New players... sheesh!

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:14 am

My husband just started a character after watching me play 15 levels or so.

Him: Now, how do you catch butterflies?
Me: The same way you did when you were 8 years old.
Him: What does that mean?
Me: You'll figure it out.
Him (several minutes later): I see what you mean....

Him: Are these red mountain flowers good for anything?
Me: Yes, you can make poisons and potions with flowers.

So now, even when an unknown is in the distance, he has to stop and chase Torchbugs and pick flowers... it's adorable and disconcerting at the same time...

Just wait 'til he's 200 hours in before realising the sprint button works on horses.

I was way further than that into the game before I realized that you could swing a pickaxe manually at an ore vein to mine. It did not ever occur to me to do that until I read about it on this forum and I have been playing these games for years.

Now he's learning everything there is to know about archery at the Companions practice range, including bashing.

I didn't know that was possible either :o Everytime I come across an ore vein, it just says "mine ore vein", and I just press X to start watching my char collect it. (yes, I'm on PS3)

He'll get out of that real quick the first time he doesn't notice the sabre cat stalking him as he chases a luna moth.

Happened to me.

I often wonder what my follower is thinking as I'm running here and there after bugs or fish.

Probably not what they were envisioning when they took house-carl 101 at Skyrim U.

Maybe I've played this game too long.

You sir, made my palm hit my forehead. I've played the game for 300 hours, and didn't even figure that one out.
I'm pathetic sometimes, usually I'm good at quickly finding my way about in new games.

Yeah, just equip it like you would a normal weapon and press the attack button while facing the ore vein.

Yes, a pickaxe, an iron ore vein and a transmute spell can be ... profitable.

Now, if I can just figure out what the damn shovels are for ...

That's about the time it took me to realize you could pickpocket people in Morrowind.

So, what you've done up until now has been to manually hitting the vein till it's depleted? :o Doesn't that drain a lot of stamina?

I just found out after 300 hours that I could look at the maps in the game, the ones with the pins on it, and get my map updated.

Oh, and rotating the world map, that was recently discovered.

And, last noobie thing, using the End and Home keys when in a screen that uses a slider. Like when bartering your arrows, use the Home Key to get quickly to 1 or the End key when you want to rest 24 hours.

Silly Swede, gamers don't have girlfriends. Don't try to pretend so. :P
Anyway, I was like that when I first loaded up Skyrim too. I just had to jump from that waterfall and swim all the way to the ocean, while grabbing all the colourful fich I saw on the way.

Me: Yeah...

HIm: I paid that minstrel 25 gold for that stupid song?? I shoulda killed him right in the middle. I think I'm gonna go back and just kill him.

It wasn't until well into my second play through (I think I'm the only gamer who doesn't know how many hours he plays his games for - I've never understood the whole "you get about 200 hours out of it" stuff) that I realised you can bash with your bow. And my first character was the bigger archer - d'oh!
