New Vegas Voice Actors

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 5:00 am

Hey fellas, sorry if a thread like this was made recently, but we all know how badly the search engine svcks. :P

Anyway, am I the only one pumped about all the great actors that will have roles in this latest Fallout game? I mean, the cast includes the likes of Danny Trejo, Matthew Perry, Felicia Day, and reprising his role as "The Narrator" is Ron Perlman. Is that an epic cast or what?

For those of you who don't know, Danny Trejo was the guy in hit film "Machete", Matthew Perry was Chandler Bing from the popular TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Felicia Day is the star of the show "The Guild", and Ron Perlman is known for his role as "Hellboy" and also stars in the show called "Sons of Anarchy".

That's a pretty bad-ass cast, IMO. What do you guys think?

Edit: In this thread we will be discussing the various voice actors, and possibly their roles. If you consider such information a spoiler of sorts, I suggest you read no further. Thank you. :)

To be honest.

Kris Kristofferson is my favourite and most underappreaciated name on this list. Dude always gets way too little credit for the things hes done in his career.

Ron Perlman's the narrator? Nice.

EDIT: Who's the voice actor of Caesar?

I wish Ron Perlman was voicing a character this time instead of just the narrator. I'm glad he's doing that, it wouldn't be a Fallout game if it didn't start with him going "War, war never changes." But I'd like to see him do more. He played a memorable character in Fallout 1, the caravan organiser (or something). "Time is money, chit chat is not money!"

And also Michael Dorn as Marcus.

Ron Perlman has been the narrator of Fallout since the first game. Its not such a surprise that he's in here.

I know, this cast could be better.... just get Will Smith and there you go... he has played in a "Apocalypse" styled movie (I am Legend, Great movie, Will smith is my favorite actor, he can act in any role very well. He has done sad- serious, actiony-romantic, etc.-etc.

Well yeah, they could fill the cast with huge stars but it doesn't really add all that much, I think talent is important, but not misallocation of talent.

yeah, it's like the thing with the Elvis music. It's better to have a heap of music than one Elvis track. Same with voice talent: better to have 100 good (unknown) voice actors than 10 big names playing every character in the game.

Is it just me or have they not announced the voice of Craig Boone? If they haven't it can only lead me to believe that his voice actor is either a complete unknown, or a major player that that they are keeping secret as a nice surprise. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it's Ron Perlman and they felt they didn't have to announce it because he is also the narrator. Perlman voicing a character isn't unprecedented, he voiced http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Butch_Harris in Fallout 1.

Yeah, that's my point. As far as voice actors go he doesn't have a lot of experience, and thus isn't a big name. I don't have a problem with him per se, I think he's pretty good, but there's a larger pool of higher quality voice actors to pull from in California.

That's a good point, it would be a bit silly if Protectrons sounded nothing like they did in Fallout 3.

It depends on what you call experience. Look at his http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0426432/ - it may only show five games, but they're pretty big games. And there's also cartoons like Phineas and Ferb, series announcer for America's Most Wanted, shows like The Wire and Homicide and a bunch of movies with people like Anthony Hopkins, Tim Allen, Tracey Ullman and Chris Rock. So as far as experience, he seems to have plenty. At least a lot more than you or I (I'm assuming). :)

So are there going to be Protectrons in Fallout New Vegas or not? It seems odd in the 21st century to say that someone can't record on something because they're on the wrong coast. Is Wes Johnson house bound or something? I'm guessing that Liam Neeson, Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart were on coasts a lot farther away than the East one when they recorded for Bethesda.

Matthew Perry was Chandler Bing from the popular TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S

He's a big F3 fan too.

And how the hell could you NOT mention the most awesome addition to the cast! Rene Auberjonois as Mr. House.

Do you think Matthew Perry got an advanced copy of the game and is playing it right now? I would have negotiated that into my deal for the voice work.

Do they have Jennifer Hale? She's been in pretty much everything. :P

KOTOR 1/2, Knights of the Old Republic, Planescape Torment, Mass Effect 1/2, Clash of the Titans, No More Heroes, Mercenaries 2, Soul Calibur IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Age of Empires 3, Doom 3, Tales of Symphonia, Baldur's Gate 1/2, and all sorts of cartoons... Why no TES/Fallout game yet? :P

I just think people here make too big of a deal out of him, that's all. The west coast has a higher volume of more experienced voice actors, which is exactly why most game developers/publishers/animation studios seeking North American voice acting go there to do their voice recording.

There's Protectrons, we've seen them in screenshots. I assume that they either gave them entirely new voices, or kept the original voices and merely provided new similar sounding voice recordings for any new dialogue. The same thing likely had to be done for the other robots like Mr. Handy and Mr. Gutsy since Stephen Russell is found on the east coast like Johnson is.

It's certainly possible, she's a west coast VA.

I don't think so.

I think she's Canadian, but I really don't know. I also find it ironic that she doesn't like video games.

I think you completely missed my point about technology being available to record East Coast actors on the West Coast if they'd really wanted to keep the voices consistent. You may not like Wes Johnson or Stephen Russell as voice actors, but there's no reason to be dismissive of them. You think there are more experienced actors on the West Coast? Wrong. There are just MORE of them out there. And guess what? They aren't grown on the West Coast like a bumper crop. They come from EVERYWHERE else. Both Russell and Johnson have plenty of NATIONAL credits, so I really don't think that they're exclusively local. I'll bet they wouldn't be so happy to be classified that way.

And as far as making to big a deal out of Johnson? Lucien Lachance, Sheogorath, the Arena Announcer, Imperials, Fawkes, Mr Burke, Protectrons, Tracker Yokels and Squire Bigsley to name a few, and they all (except for Lucien and Burke) sound very different. I don't care what coast you search on; that's versatility. I hope they have found voice actors who are equally as talented for FONV, but you don't have to trash one group of talent to appreciate another.

I never said I didn't like either of these guys, nor did I say anything about being dismissive towards them.

I think you completely missed my point. All I was saying is that most voice actors located in America either live on, or do their work on the west coast. I never said anything about where they're from, so I have no idea where you got the idea that I thought all of them were "grown on the west coast".

I think you're misinterpreting what I said. All I said is that I don't understand why people make such a big deal about Johnson, I didn't say anything about him being a bad voice actor, nor did I trash him.

Okay... if you don't see what the big deal is, I obviously can't convince you :)

But you are wrong about most voice actors being on the West Coast. In fact, a lot of the people who have been cast in FONV live elsewhere, even if they WORK in Los Angeles. And with technology, you can be on the moon and do a voice session in LA, NY, Chicago, Paris, wherever.

I will agree that I'm excited for a lot of the people cast in this, Michael Dorn and Ron Perlman especially because of their past history with FO. And I will also agree that I like it when the characters are varied enough so that you don't run into the same guy in the wasteland 500 times. That being said, I think a few of the characters that stood out in FO3, especially the robots would have been cool as a link between the two games.

I feel the same way about every actor/voice actor. I do agree with the opinion that they [Johnson and Russell] probably should have been brought back for the generic robots that they voiced just like Michael Dorn was brought back for Marcus, but beyond that I don't really find myself caring all that much about who is in what. That's why I don't understand what the big deal is. It has nothing to do with Johnson's talent (and for the record I think he's a good VA), or who Johnson is; heck I think he sounds like a real nice guy. I also like Stephen Russell's voice work (Thief/System Shock fan).

Perhaps, I'm no expert on modern voice work recording. However I think we can assume from Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout 3/New Vegas that Bethesda has certain preferences when it comes to voice over recording that prevented Johnson and Russell from being used in New Vegas.

That being said, I think a few of the characters that stood out in FO3, especially the robots would have been cool as a link between the two games.

I have to agree with this since I like consistency. It will be a bit strange if the robots in New Vegas sound completely different from what they sounded like in Fallout 3.
