Names

There will never be laws to limit what one names their children.

Well there should be in some cases, nameing your child something like 37 bus stop or whatever would just lead to bullying and is considered by some as child abuse and that is something people have laws against, so there will be laws.

My sister has name that in it's correct form is unique in the whole country (last i checked), and it's nothing ridiculous either. My and my brother's names aren't that creative, unfortunately.

Lydia here. I haven't met too many Lydia's... But I suppose it's a pretty common name. Now I'm going to embarass my siblings by naming them:

Brothers: Jerome, Sebastian, Phillip
Sisters: Charletta, Rose

I don't mind our names, I'd rather have my middle name, May, to be honest.... Ah well. I know Jerome hates his name because people pronounce it wrong, but to be honest there are two ways of pronouncing it. Jerom-y and Je-rome. He prefers the latter.

Mum is Italian and dad is English, my brothers have French names I think. My sisters and I are pretty generic I guess. :P If I had kids I'd stick to the French theme for boys, and I have no idea for girls. I'd hate to embarass my children...

I know someone called Isabel End. Bit of British slang there... But that's seriously her name. Poor girl. :shakehead:

Lydia isn't a very common name, at least around here it's not. But make sure to remind your brother Sebastian that he has an amazing name (it's one my favorites). :hehe:

My name is Michał, and my sisters are Paulina and Dominika. In Poland, we can't give name to children if it is ridiculous, offensive, or if it is a diminutive and it has to be gender specific. And if one wants to give his child an uncommon name, he needs to go to registry office, where it will be cosulted, often with Language Council. Ah, and you can't give more than two names here. And i think that it can't be a name of common thing/item or a number.

I have known a few Lydias here in Indy. But I know about 12 Ryans, which is rather crazy.

I knew a kid called "Sunny Day" (with "Day" being his last name) in my old high school. He was constantly bullied, ended up attacking one of the bullies and being expelled from the school.

My name's Jennifer. Jennifer is like the 12th most common girl name or something for people born the same year as me. That's okay though, 'cause I've never felt particularly overwhelmed by other Jennifers. Though I think its origin, Guinevere is prettier. But then I'd have to smack people for calling me Guin or Gwen because that's just ugly.

Lydia here. I haven't met too many Lydia's... But I suppose it's a pretty common name.

Beetlejuice! ^^

Sounds like a personal problem. When I hear Gwen I think of my brother's gorgeous naturally blonde wife, or the equally beautiful heroine of the Torchwood TV series (or Gwen Stefani - definitley not fat and hairy).

It's rather depressing that I'm not surprised at all that that happened. The kid gets bullied for years, then the one time he fights back he gets expelled. God our school system svcks.

What was that other story? 15-year old girl, felt too sick for school, returned on the same bus she arrived on, then the bus driver had a heart attack or something to that effect, she stopped the bus and saved 40+ children and then got detention for not reporting back? ^_^

like why doesnt anyone name their kids normal names like Nick or William or Robert or Charles or Johnathan

Because they're "normal" which makes them common, and therefore boring.
