NHL Thread II

I think that Boston should maybe start Tuuka in this game, or the next, to give Thomas a bit of a rest. Yes, I know, Thomas has basically carried the Bruins so far this season, but he's not a young chap, and he did consistently better this season when he got the occasional day's rest. And Tuuka is probably one of the best backups in the league (remember last year, he had the lower GAA and the highest SV% in the entire league?) and certainly capable of playing well in the playoffs. It's just an idea.

Pros of Bruins victory tonight: They would get a strong 3-0 lead on the series.
Pros of Philly victory tonight: I won't have to hear about last year's 3-0 lead anymore.

Don't get over confident. But yes, the Bruins have been far and away the better team in this series. I loved Marchand's play tonight, he had a good assist, some great hits, and brought his usual energy to the game. And of course, Thomas is showing the Flyers goalies what to do, and they're failing in their imitations. I love it.

Red Wings down now 3-0 in the series. So much for revenge.

I guess I don't care who wins now, as long as it isn't the Sharks.

Go Canucks/Preds/Bruins/Lightning!

Bruins up 3 games to 0! Hopefully they keep it going.

Also, Lightning sweep.

I'm almost speechless when it comes to the Capitals. I wonder if Bruce Boudreau will keep his job next year.

I don't see how more people didn't see the Caps losing. They have never been that great in the playoffs, and their not good enough in their own zone to hold back the Lighting's amazing offense.

And Ovechkin is over-rated. IMO.

It's so hard to know how a coach will get his players to perform in the playoffs, so it'll be a tough call.

Damn, the Lightning are hot right now, I don't know if I can see anyone beating them.

Except that in the season, Tampa had terrible defensive play and the Caps had successfully adopted a more complete game. In fact, Tampa still has bad defense, but their smothering 1-3-1 and the fact Roloson stood on his old head won them the series because Boudreau (sp?) couldn't counter the system the Lightning were playing.

I never said Tampa has good D, I was saying that out of the two offensively minded teams Lighting to me where the clear favorites. They have some proven players and plenty of other talent.Caps on the other hand have never shown up in the playoffs, Ovechkin and Backstrom are consistently invisible.

Should have cleared my end up. I meant that both teams had capable offense, ignoring any past history of Caps offensive inabilities, but of the 2 defensive squads, the Caps had proven themselves as a better team over the year. The Lightnings downfall during the season was their defensive play and they have clearly solved that problem as well as their goaltending deciding to finally step up.

AH now I get you, I agree Caps had the better defense coming into the playoffs.

The Caps also had momentum and confidence coming in, with that late season surge. I knew the Lightning could give them a run, but I never expected a sweep.

In fact, this second round looks like it could be very short compared to last one. 3 sweeps possible compared to 5, seven game series last round.

Yea, it's turning out to be a quick-looking (hahah, but appearances can be quite deceiving) 2nd round. Maybe Nashville can make an interesting series, but besides that...ehhh.

And I hope that the quick victory and ensuing layoff will cool down the red-hot lightning, particularly Roloson.

If the Red Wings lose the series (which they probably will) I am pulling for the Lightning only because Stevie Y is their GM.

That is certainly a good reason. :)

Don Cherry was ranting and raving about how the "worker" players on teams like the Lightning and Predators have been coming up big. I'd say it's happened with Boston too. Only in the last few games have the Bruins actual "star" players (i.e. first forward and defensive lines.. mainly that comprise of guys like Lucic, Chara, Horton, Krejci) taken things by the reins.

Awesome that the Bruins won, but I can't help wondering why Philly didn't play with a little more energy. Two empty net goals given up? Philly's got a lot of talent, don't know why they looked done with ten minutes left.

Boston vs. Tampa should be a good matchup.

This is almost diametric opposites of the first round, with most of them going 6 and 7, whereas this round right now is almost looking like 4 and 5.
