I don't really like sports, but I like the Olympics. I just enjoy the excitement.

The only sport at the Olympics that interests me much is the biathlon so I'll probably check out some videos from that this week. I'll also have an eye on Taiwan's Ma Chih-hung to see how he does (more to see if any interesting politics emerges from the situation) and America's Zach Lund, who was quite unfairly treated at the last Winter Olympics, at least in my mind. Probably Iran's Marjan Kalhor and Ethiopia's Robel Teklemariam as well.

There are a few others individual athletes I'll probably check up on after the Olympics to see how they did, in particular there are some interesting nationalities represented in the various skiing events.

I am sitting here watching the Olympic Torch relay, a CTV exclusive so you have to look for it on CTV. They just had Wayne Gretzky's father do his part of the torch run and supposedly Wayne was there somewhere watching his dad carry the torch for Canada. I have to admitt I was not all that enthused about these games as I live smack dab in the middle of it all, about 1/2 way between Vancouver and Whistler in a small town called Squamish. For about the past month now we have had military planes, and hellicopter doing low passes over Squamish Valley, I assume this is security but the noise is sometimes a bit of a bother. Also my brother took the initiative to volunteer for the Olympics and they trained him to be a ski jump judge, he is pretty pumped about that! ANyway this torch run has me starting to get more interested in these olypmic games, mostly I can't wait for the Hockey!

I'm excited to watch. Can't wait for the hockey.

Do they still have the biathalon? I've always found that odd.

The Biathalon event is being held at the Olympic Whistler Park, this must have been created for the Olympics as I have never heard of it before, I actually like that event because the athlete has to be able to control their breathing to make their shots. A really fun event to watch! :)

I've always loved the Winter Olympics, being a northern boy myself. What makes this one so special to me is that I've been where these atheletes are doing that events...at least, the downhill ones anyway. I used to go to Whistler/Blackcomb every Christmas until I was 14. It's gonna be amazing!!!

As for my favorite event, the sholem...Or however you spell it. Skiis, flags, going in between them.

Biathlon is a sport that is mostly done in the Scandinavian Countries. It evolved from the very real need to find food in the Winter time. However for body control, those athletes have to be Masters. To go from a high Anaerobic Condition from X-Country Skiing to be able to slow the heart rate down enough to target shoot is nothing short of amazing. I mean go run around the block twice as fast as you can and then stop and immediately try to point a laser pointer at something, and keep it pointed. Go ahead, I dare you. It ain't easy. You will see that light bounce with every heartbeat.

I love watching curling. It really is a very strategic game. Luge, skeleton and bobsled are another set of my favourite events. Of course I'll be watching hockey as well. I've always watched the Winter Olympics (summer is boring except for rowing) but I have never supported hosting them. It's going to be real fun paying this off over the next 30 years...

The crowd is just electric for this Torch run, and the cops have either changed the route to eliminate the protestors or they cleared them, I missed that part when I went to refill my coffee cup....

It is a bit odd :)

I find it interesting for the same reason as CCNA and Rahl Windsong: marksmanship already requires considerable concentration and discipline and when combined with cross country skiing this aspect is ratcheted up a few notches. Likewise, the skiing becomes even more physically demanding.

I just wish the summer games had an archery/cross-country running biathlon in it. :)

One thing I really like about this Olympic Torch run is the fact that it started in St Johns Newfoundland and has come completely across the entire country setting a record for distance for Olympic Torch runs. ALso they have included Canadians of all nationalities as I see a Sikh torch bearer with his turban on carrying the torch right now, any citizen of Canada could apply to become a torch bearer, though they did choose some Canadian Celebrities like Walter Gretzky and Nancy Greene a previous Olympic gold medal winner in the womens downhill.

Actually, it started here in Victoria October 30th. So, it has "circled" the country.

Use the - button on http://www.vancouver2010.com/more-2010-information/olympic-torch-relay/olympic-torch-relay-interactive-map/ to see the entire route.
