New G4 Interview with Chris Avellone

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:22 am

They did'nt look brilliant, but they look ok to me....it makes them look old, used & worn etc...adds to the feel of the game better in my view.
It's better than having them look like brand new guns that have just been made, would'nt have the same feel to me...i like that dirty used look ,fits fallout well.
Just my view :)

I think he was referring to the blurriness, which is a valid complaint if you ask me.
I mean, it's nothing that bad, but it's a little annoyance.

I was digging the lever action he was using in there. My brother just bought one from the sporting goods sore he works at. A refurbished Russian Sniper Rifle.

what else can they show, dude? combat is the only thing about a game like this that doesn't potentially spoil the experience for people, since it's all the same stuff. like 80% of the people playing this game will spend 80% of their time shooting things - they're showing off the improved animations, which is the thing everybody complains about, whether or not they liked FO3.

if they showed more areas than they've shown already then that's spoiling exploration for people. also, not only is dialogue a horribly boring thing to show for gameplay footage - it would almost definitely spoil something quest-wise, unless it's vague, in which case it's pretty much just showing "hey this game has a dialogue system that's functionally identical to its predecessor!"

I guess you're right.

I just don't see the endless combat and VATS presentations as interesting... at all anymore. Oh, well.

Yeah I'd rather them just walk around the wasteland.

I would actually like this, but it may contain some big spoilers as to locations and random events.

Eh I can't load this video on my phone or ps3 and I can't find it on youtube? How much footage of the gameworld and new locations are there? Any footage of the desert and if so does everything look cramped or is there any open space?

Yes, there is about 3 locations shown. We see some of the desert, and a look at the bolt-action rifle in first person. Footage of Geckos, and a look at Vulpes Inculta (one of the elite in the CL). It seems less spaced out than FO3, but not cramped. It also shows a new faction of "Escaped Convicts", with a possible quest about defeating them for the town deputy "Deputy Beagle"

Thanks. So it didn't look like locations are scattered everywhere you look? Three locations were shown but could you see more from a distance in the desert shots and the three that were shown were up close?

Edit: what town were the convicts in?

It did not say the name of the town with the convicts. Also the video showed mostly the inner-city-type towns, so we couldn't see other locations past the buildings.

To be honest, you're actually right in a way. While weapons are probably the most interesting items, they aren't the only items. It would be cool to learn more about new outfits, see the new Nuka-Cola flavors, have a look at what magazines look like, see what the snow globes have in them (like locations or Vault Boys), or have any new chems revealed to us.

In the desert footage though how open did it look?

It seemed like there is lots of cliffs and hills with different locations scattered around. We saw very little of the open desert, but it seemed pretty big.

That's what I was thinking. I was surprised when I saw a long row of houses.

In fact, all the settlements looked pretty big -- the town with the escaped convicts looked well populated, and Nipton was very big, too. Nothing actually seemed cramped from what I saw of the desert, it's just all the villages are much bigger, so that might make the Mojave feel smaller.
Personally, I prefer more and bigger settlements over a large desert. Really, it's been 200+ years since the bombs fell, isn't it time we get a few bigger towns up and running?

i didnt pay attention to every detail so i didnt catch what the gun's graphics look like, but maybe the slight blurriness is to make it seem old/worn?

http://g4tv.com/videos/48105/Fallout-New-Vegas-Senior-Designer-Interview/

The video has some new gameplay footage, including a first look at Vulpes Inculta! Chris also goes into detail about traits, factions, etc. Oh, and it looks like Caesar's Legion really likes crucifying people.

Cool vid!
