more combat added to base game ?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:00 am

with more dlcs coming out, another 5 level increase making it 40 levels, the game is already too easy at level 20 with hardly anything on the map to kill, not nearly enough ceasers legions or even ncr patrolling, FO3 had enclave, outcast, merc patrolls all over the place, what the hell is going on here, no enemy patrols? well the game is already unbalanced at level 20 and my charactyer is already basically a "god" at level 20, so not sure how ignoring the base game which is already too easy and its not very hard to move around 95% of the map at level, other than a few deathclaw and cazedore areas, so i sure hope a dlc comes out to add some punch and life into the game at higher levels or else its become ridiculously easy and even more unbalanced than FO3 was with broken steel added, at least FO3 had plenty of tough enemies in the game to fight at high levels.

What game were you playing?? Fallout 3 didn't have *any* tough enemies, and the game's balance was broken and non-existent with DLCs.

new vegas combat is easier than fallout 3, what game are you playing? i played fallout 3 for 2 years and now NV since it came out, combat in new vegas is way easier overall, sure there's a few spots and enemies that are tough but its a lot easier to move around the map world in new vegas than in FO3, way easier, in FO3 there were quite a lot of enemies to deal with, all over the place, enclave patrols, enclave outposts, supermutants all over, talon mercs all over, raiders all over, outcast patrolls all over, tons of deathclaws etc, maybe you didn't play FO3 like i did but nobody is gonna tell me new vegas is harder. ceasers legion are nowhere to be found, nelson and cottonwood cove, thats not very hard combat, and no CL patrols hardly at all, not even any NCR patrols anywhere, geez.

The Enclave, Super Mutants, and Talon Company were all lol. You could easily kill them all with a 10mm pistol. Don't confuse more combat with harder combat.

Perhaps the next DLC will have some more emphasis (but not totally focused) on combat and tougher enemies. Hopefully we can also revisit the area (or areas) once done with the initial main quest of said DLC so there can be an area for players who like fighting more than talking. Kind of like how Dead Money emphasized a bit more on sneaking and traps than other aspects of the gameplay.

I don't want them adding canon breaking super ghouls or any more super bullet sponge enemies like Broken Steel did with Fallout 3.

Still with the Level cap at 35 (I play PC so I can't get dead money :sadvaultboy: ) and another DLC making it go to 40? I can see my characters becoming stupid gods like in FO3.

Way to balance out the game IMO would be to have enemies with better fire power :gun: Give some of the Nightkin Browning .50cal machine guns. Have some old school robots, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Sentry_Bot_(Fallout_2). :tops: Give the fiends some missle launchers and anti material rifles. Increase the numbers a little.

obsidian improved the game over FO3 in almost every aspect except for combat and exploration. in those two areas they totally dropped the ball, and as good as the story is and as good as so many other aspects of new vegas is like skill/perk/special system, quests etc, its not a lot of fun to have tons of weapons etc and all the perks and almost no enemies to fight, i don't mean none at all obviously, there are some enemies but for the huge size of the map its way too easy to cruise around the vast majority of the map, at least 50% of the map needs to have a pretty good degree of danger to it, the way it is now, you don't even need a gun for like 95% of the map. you needed your weapons ready in a lot more areas in FO3, way more.

Yes, I do think Combat is harder in NV. I think combat is harder in F1. F2 was far and far the hardest.

To be fair there are areas without enemies to get the point across that the area has been civilized. NCR would look stupid if there were random raiders and slavers popping up behind the lines attacking the people they are there to protect/control. FO3 being an area where there is no sign of any progress even after 200 years, it would be place where random groups attack.

Its very annoying in FO3 to deal with "you're mine" "Talon company!" every five minutes.

Still best way to balance the game, better fire power in the hands of "bad guys"

Yay for raised level cap.... Self nerfing here I come!

Even if they do add new enemies it still doesn't fix the skill cap and perk cap.
Skills will be at 100 and perks will go from 15 to 20.

So what I'd like is no more raising the level cap, in fact, reduce it to 25 and then add in new enemies that are of greater challenge.

to me the combat is not harder in new vegas, i use my weapons far less in new vegas than in FO3, you can move around most of new vegas without any weapons, except for a few spots, you can't do that as easily in FO3, there were lots of areas with pretty big battles going on in FO3, la enfant plaza, inside and outside of the capitol building, the metro tunnel under hubris comics, there were prob at least a dozen ghoul reavers down there, and lots of other good battlezones like adams air base or the roosovelt academy, all those areas were pretty combat oriented and there were plenty of other good areas like near paradisfe falls where the supermutants were hanging out on the hillside, all those spots were pretty fun to fight in, new vegas just doens't have those type of areas at all, other than the deathclaw areas and its pretty to kill them just by staying up on top of the rocks and using a sniper rifle etc.

Agreed. Bullet sponges are drudgery. Doesn't break canon. Canon is whatever the rights owners wish to put into the game.

Don't know why PC users complain. GECK it.

Agreed this would be good, but the difficulty doesn't seem to work like that. I wish it did, but I also wish I had Tiger Woods lifestyle without the boring golf bits. Wishing will not make it so. :(

Again the OP is confusing quantity with quality. MORE does not mean HARD. It just means more annoyances.

i'm not confusing anything, the bottom line is there isn't enough combat in the game period, its far too easy to cruise around the map, way too easy, you're talking about "quality" combat in new vegas? oh you mean a raider with a pool que, or a powder ganger with a 9 mm, or a ceasers leagion with a "machete" ROFL whats so hard to fighting them ? give me a break, enclave had plasma rifles, incinerators, sentry bots with missles, thats a lot better"quality" enemy, they were even pretty tactical, so don't act like all the enemies in new vegas have this quality fighting tactics. its like obsidian didn't want us to fight enemies with good weapons or tactics, they hardly put any human enemies is the game because they didn't want us to get their weapons, that makes a lot of sense, thats why most enemies are melee and don't even shoot at you, and when they are shooting at you its a 9 mm pistol or varmint rifle, yeah thats real "quality" combat , big negative

I don't like getting mods or Gecking it. I enjoy the game as the Devs made it.

I could turn it around and ask why not get a PC and Geck it if you are not happy about the difficulty and lack of random attackers and other FPS elements?

That's your choice then, but there are a number of mods that lower the level cap that people seem to be happy with. If you don't want to use them then so be it, but if the developers decide (as is their prerogative) to raise the level cap to 50, you really have no cause for complaint.

Bullet sponge enemies :banghead:

Ok I'm calm.

Instead of increasing the hp of enemies, why not increase damage? Crazy mutants with rocket launchers attached to their arms (so we can't loot them back and turn imba on the world) that take one third of our health with a single rocket? Anyone remember Far Cry?

If we're gonna have an FPS, let's at least have a proper one.

well you can just arbitrarily make up any backstory to fit your gaming philosophy, their is suppose to be a war going on, i don't see any of the factions fighting each other really except for a few fiends fighting ncr near mcarren airport, the map needs a lot more fights and skirmishes between the various factions, i think obsidion didn't want use to get any good weapons just by killing enemies so they basically made the enemies melee fighters, even ceasers legion doesn't have any high tech long range weapons, they mostly use macheties, anyway i'm not gonna play the game anymore unless a futre dlc adds content to the base game, i'll just wait for ESV. bethesda does a lot better in the combat and exploration department, so FO4 will prob have way more combat than new vegas does.

Again MORE != HARD

Combat in Fallout 3
1. draw Xuanlong Assault Rifle
2. hold down trigger
3. point at thing you don't like
4. ???
5. Loot and profit

Besides, it's HARD enough to play a diplomatic character in NV because of the amount combat is in there. Fallout 3 was flat out impossible to do, because there are tonz of moments where you are required to kill.

I did not make up an "arbitrary backstory." I pay attention to the story. There is a War between NCR. There was a big first battle for the Dam. Legion lost. Legion need time to regroup, hence the fort. NCR, lost alot of troops as well and the leadership has decided containment of the Legion is best. We as the player has shown up and is now the deciding factor in who controls the Mojave. Like I said the Mojave is civilized and having random spawning of mindless enemies just makes no sense story wise.

I do agree future DLCs should give "enemies" better fire power.

well glad we agree, the enemies do need more firepower, the philosophy obsidian seems to have is, not give enemies good weapons because we'll end up with em, thats a bad game philosophy, and they seemed to go out of their way not not give enemies good firearms and opted to arm a lot of them with melee weapons which to me is kinda not so fun, i can kill most enemies before they get to me with their melee weapons, i would much rather have them firing bullets etc at me.
