I find the single most infuriating "I can spell a name however I want to" name to be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chone_Figgins.

Spoiler
In the interest of full disclosure when discussing the crazy things people name their babies, I named my son Draco.

I would call him cone... I don't care how I'm supposed to say it

Whats wrong with giving kids popular names? I would rather have my kid be named something normal (zach or something) then a name they'll be embarassed forever about like something from a fantasy movie.

It happens...names are cyclical. Like in the 20's, there were a lot of Roses and Beverly, and Virginias. *shrug* don't see why it would bother you...just make sure to name your kid moonflower or apple. :P

Oh. My. Gosh, OP. You and I are seriously on the same wavelength here. I love you. As stated in a controversial post earlier in the week, this is one of my pet peeves (though I should've phrased it better)--unoriginality in names. I also had to put my foot in my mouth when my sister revealed my other, pregnant sister is naming her son Aidyn (but she has a really good reason to do so).

As for me, I like names that aren't too common (common is still good, but there's that area between Bob and Jayden where common names are acceptable), but aren't too weird or misspelled.

Current Name Candidates:
- Trentham (shortened to Trent)
- Lars
- Dimitri Wolf Ocelot*
- Kurt Lukas Xavier*
- Eggbert Hamish Spamiel
- And I've been playing around with Adria for a girl, although I'll probably hate it in a few days' time. We're both crap at thinking of girls' names.

* - Chosen by g-ranger

EDIT: What the heck is a 'save wavelength'?

There's also the problem that if you have a really crappy name, you won't get taken seriously on job interviews. So unless you want to condemn poor Wayne and Crystal to lives as trolley boys and strippers, consider giving them a more aspirational name.

It's both of those, and more. Revolver Ocelot + Big Cat. The Wolf is there to supplement it and provide contrast.

Oh god no. Your son would forever be called "Breakfast Boy"

And he would be delicious

Not so much. I never came into contact with that character. Wolf is what my dad wanted to name me, and ended up being my middle name.

I've just always loved it. It's common, yet uncommon, and that's what I love about it. I name all of my game characters Lars, even and especially when I play women.

Perfect.

Nah, I actually just threw that in. Whenever we talk about kids' names, I throw that in to piss him off.

I can't stand some of the popular names these days, most of them sound too "hot shot, look at me!"

Would you guys/girls consider Ben a common name?

Jose? That's the most unoriginal/stereotypical name I can think of. :P

If I ever, by some curse or accident, get kids, I will name them after a video game of some sort, because I have no imagination.

I'm definitely naming one of the boys I (may) have Bruce. That name kicks ass. If I have any girls, one of them will be Rita. I love that name for some reason.
