Official Dawnguard Trailer is up

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:03 pm

I can say I didn't expect anything like this, this lich/vampire lord thing seems odd, and it really stands apart from the main game. But hey, crossbows!
And did I see a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Frost_Giant there? Very interesting.

For the record, I still crave werebears.

At first I hated the idea of Vampire lords, but now that it looks like Volkihar or some other type of vampire, I'm happy. Also, Crossbows! :D

It looks like you have the choice to join the Dawnguard and fight the vampires, or to join the vampires and get the vampire form to me.

If you block out the sun, everything in Skyrim would die, so saving the world from Alduin was pointless as everything would die anyway. It would also destroy the visuals of Skyrim that Bethesda spent so long creating.

Notice the part where he opens the elder scroll and you see a part of West Skyrim, between Markarth and Solitude, and at the beginning of the nothern tributary of the Karth River there seems to be a symbol

What I noticed is what seems to be a symbol for Markarth (it's identical to the one on the in-game map, anyway), and it seems to be glowing red. Very curious.

Edit:
If you block out the sun, everything in Skyrim would die, so saving the world from Alduin was pointless as everything would die anyway. It would also destroy the visuals of Skyrim that Bethesda spent so long creating.

Depends on how "blocking out the sun" is implemented. In the trailer now it reminds me less of "full dark, no stars" and more of how the Blight was in Morrowind. We'll have to wait and see.

And if you don't want to block out the sun, then don't. Free will is awesome that way. :P

I have watched it a few times but I cannot say I am impressed. It looks like you won't have much choice in the DLC. Vampires want to block out the sun, and you have to stop them. I would like there to be the ability to join them and block it but if you think about it, that would ruin the whole game and be an automatic endgame.

So it looks like two castles will magically appear in Skyrim and then you have a choice to do the vampire quest. :(

I'm still looking forward to it but it doesn't look like the epic DLC I was expecting.
Lol at you, remember when dragonborn character turned into a vampire lord? Yeah that explains it.

Also noticed the the vampire imp thing was carrying spells in each hand,or was that feet.

Location: appears to be a secluded area north of skyrim, though from the trailer it appears much of the story also takes place in the skyrim we know.

Bah i cant see good on the iphone, we need to make a list of confirmed new features.

I saw crossbows, vamps, and dragons under water.

I have to admit, even though I hate vampires this looks freaking epic. I cannot wait to join the dawnguard!

This explains why vamps didnt get much vanilla skyrim love, they were saving up for this.

Have fun vampire players! This is your bloodmoon!

Okay a few questions....

1) The main plot of the expansion is obvious, very cool BTW. Will there be additional sub quests? Will the Radiant system get new random quests?

2) Is this level based? I mean do you need to be to a certain point in the game to play?

3) When will we get more info on the Dawnguard group?

4) Do we have a release date yet>

5) How much?

Okay all questions asked, BTW the video is awesome and I am excited to get my hands on this.

Look great, if we get to choose to be a Vampire, will my character still being a werewolf interfere!!

Consequences for your actions do not exist in Bethesda games. Contradictions only exist in the mind of the role-player.

Oooh, good spotting, check this out:
There is a similar symbol at the lower left of the screen, at where Markarth would be... and it looks http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111112041037/elderscrolls/images/9/9b/MarkarthSide.svg, except in some kind of evil red version! Maybe entire towns get invested with vamps?

I certainly hope they call these guys Volkhair vampires. I don't know how they will accomplish the ice thing. Perhaps they will explain that as just a myth.

It seems Solitude gets the same "red mark" as Markarth.

I've been wishing and wising for Volikhar ever since a certain quest in a certain town killing a certain guy who appears in a certain book... I wish I was in the spoiler section. I get my vampire war! I didn't want to get my hopes up, but then Beth just delivered. Thank you, Bethesda. Now, shut up and take my money.

Hopefully at 20 bucks we're seeing something on the scale of the Shivering Isles. The surrounding wilderness of the vampire fortress lands, the surrounding wilderness of the Dawnguard fortress, and it looked like there is an afterlife zone similar to the Mists of Sovngarde where vampire lords go to feast on the souls of the dead with a very supernatural looking fortress inside that realm as well.

AFAIK the release date is still "Summer 2012," which could be anywhere from June to August. (Or even September, if you don't consider the end of summer to be until after the autumnal equinox.) I'd wait and see on that one. And don't forget it's exclusive to the XBox for 30 days (IIRC) as well, so even if it came out tomorrow PC/PS3 users won't see it until the end of June at best. Boo.

A unified release would be breach of contract at this point, but how foolish of Bethesda to accept those terms. They did not anticipate the popularity of Skyrim on Steam and have made a poor business decision to bow to Microsoft.

It seems Solitude gets the same "red mark" as Markarth.

Word, and they already have the functionality from the CW quests of having "ownership" of the various towns, so perhaps this battle with the vamps will be for each city, across all of skyrim.
