First time I dont watch Olympics...iam totally disgusted from all these doping stories.

First they did scare off fans of the Tour de France, now winter sports...tiny chance that there is any professional sport without doping nowadays, its just a big cash machine instead of fair competition which svcks.

It's high time that we just have the All Drug Olympics and get it over with. Every world record smashed, and a few casualties to boot.

So what's everyone's pick for the gold medal game for Men's Hockey?

I'm hoping Canada and USA just to see the US lose. :hehe:

The pairs figure skating was great! I'm also excited for the snowboarding. I watched the race, but I'm really excited for the half-pipe. :P My two favorite winter olympic events! Of course, stupid NBC spent 2 hours on the cross-country marathon. :snoring: And for every half hour they show of Olympics, they have a half hour of just blabbing in their studios. I hate NBC, I hope they don't win the bid for coverage next winter olympics.

I don't understand the figure skating event. It's not really a sport at all. It's more like something you'd pay to watch like an opera or a play. Not to mention it is incredibly, insanely boring. (Except when they fall on their ass)

Which they apparently train to do, that falling on their asses. Even the top tier skaters in this sport routinely fall. I think it's kind of dorky and don't really watch it, or if I do, I have to mute it because of the hilarious annoyance of Scott Hamilton and the woman who also does the commentary with him. Every time someone lands a jump, his voice is all squeaky and tense "ooooh, he really held on for that landing", even though they all look the same.

I like the short track skating - it's exciting and fast. Snowboarding is good, I like the moguls skiing etc.

I think that if you take it as "competitive art" rather than a straight-up sport, its presence in the Olympics becomes a little more sensible. After all, the Summer Olympics has even sillier sports such as synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. But it has become more of a show of athleticism than an art, and the disgraceful conduct of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan at Lillehammer did nothing to redeem it. In my eyes, figure skating properly understood ended with Katarina Witt's retirement.

The one thing I don't like about Figure Skating is that unless you have been doing it for years and years you basically have no chance of winning even if you outskate everyone else there. It seems like a lot of "artistic points" don't come your way until you have lost for a few years and then once the "great ones" retire you get your chance.

USA! USA! USA! USA!

I can't wait for more speed skating. :D That stuff is just soooo intense!! Also, can't wait for more downhill, I love seeing people go flying at 75 mph down a mountain on skis. :D

I just love the Olympics!!!! Whooo!!! Oh and even though I don't find Figure Skating too fun to watch, It was good to see that couple from China win their first Gold. Apparently they deserved it or something. :P

Every time someone lands a jump, his voice is all squeaky and tense "ooooh, he really held on for that landing", even though they all look the same.

The Chinese pair that won the medal performed most wonderfully in the shorts - no falls, no slip ups. They made it looks easy. And they were 31 and 36 years old! And they got gold! Usually, 18 is over-the-hill in figure skating. :P I hated the mime costumes the German pair wore in the shorts. I was like "50 point deduction for mime/clown costumes!" I really liked the swan costumes on the Russian pair during the shorts. Then there was the pair that hated each other - the commentators mentioned that they needed a sports psychologist. You could totally see it in the way they skated - just going through the motions, no joy at all in it. I liked the music and costumes of the Ukraine (?) couple during the shorts - electric blue wetsuit-looking jumpsuits to new-age-ish music. B)

But music with screeching violins, it's like nails on a chalk-board to my ears. >.<

It is disappointing when they fall down, especially with a sort of dull regularity. But, I just try to look past that and enjoy the skill and grace. I can barely keep upright on ice skates, so I'm impressed with them zooming this way and that, going on one foot, twirling and jumping and spinning.
