Patch 1.4 for PC [merged similar topics]

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 2:41 am

Well I cannot even play without crashing. What about that beta pc update thing. If the patch fix my problem in beta form id much rather have that now than wait another 2 weeks till the end of the month. 2 months just to be able to play a game is just not right in my eyes

I'd prefer they fixed everything from crashes and busted questlines down to the typos and floating flora, as otherwise 70% of everyone (the console players) don't get to benefit.

Sure, it may put me out of work, but it's the right thing to do.

Nah will just minimise it  - been keeping my own list of floaters and open statics. So far none that haven't been reported by others. Still have nightmares about the shivering isles and fixing those floaters - skyrim is a vast improvement over that. There are still some howlers though, bit upsetting really flora gets levitation and the player doesn't

Nice, a decent 1.4 patch at last.

I am looking forward for this fix: "Memory optimizations related to scripting"

This could fix the low fps in towns ? Also this and the other performance fix combined with SkyBoost r3 + Triple Buffering = solid 60fps in Skyrim !!! :D

So they want to release it this month ?

I really need the Creation Kit to disable that STUPID, NASTY, CONSOLE TYPE, etc. when the light fades in slowmotion when i move the mouse quick from a lighted area to a darker area (that stupid "dynamic contrast").

Do you have your Steam properties set to "Automatically update this game"?

Which version are you running? (visible in lower left corner when you hit ESC)

In my case I haven't experienced any CTD at all after Patch 1.2 and the Steam update for LAA.

Ive played a good 360 hours with no problems,no crashes hardly anything. Then my save got above 19mb and now the game is unplayable.

So I can see how you've had no problems, wait till your save file reaches a certain size and you'll start crashing with the rest of us.

Master Criminal achievement/trophy unlocks properly in French, German, Spanish and Italian
Fixed issue where traps in Shalidor’s Maze would not work properly in French, German, Spanish and Italian versions
Bethesda, why these bugs are not fixed in the Russian and Polish versions of the game? Why has not fixed the display name of the character on horses and summoned creatures in the Russian version of the game?

Singe core processors don't meet the system requirements. I expect they'll concentrate on continueing support for people who they said could play the game before spending time specifically on people they said couldn't. But it might be that improvements for supported systems have some benefit for unsupported systems.

Bethesda can't do miracles.

If they make it run like as Fallout 3 or Oblivion, I will be happy.

I meant performance wise. F3 on single sore processors runs fine; Skyrim -> no,no.
I also think that compiler should be better written.

**Improved compiler optimization settings (PC)
Does this mean that changes from mods like TESVAL and SkyBoost will now be incorporated?

*Yes.

But, Skyboost has only support for SSE2 and I'm playing on SSE processor. :(

Wait, what? Every Intel CPU since the first Pentium 4 and every AMD CPU since the Athlon 64 has supported SSE2. Besides, my understanding is that Skyrim already makes use of SSE2, just not in certain specific areas where SSE2 could be of benefit.

As a side note, SSE instructions are enabled seperately from compiler optimizations. They are not controlled by the same flags.

I've played two characters for 150 - 200 hours each. The save files are 12 - 15mb. Not sure if this is relevant but the laptop I'm using has an SSD.

I have Athlon xp 2800. It is SSE and Skyrim runs well except for crashes and fps drop now and then.

So it is. Apparently I was wrong about Skyrim's use of SSE2. My second point stands, though, provided that all they've done is turned on optimization flags you should be ok.

Possibly a dumb question, but how do I opt-in for the beta-patch?
Is it the same as the opt-in for the beta Steam client?

From reading the blog update, it seems likley that you will be given the choice to opt-in to the beta by agreeing to download the update, as the beta will be the only one available. The blog also assured that it would be possible to "revert" or opt-out of the beta should one choose. This would likely have to be handled in Steam. In the Bethesda blog, Gstaff stated that there will be a special beta-only forum on the gamesas forums that will be used to track issues reported by users. He also said details are still being worked out, so I wouldn't expect it to be "live" until the update is ready. It wasn't 100% clear from the blog update whether the beta opt-in would be implemented for 1.4 or for future updates. Perhaps Gstaff can elaborate on this...

It has already been mentioned in Gstaff's post regarding patch 1.4:
Our current update plan for the PC is to first release our updates as “beta” versions through Steam. This is something you’ll be able to opt into through Steam and back-out of if needed. This is an extra safety check for everyone going forward and should expedite and improve our updating process for our PC users. We’ll have more info soon on how this will work.

So you'll just have to wait and see

My guess is that the beta patches are going to be mostly balance changes, so those could easily be added/removed by Steam by activating/deactivating a new esm or esp file, just like any other mod.
