, reload it. it should work that he goes somewere else. worked for me.

No idea how mayn Dragons i already killed maybe around 20 or more. But they land really fast in my game without they took much damage. But on elder dragons it is dangerous to attack them on the ground. They kill you with one snap attack.

Im level 28. I've killed 2 dragons. The first one to start the quest and a random (I spend hours tracking down trying to get it to attack me)

I rarely see dragons, which im fine with. But when I do see one, It NEVER attacks me!! I just spend the last probably 2 hours trying to fight this one dragon, who attacked and killed everthing that even thought to move in the area, except me.

Not to mention im a melle character and the thing only lands once every about 10 attacks.

Dragons are frustrating. Really. I really love about everything else about this game though. But seriously they spend so much time on them, why are they just mediocre?

/frustrated rant.

i dont know what your doing (maybe your playing on Novice...) but dragons get to be annoying as hell once you get down to the Elder Dragons.

Saw the link and was extremely impressed! I wish Beth had gone this route. I love the game, but dragon fights are the most disappointing thing in Skyrim for me. Below lets say, level 15, the can be a bit scary, but after that they become progressively easier and by the time you reach level 40, they're almost laughable. The occasional Ancient Dragon might be a challenge, until you reach past level 60 and have a large health pool to go along with your physical/magical resistances, then they're a yawner too.

Since enemies level scale, I would like Dragons to be 5 or 10 levels above you... NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL YOU ARE! If you're 81... they should be 91 with enormous health and magicka pools. They should make you spam potion after potion, want to bring a heavily augmented companion, wipe out entire giant camps with 3 mammoths and two giants... I would like to shudder at the thought of seeing one. But alas, when I see one with my level 40 characters, I just ask myself... How fast can I kill you this time? Making Dragons like you posted on this link would make battles with them sooooo much more epic...

This especially goes for the endgame. Not to post any spoilers, but it was incredibly disappointing that I spent a lot of time and effort reaching level 40, and the endgame just didn't keep up... especially with the "help" that you get.

Early in the game, when I was incredibly weak and faced a dragon, I ran to the nearest giant camp and utilized them as a distraction to save my hide. I ended up killing the dragon that way. I wish, they made me do that more than they do now.

Play on master. They are much harder and the fights are more dynamic.

i'm around level 38 and have killed at least 50 or more dragons. though i kept going the blackbeards and getting a new shout location on map. i have most shouts and words maxed out now. but dragons have seemed to be everywhere for me since that beginning dragon quest. i mean , they could be off in the distance and if i just pop my head out they'd be after me. often there could be 25 people in town with me fighting and that svcker will be blasting me. i get tired of them sometimes and try to lure them to other characters if i can , they come down more and lose health quicker. other than bow or shout or destruction magic , it helps if you can conjure something that shoots magic also.

Besides gettihg locations from the greybeards, which I admitedly haven't done, exploring the map and looking for word walls is a sure fire (no pun intended) way to encounter a dragon.

Woah, back up guys, we've a real bad ass right here. :toughninja:

=p

And OP: Pretty sure that dragon advent rate increases when you get further and further into the main quest.

So far I've ran into a decent amount of dragons, but yeah, they're pretty damn annoying. I especially hate the ones who land...on buildings. There's literally no way to get them without going through a ridiculous amount of potions.

Dragons are "awesome" up to the point they just get irritating to me it was about 25 random dragons. Attacking the same towns again and again almost each time I visit them especially Riverwood which seems to love dragons.

Adding to that you cannot stop them even after the main quest defeating the "king of dragons" both of these reasons is why I am playing on my current character that does not do the main quest so I do not have to be annoyed by the dragons.

That doesn't even include the way they move/attack it certainly isn't polished the first 15 minute game play had better polished dragons overall for some unknown reason I still cannot determine why or how that can be. Of course 1.2 Flying backward dragons were bad and fixed although I still have a dragon flying on top of a mountain that will not go away or attack no matter what I use even Dragonrend does not effect him. But again that is my old character.

Advance through the MQ and you will find a solution to your problem.

I personally like that they rarely land, if I had wings and the power to blast everything with fire/frost and call deadly storms I'd never land where my enemy could get to me.

This.

Ancient Dragons are annoying to melee characters that discover in a painful way that magic resistances are useful. :) Unlike those arch-necromancer and arch-conjurers, dragons cannot be taken by suprise

a melee char is going to have a bad time fighting dragons. they fly, it's simple. they have the power to damage anything from the air and you expect them to land and fight face 2 face? maybe if you annoy them a little bit (give 'em a reason to land) you'll get your chance.

as a deep emersion of RP you'd want only a stupid char would stick to melee weapons when dealing with a creature of the skies. even some draugr dreadlords are using melee weapons and bows. if they spot you they'll switch to the bow and then after they loose you from direct line of sight would come search melee combat. and they are undead zombies.

so, learn to use a bow. it will not hurt you, and guess what you don't need to put perks in it, and you'll increase your level. and as a fighter i guess u know how to smith and thus improve the bow's damage.
a hunting bow can reach 500+ damage with specific build, but a 200dmg takes down regular dragons in 3 shots on expert difculty lvl 50 char. imagine for a low level char that smiths himself a powerfull bow will be able to damage it suficiently.
this is no spoiler, but is basic logic with minimum knowledge of play.

for my archer char the house landings were best.
provided no melee attacks from dragon
provided cover from it's shouts
guards could hit it safely
follower (that has also a bow, not necesarily specialised archer) inflicts some damage

stop bitc***g about the power of the dragons. as you go up in levels it should be logical that you can end them faster.
haven't got any dragons fly backwards though. neat trick :D
