OWB....Cheesy?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 11:44 am

Hey, by the looks of the pictures we've gotten do you think the environment of OWB is kind of cheesy? I mean, we are all looking forward to a really futuristic facility with a lot of new areas. But take a look at this screenshot.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/47857688@N08/5859642405/in/photostream/

I don't know, to me that specific area looks like the sewers with some luminescent wiring. It's only natural that it would continue throughout the walkways. From the outside, the pictures we got and the videos we've seen makes the above ground environment look like the Emergency Service Railyard, mixed with Black Mountain. We haven't gotten many pictures from the inside, so I can't really judge.

Anyway, to me OWB just might be the more metropolis-like wasteland environments with luminescent lights and wires. But I can't really judge by the lack of information we've received.

What do you think? Do you think the environment will be cheesy? What do you think it would look like? What should it look like?

I will forgive all if the special VATS attack for that axe features the voice of the Demoman.

It looks far too "off" for me.
Just cause some place is high tech does not mean that even the [censored] cables should look "high tech" or "futuristic".
That neon lighting looks annoying as hell, and I can't figure out why it was done when the facility was built anyway.
"Okay, so we're ready to construct this secret science base now?"
"Hmm, yeah... But it needs to look flashy! I want more neon all over it!"
"Won't that cause nausea to the scientists that have to look at it all day long?"
"Ah screw that, it needs to look flashy and impressive!"

Seriously?
Why the hell is there blue neon crap all over the place?
For what reason`?
To make it look futuristic?
Why?
Why did the people who constructed the place or whoever was in charge of the construction feel that it was necessary to put blue [censored] all over?

Makes no sense.
And it looks horrible.
It seriously looks so annoying that I'm fairly sure I'll change my tv settings to black and white when playing this DLC.

The environment seems ok to me. The whole 'having your brain taken' thing does seem kind of silly though.

Perhaps... or the Neon Blue lighting is a necessary power supply for the base.

I can see why they would put all the neon, but it's strange. If you've seen any "futuristic" movies, everything is luminescent, or chrome. In the movie "I, Robot" the headquarter building is chrome, white, and neon. In the movie "Screamers" the space ship is neon and metallic. It's a common misconception that future = lights. Lights = electricity. Electricity = SCIENCE!

I would have preferred to see a clean cut facility. The area just looks dirty, and neon. Giving it a really cheesy environment. I would have preferred a metallic and white environment, with weird beeping sounds all around us, and at intervals a big neon door with flashy buttons to type a password into. Instead we got the DC metro with blue and green lights.

This is what a late release does. It causes random rages about absolutely nothing.

I...y'know what? I agree. I actually really agree. Hell, they've even got some halfway decent "clean" textures more or less on hand, and I'm sure OWB could've put them to better use than Mothership Zeta did.

It's not going to kill my buzz in any substantial way, but the more I think about it, the more I agree that this was a missed opportunity.

So the floor is leaking power?
And the rest of the cables on the wall don't luminate, why does the blue cables do?

Even if it's the power supply I don't see why it should be advertised that "This right here, this cable, it supplies this forcefield with power."

Still makes no sense to me.
Even if they provide the power for the base I don't see why it needs to be advertised.
I mean, a force field is there to prevent people from going in right?
Having a cable emit the same blue glow right next to it is an idiot move IMO.
What if some opposing force entered the base?
"Damnit, a forcefield!"
"Sir, this cable has the same glow as the forcefield, should we try to cut it?"
"Hm, try it.
*cuts cable*
*Forcefield disappears*
"Heh, thank the Master for whoever designed this base."

Dalek, I agree, it stands out far too much.

Hm. Not to put too fine a point on it, but http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1203905-dirty-liarsnow-what/

OT: A small but regrettable detail I just thought of--I play a stealth character. The interior shots that we've seen of OWB are full of lights. Guh.

Wouldn't surprise me if the CEO of this place has a room of neon stuff, a neon desk, a neon pencil, hell, he even got a neon lighswitch that goes to a neon lamp with a neon lightbulb in it... And the cable is neon too.

I'd like to think that the tubes on the walls are coolant for a reactor of some sorts.

I'd also like to think, in my far-flung imagination, that the lights on the floor flash in patterns that tell the lobotomites what to do, silently and instantly. From that would stem pattern control terminals to make them hostile or non, puzzles to make them accomplish certain tasks, ect.

Maybe. But late release is not the sole reason for inane rages. All you have to do is look across these boards and you will find (copious) evidence of that.

Fact is, people around here don't need a reason to rage - most are just waiting for any little thing they can jump on and use as an excuse to throw another tantrum.

Kind of sad, actually.

edit: oh, I should probably comment on the op. It certainly looks different, and that will probably help give the impression that the Courier is in a place constructed by bizarre minds from before the war.
