It seems a mite pointless to expect people who don't like reading to read about why they should read.

Because i've seen people who read the forum post about how they just take books inagme without reading them... I'm merely just stating what a great find i had, just because i read the book..

The in-game books? Yeah some of them are really good.

The Mirror, Bone, and Silence are a few of my favorites.

I love reading the books. That's where a lot of the lore is. It adds so much more to the game.

The directly gameplay-related books/notes are normally pretty obvious, but I think if you don't read the books in the game you're missing out on a lot of what makes the world so expansive. Plus a lot of them are just well written short stories in their own right. They can be time-consuming if you just find a random book on the way to get a quest finished, but it's well worth keeping them, stashing them and putting aside a good hour to sit and read the stories.

I don't read em. I collect em till I have too many fill the bookshelf and sit by the fire reading em while I roll up a fat cigarette irl. Damn though, this might change my mind about that. Was it just a journal or a book with a title?

My faves are all the creation myths and stuff like that. I enjoy how its loosely based off real metaphysics

You could turn the books into videos and I would not watch them. They are terribly boring and I hate them.

I do read the journals, though, which might be the books you are referring to. They are useful, because they tell you about the people and makes them a good read.

The "books" aren't "real books"- we speak of ten-fifteen pages like a 7 yrs old kid diary -so even the lazy ones can read them
i know, it's difficult for someone "to read a book" in 2012 :bunny: but without the "books" you loose 90% of "game's immersion" tu sabe

^this. It's one of the thing's I do when my husband is home and playing his game's, as he often asks me to help him with something. I hate haveing to pause during a fight or while doing something sneaky. ( think AC:brotherhood, mini-games, putting the paintings in order etc. that kinda thing)

Their are a couple of Journal's that lead to "hidden treasure", A couple of book's that lead/hint at quests.

The journals are really cool. Some tell you about pieces of a quest that do not get a quest marker and you would not find these optional parts without these. One can find more than extra treasures by reading them.

Try pick pocketing NPCs. A few carry journals with them!

If you don't read books then you know nothing of the game's world ... It's a bad way to play a TES game ; half of the charm of these games resides in what is said in the books.

I do read real books. It is then not laziness that lets some read every trash.

Spoiler
I once pick-pocketed a journal out of an NPC and it triggered a quest! That was awesome.

I looove books (and real books, too). I pick up everything I can, read it and store in a shelf later, unless it's something I want to read again, on the road.
And yes, they can be pretty useful. Journals give you game info and a lot of books give you lore info, so I say, yay for reading! :read:

You really expect to find Dante's Divine Comedy in a Tes action/"Rpg" ? this is a game, and the "Mini-books" that you've described as "trash" are essentials to understand the "lore" and some game events/dynamics.

So yes,for me is simple*preference* not reading a ten-fifteen pages "book" in a game (in particular in the light of my previous statement) but if you don't want no ones forces you to read them of course (or to read only those of your interest)

After all this is a Tes game where "you can do all what you want"...remember what Todd have said. :bunny:

No, which is one of the reasons why I do not read them and perhaps it is also the reason why some read everything in hope of finding a good read.

Anyhow, why start a game, then run around in a 3D world to read a virtual book? I see no sense in it when it has real books and really good ones, too. Just turn off the game for a while. The forum holds more reading treasures, too, than the game.

It`s true that a lot of people don`t like reading.

But read. You find out things and it`s good for you.

Your English will even improve.

It's not far from the truth to say that you're missing 75% of the game if you don't read the books. They are all very short anyway, some of them are no longer than pamphlets. But they give you a lot of insight into the world that you simply can't get anywhere else.

Besides, some of the books are really entertaining. The Real Barenziah, The Argonian Account, and A Dance in Fire are all great fun. The Wolf Queen is good too, but I wouldn't recommend anyone read that until they have gained a bit of appreciation for the history of Tamriel - that book throws a lot of random yet important names around and its easy to get lost if you haven't been paying too much attention.
