My name is only three letters long!
Jay is my first name (hence the screen name).

I probably have the whitest name ever. My first name is one of the most common white names out there, and I have THE most common last name in the U.S. (To save you a trip to google, it's Smith)

I guess that makes me harder to e-stalk though, so that's good :P

I still desperately want to make my kid's middle name Vi, but with a last name like Smith it just wouldn't have the same ring to it as Lelouch Vi Britannia. :sadvaultboy:

My kids will most likely receive family names (keeps it personal;
and is a tradition in my family like it is in many famlies).

Callum, Eamon, Duncan, and Turner are tops for boys (my
great grandfather, great uncles, and my grandfather respectively)

Anna-Laura, Elisabeth, and Mattie (two great aunts and my
grandmother [though my grandmother's name might be a bit old
fashioned, it could easily translate as a pet name]) are tops for girls :) .

Else, the names I would choose (in the end) would have to be
agreed upon by my future partner (and, as I am mostly a push-over,
would accept them as a middle name alternative).

EDIT: as for my own name, I blame my dad for reversing what
was meant to be the middle name with the name meant to come first.

At least you can call yourself Zoe(y), so that isn't bad.

My name is very plain... William Joseph [insert last name here]. I'd prefer to be called Wilhelm Josef. Now to learn some German.

I'm going to call you Lord William.

I had a friend named Hamish, we all called him Ham. Maybe that's his full name?

There are a few names I here WAY to often these days that I cringe at upon hearing.

Aden (or however the hell its spelled) is common. I hate it :nuke:

Hoai is a name that is pronounced like "y," but since you seem to find it strange I'm guessing they weren't Asian.

Never met a Kyle...

Unless you mean in person. I couldn't help you then.

I know a couple of Kyles, one from high school and two in college, and we have a lot of the same classes. In high school we didn't call each other by our first names (because, my reasoning was, I didn't like to say my own name), so we called each other by our last names.

I'll probably end up naming my kid(s) after my (I believe) great-grandfather Gerhard. :P Well, probably not, but my father and grandfather have good names, so I might stick with those and not have to worry about using any imagination.

I'd rather see rather ordinary, if unoriginal, names than the current trend in my city of just stringing random syllables together to make a name.

Case in point: my sister and her friend were deciding on a name for the friend's soon-to-be daughter. They finally settled on Amaya (uh-my-uh), but could not decide on how to actually spell the damn name. First was Amya, but they thought folks would mispronounce it (am-yuh). Then they thought about a few others that were tossed out because it could be pronounced (am-i-yuh) or (am-ee-ya).

Finally, I said, "Spell it how you will, I'm just gonna call the kid [censored] Amy." That got me booted out of the room and the conversation, but I think I made my point. The point being, if you want folks to get your kid's name right, give it an actual name, don't make [censored] up. And for god's sake, don't give them ancient names that aren't used any more like [censored] Atticus, Spartacus, or Leopold.

At least they have a name. You go around having four forenames and see how you fare. ^_^

Why Leopold? There's been maybe five boys of that name over here on secondary and university. Although... That's in Germany, so it might not count. ^_^

Here in the States it's about as common as Spartacus. The name Leopold, if it means anything to folks here, conjures up images of $1500 rifle scopes. In this city at least, you're much more likely to run into a Leandru (lee-on-drew) than to run into a Leopold.

Then you have the folks here who name their kid after the type of car the kid was conceived in: Montero, Sorrento, or the ambitious La Porche.

After carrying my kids for nine months, then birthing them all knowing I would be using that name for the rest of my life to call out to my kids...I think it was ok to name them anything I damn well pleased. If they hated their names they would have the option of changing it when they become an advlt and that would be fine by me.

But I could care less what anyone anywhere thought about the names I picked.

Have your own kids and name them what you please.
